Having some great luck tonight, had about 5 free kicks paid against me for holding the ball after i have just broken a tackle and am metres in the clear. So freaking annoying.

So my midfield will be Harvey, Swallow and Wells....Sounds pretty lethal.

Here's a tip for you mate, get rid of Grima (if you haven't already) and use Firrito as your CHB with Thompson (I think...he's a key back right?) as FB. Then use Warren as a HB flanker with McMahon, and Urquhart as a back pocket with Pratt. Rawlings to start on the bench. Perfect blend of height and pace I find, Firrito does a very good job playing tall most of the time, while Rawlings comes in handy being auto-interchanged to the midfield and even up forward sometimes where he gets me quite a few goals/assists. Get Harper into the side too :thumbsu:

Whats the go with banning custom teams?

Have decided to start playing the custom teams as a way to improve on my own skills playing as a standard team, but it's annoying to constantly lose to chumps by 1-2 goals when you know you'd kill them in an even contest.
 
I thought i might try out my 0.5 star South Fremantle team online. I had high confidence considering i usually do really good online, but still i was expecting to get flogged.

My first game was against Fishmister54 or something like that. He chose the default adelaide side (he was probably surprised when he saw i chose a half a star team). I got off to a good start and at qtr time i was up 13 - 2. Then in the second quarter i kicked 3 goals to 2 and was up 30 - 14 at half time. I was expecting him to come back because my players were getting tired, they obviously dont have the fitness of AFL players, but i kicked the first 3 goals of the 3rd qtr then he quit. I won 50-14.

My second game was against wizzie876, and he chose his 5 star custom side Marby Parkers and i was expecting to get flogged. Not to my surprise he got the first goal, but with some great skill and precise kicking and handballing i kicked the next 4 goals to be up 24-6 with a few minutes to go in the first term and he quit.

From my first few games with South Freo, I have learned and proved that 5 star custom sides are not impossible to beat and that it doesn't matter what team you use, you can still beat most teams, all I did was used my skills effectively and chose the right tactics to win the game. My highest rated player was Ryan Cook with a rating of 72.

It's worthwhile playing as standard teams, mainly to avoid falling into the habit that the vast majority of custom team users seem to have, of simply bombing the ball long at every opportunity and relying on superior stats to win the contests each time. Obviously said strategy would be fairly useless without a super team, which will leave them in a poor position when (if?) the custom team issue is solved.

In saying that, I've been doing something lately that lets me have a level playing field, and lets super team users know that they're flogs.
Created my own super team, called 'Custom Isformongs'. If I come up against anyone with the FF symbol under their name, I switch from the default Bulldogs straight to it and leave it up to them as to whether or not they want to play as their edited team against another super team. Has led to people switching to normal teams a couple of times now :D


Also started getting some lovely messages after recent games. One last night where I was toying with the guy for most of the match before kicking away at the end, had him inform me afterwards that I got lucky and only won due to 'poor reception'.

And just now, played a guy called Quinny who had something like 500-600k xp. Again, got ahead early and then played around for most of the match, leaving the margin at a few goals. Then in the last quarter I need to leave the PS3 for a few minutes, so of course come back and am 2 goals down with not enough time left, and lose. Surely Mr Quinny is above gloating over a win against an absent opponent?... Nope! I get told to 'Suck it!' right after our game finishes. Well played Quinny.
 
Hey Vapours, people in glass houses shouldnt throw stones. Who has 33 forfeits themselves?? Haha you gutless wonder. You also don't play anybody that you know is better than you. Your a fake!

I've played twice since the patch for online, both games were Collingwood so I chose Geelong for both. I lost the first game, fair and square. In the second game, I got out to a 40 point lead, as when they chose the Pies I chose the Cats, they were unbelievable. Came to the ruck, they didn't go up just roved it, I kicked the first 5 goals. They never marked or spoiled just stood there. This happened for two quarters, and in third and fourth the flood gates opened I was already 45 points up, in no area to lose and they started chipping it back, before I knew it they were within 20 points, I kicked two majors to put the result beyond doubt. After the game I get a message: "You got Lucky, I wasn't trying. Verse me again and I will prove that." I invited him to a private game, he gets in and picks his 5 star custom team. Backed out. aha.

I complained about custom teams in the game and I've never used a custom team, so I'd say I'm being true to my word in that regard.

In regards to forfeits, yes I've been forced to quit a few times due to external factors that are more important than playing a ps3 and I've also had a handful of disconnections out of my control, and I also quit when theres 2v1 as I consider it cheating. My reliability rating is 90 odd % which is as good as most people online. Hats off to you if you have a 100% reliability rating.

And I'm always playing people better than me, this thread is littered with me commending and playing against illnino & HBK who are some of the toughest players I've come up against.

I'm assuming you're that dude who got their panties in a twist because I refused to play your super duper team?

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasnt the patch supposed to remove people being able to tackle the player after the mark it that causes it to be called play on. Took a mark in a game in defence and was trying to steady as i was up by a point and then i was tackled twice and they scored a free and goaled. Absolute crap that I thought was meant to be fixed. :/

Edit: played my first actual custom side, must say have ruined online play. Also noticed that when you play them your players tend to overrun the ball far more often and the number of times the ball literally floated straight through my players hands and then there face and into the opponents hands who was a few metres behind was beyond a joke.

^This can't agree more. I can't count the amount of times this has cost me a game online. It happens at least 7 times each quarter, I'm in front by a metre and i hold the Y button to home in and it goes past me and my opponent kicks an easy goal with no pressure. And also when your in perfect position to spoil and it doesn't work or your opponent marks it anyway.
 
I'm glad it's not just me. It really kills a close battle when something like that happens. I had a man standing under the ball and he just stood still and did nothing despite me pressing Y. In the forward line you can ignore it to a degree but when its in defense or when its a close game it's so frustrating. Work hard to get the ball forward and get front position only for the ball to magically go through your player and into your opponents hands.
I also hate how when it's an even race to the ball and you see your player indicator saying you have the ball and you then proceed to change direction and then the ball is in your oppenents hands. It's only a split second thing but if you've reacted then the ball is 5 metres away in an instant.
 
Yes that happens to me all the time i'm in front the power bar comes up for a second and you go to clear it and run away from opponent and then magically he has it and gets an easy goal. I actually don't think it's happened in my foward half though. I'm pretty sure it's only happened in the defensive half.

This is a huge oversight. Player without ball, red outline. Player with ball, red outline white triangle. Opponent, white triangle. Makes it impossible to know who's got the ball in close. Would have been so easy to fix by just changing the colour of the opponent triangle, or just having the red triangle fill in with red instead of white. It can be so frustrating.

This, by 1 ****ing million. And I am absolutely sick and ****ing tired of it.

I am sick of getting robbed wins when I am by far the better player.

I am sick of never being able to get a spoil regardless of timing, positioning, etc.

I am sick of having to play with and against the worst gameplans in the history of mankind.

The custom teams absolutely 100% ruin this game and I knew it would. The only reason people were bitching about custom teams was so they could do this exact shit.

Not only does it unbalance the game and gameplay. But it turns what is a very tactically deep game into AFL 2007 form of 'get ball, kick long, mark, goal' and it's absolutely goddamn ridiculous.

I'm not going to finish this with '/rant', because it's beyond that now. It's beyond ranting, it's beyond whinging. I'm sick of bullshit custom sides and every moronic ******* who thinks they have to use it to win or are awesome because of it.

(All of this is related to custom teams ONLY)
