Re: Afl Macakay

I tend to agree with yhe last poster, every Premiership in at least the past decade has been won by a club with a positive and roactive approach to junior development, not just relied on imported players for their success.:footy::thumbsu::)

Re: Afl Macakay

Congrat's, your one of the footy dinosaurs that keeps the Mackay league just the way it is!! We can only do things certain ways cause thats the way we have always done it!! We can all see how successful Moranbah and Bakers have been on the field in recent years and of cause there're future is so bright you want to force Andergrove to do it that way aswell?? No disrespect to either club but they have no junoirs so for the league to treat Andergrove the same as either of those clubs is not looking at the big picture!! i'm told the only way Andergrove would get to come home on a permanent basis was when they had both reserve and senior teams, how many years would that take??? Wake up to yourself and look around because your kind are nearly extinct!!! The plans for progress are under way!!!

So for starters where are you guys going to get the senior players to field 1 side from. Put you whole under 18 team in from last year? Im sure you guys would be as successful as mornabah / bakers creek in recent years but that would be ok for you cause you guys would be a bunch of kids i guess. Or would you poach players from the other clubs that are struggling enough to get a side together? Do you guys have a home ground and if so are your facilites up to standard?

Im not against AFL Mackay growing but bringing another team into the comp to the detriment of the other clubs seems stupid IMO.

why not a restructure, disband the reserve comp and this would free up players to play for andergrove and maybe even another team in mackay. All clubs struggle at times during the year with many players working in the coal mines doing shift work. Whitsunday could field 2 senior sides.

Teams could be:
North Mackay
Eastern Swans
City Hawks
bakers Creek Andergrove
Pioneer Valley side?
Mornabah
Whitsunday 1
Whitsunday 2

By the way mackays kangaroo when mornabah re-entered afl mackay they wanted to get established in the reserve comp first before going up to the senior comp. So perhaps the league want to try something different this time.

How many local players would of come through the ranks at whitsunday, north mackay and swans over the last 6 years John?

Re: Afl Macakay

screw andergrove, they r only thinking about themselves, they wud rather cum staight inoto seniors and not think about other clubs, i have heard many many rumours from players from al different clubs saying if andergrove were to cum in they were going to leave their club and go 2 andergrove. and most clubs wud struggle with out those players and andergrove dont care bout that as they want those players, also the juniours they wanted to use to fill a senior side are half league players who play afl for fun and i seen them struggle to beat bakers creek reserves last yr. if they can only just beat bakers reserves imagine the damage sum1 like whitsundays could do. they r no where near ready to play a senior side and need to wake up. yes mayb the entry to reserves was rogh on going to moranbah but hey moranbah had to play at bakers wen they come into the league. they need to tuffin up and go with wat the league has offered instead of winging and tryin to find the easy way in cause there is no easy way. i say and i kno every1 else wud say they same, RESERVES OR NOTHING

Looks pretty good , maybe the 2nd Whitsunday side could be based in Proserpine, add andergrove a side from the northern beaches, one a Sarina team and a team around Walkerston/Marian/Marini which is probably the Pioneers team you mentioned.
Is Bowen bigger enough to ever get a team up and running?

Airlie to Moroonbah is a long enough trip without adding the extra hour on for a Bowen team. Silly.

Re: Afl Macakay

Word amoungst the footy circles is Moranbah gun onballer, Tim Bone , as relocated into town and is going to Mackay Hawks.
Big loss for the bulldogs, if true, and a great get for the Hawks, also heard Nth Saints have signed a big forward.

Anyone else aware of any movements around the League?

Re: Afl Macakay

Doe's any one know what teams are entering in the pre-season carnival up at Airlie march 20.

Had it confirmed tonight at training that Rocky Brothers are heading back up for a 2nd successive appearance. Can hardly wait for it as we cannot organise anything like that in our region.

Re: Afl Macakay

From what i have been told there will be 10 teams competing in the pre-season carnival at airlie beach in 2 weeks time. 6 AFL mackay sides, 3 from townsville (Curra Swans, Bulldogs and hremit park) and 1 from Rocky (Brothers). Should be a good weekend of footy and good hit out for all teams involved. All sides play at least 2 games ( 2 x 20minutes halfs i think).

From what I read winning and winning with a decent margin is also a key with 2 pools of 5 but only 2 games per side with the top 2 advancing to semis.

POOL A
Whitsunday
North Mackay
Bakers Creek
Thuringowra
Curra Swans (From what I read they played North Mackay in Townsville a couple of weeks ago)

POOL B
Eastern Swans
Moranbah
Mackay City
Hermit Park
Brothers (We're playing E.S and Moranbah)

Yeah your right cos if more than two teams win 2 games from a pool then it will go on winning margins.

You've got a good draw, should be a chance to go thru to semi's.

Also if you've got a copy of the draw are you able to post it up.

Re: AFL Mackay - 2010 Season

Sea Eagles preparation for the up and coming season has hit a few hurdles thus far.
Firstly we have only been allowed onto our oval in the last couple of weeks. We had been training on the front beach and had a couple of runs on the rugby field.
Gav was away for the last 5 weeks then on his return (Tuesday night) has had to quit as coach due to work commitments.
Not the ideal way to work into the season, bring on the carnival and then round 1!

Definately doesn't sound like the ideal preparation especially so close to the season starting, i cant speak for other clubs in Mackay, but ground availablility at Rogers oval due to the weather hasn't been ideal either.
The Swans oval looks like a cow paddock and alternative vernue's haven't been much better plus there's limited indoor options which is a bummer too.

Who looks to be Gav's replacement with such short notice, Catter or yourself?
