Can someone please explain to me why, with an AFL membership you have to enter through Gate 6 at the MCG no matter what game?

I've been a Richmond member for years and this year I decided to get an AFL membership with Richmond club support. With my 17 game membership, I could go through and general public entrance.

But now with the AFL membership, even when it's a Richmond home game, I have to enter through Gate 6 and then walk on the inside and around. Now, if I'm by myself that's no problem. But, if I'm with others who aren't AFL members and we want to sit in the Ponsford Stand (for example) it becomes a bit of a hassle.

Not happy.

turned your back on your club, went with a competing offer, saw it was better, sold your club up the creek ... rejoin your club, be happy:)

Don't comment if you have no idea about AFL membership. It is a suplemental membership as part of the funds go directly to your club, not a competing one.

To the OP, if it is your home game (or reciprocal rights away game) you can enter any gate at the MCG with your AFL membership. If your mates are all members of Richmond as well, they can get an upgrade to sit in the AFL members reserve for home games for around $10. It saves buying a reserved seat if you prefer not to sit on level 4 (depending on how full the AFL reserve is).

AFL memberships are shit.

I bought one this year for the first time, thinking that I'd go to a few of the bigger games on a whim (especially friday night games) throughout the year if I felt like it. Well that was stupid, most games are sold out before you even think about buying a ticket (especially at etihad) and the blockbuster games are always reserve tickets only. How am I supposed to go on a whim if I didnt reserve a seat. Then there's the booking fees. Its a waste of money, I dont recommend it to ANYONE.

Oh yeah and you dont get to sit with other supporters from your club, its just a big mix unless its a bigger club like collingwood in which case I'm outnumbered 10 to 1 which makes the game REALLY REALLY enjoyable.

Get a reserved seat membership with your club, much better value.

HAHAHA you have no idea, no idea at all

$450 gets me 40 games, including all my clubs games, access to all pre season, finals tickets for like $15 up until the GF then its like $90. Most club memberships cost a heap more, and a heap more for finals tickets, and only melbourne games of your club, and mot importantly, you're not guaranteed of anything.

The wait for full membership is totally worth it.

Don't renew yours, go back to a footscray membership and enjoy never getting to see a GF.

Its a claytons membership, the membership you have when you dont want to support your club, discount heaven.

Real fans join their clubs, not the AFL, not the Melbourne Cricket Club ...

An honest fan, he doesnt want to support his club financially & is honest enough to admit it.

AFL club gets back a standard membership return which is way less than half the membership, a good premium club membership sees the club get all the money.

An AFL Full Membership is easily the best membership you can buy for football. It allows you to get tickets to every game, and finals, and gives you preference for finals tickets with your club.

How you would settle for anything else is beyond me. And how you can claim it is "not supporting your real club" is also beyond me. Do you think Collingwood don't make money from my AFL membership?

You choose an option that puts less money to the Pies ... you've made a decision to reject membership of Collingwood, you've joined the AFL not Collingwood & your decision costs Collingwood money.

The allocation of Grand Final tickets to AFL members ahead of club members is a disgrace ... AFL members are 2nd rate fans compared to the club faithful & AFL membership should be disbanded as a blight on AFL footy.
CLUB MEMBERSHIP NOT AFL MEMBERSHIP
.. . as for those who join a cricket club to go the footy ...

You try dealing with the Essendon Client Services department without becoming pissed off and bitter. And it's getting worse next year, they're FORCING Silver Members to pay for a Premium reserved seat in addition to their membership. So this year I downgraded my membership from a Silver 19 Game to a Bronze 11 game, and took up AFL Membership.

I'll support my club, but as long as they treat members that poorly they can get stuffed if they think I'll pump that much money in.

Prove that to me and I will freely admit I am wrong. AFL members are not 2nd rate fans at all. I can't believe you honestly have assumed an elitest status due to possessing an obviously inferior membership scheme. I can bet you I have been to the football more than you have. Comfortably. What exactly then, makes an AFL member second rate?

AFL membership is good value but a few things piss me off.

For example, for "cross over" games, why the HELL am I not allowed to cross over on the top deck of the MCG?

Twice this season I have walked up the stairs only to be told you cant cross over at the top... walked all the way to the bottom level, crossed over, walked all the way back and gave a big F U what was the point of that to the little man at the gate.

Maybe 3rd or 4th rate then.:thumbsd:

You don't really understand how an AFL membership works, do you?

When are games sold out? Only game that sells out the AFL reserve is Anzac Day during the home and away season. I have never had an issue walking up on the day and gaining entry whether it be the MCG or Etihad.

Works well for us interstaters. West Coast will get a good return from an AFL Membership from me when I join next year - much better than they get from a Interstate Memebership as they are all away games, plus I get to see a shit load of other games.

Not very bright, aren't you?

You select Club Support option and your club is given a portion of your membership cost. I pay $450, i don't know how much goes across but I dare say its more than $160 which is a basic 11 game club member

I'm included in the membership numbers, they get money from me, and mostof all, I GET A HEAP OF BENEFITS

I will not pay more than I have to, for less, for the sake of making a "donation" to my club. Call it what you will, but I will look after #1 every time, while you sit around and blow money pointlessly so you can think you're elite.

I get more benefits than a Collingwood legends member does, and they pay $800 a year.

My club gets money from club support, you idiot.

You chose to short change your club, do you only support them on field for 3 quarters not 4, or are you a 90% man?

Your choice is not 100 cents in the dollar unlike club members.

Reckon I do understand, I see cheapskates who reject club membership & need to salve their freeloading conscience.

Join the club you follow, NO & need to defend it, YES !!!

That's a ****ing disgrace. Some people prefer to stand.

LOL @ the lack of knowledge about AFL memberships with club support. It's like getting a club membership + more games.

FFS don't comment if you don't know anything about it.
