Fine, if both teams had their full 22 Essendon would have only lost by 7 goals.

Happy? Can you all go away now?

I agree whole-heartedly with what my fellow Essendon supporter posted, pretty much because I said the same thing about 10mins before. Can I ask how me saying this was any different?

I agree that you said the same thing, I was really re-iterating what you were saying. Sometimes you just need it said in a different way.

And talking of missing players:
Fletcher, Hurley, Hooker, Hibberd, Pears, Hocking, Lonergan, Dempsey, Winderlich, Nathan Lovertt Murray, Welsh and Gumbleton.

Brown, Shaw, Wellingham, Thomas, Didak, Dick, Dawes, Toovey and Hunter. All but Hunter would be in our best 22 when fit. All teams have injuries. Stop making excuses. A successful football team is not about the top 22 its about the top 34 players. Having said that 2 injuries in the first quarter was very unlucky.

No one but one of your brethren had the audacity to suggest we should be worried about facing you with a full list. We've dominated your mob for years, with or without full list.

So a few years ago when Zaharakis kicked that goal on Anzac day was a domination was it? Yes as I have already stated, your mob are better than everyone, except Geelong, by a fair margin.

No, I'm not, we have close to ten goalkickers just about every game.

So you weren't surprised you had a player in his 6th game kick 5 goals, and Krakour kick 4?

What is this I don't even.....
I'll repeat, the general consensus of your fellow supporters was one of Cloke completely dominating the game and that didn't happen. This is a positive for us not for you.

Never said it wasn't, I was just giving a reason why you had small forwards who dominated.

Yeah... well spotted, thats what happened in the 31 out of the last 33 games we've featured in.
No need to be arrogant, I was actually complimenting your team.

The only thing that makes them as important is your shallow depth.

It's a relative thing. Your list is streets ahead of all but 1 other team. Most other teams lists have similar depths, and when 9 of your top 22 are missing it hurts.

Thanks, we will.
And you enjoy hoping it won't last long.
Again with the arrogance. Why are you being a prick? It's a discussion FFS!

Whats to be surprised about? Our small forwards bob up and kick plenty of goals every game. Both Blair and Sidebottom have done it this year, it's a great strength of our forward line that someone will kick the goals if our other forwards are held.

Even you would have to agree that any new player coming in to such a dominant team will only help them perform well, especially if they play forward.

Fasolo 18 touches at 100% effeciency 5 goals 3 tackles. Collingwood may have gotten him the ball but what he did with it was exceptional by anyone's standards. Did you see his first goal it was pure talent.

We've beaten you on 8 of the last 10 occasions, thats not only a domination, thats ownership.

Why would I be surprised with our first pick in the draft being highly taleneted given Hine's track record and why would I be surprised with someone doing what they were recruited for and only beating his previous best effort by one goal

Never said it wasn't, I was just giving a reason why you had small forwards who dominated.
And I'm simply bewildered by your reasoning, big men being well held=/=small forwards dominating.

No need to be arrogant, I was actually complimenting your team.
And I simply pointed out you aren't the only team that has faced our midfield onslaught.

No one is arguing your outs hurt you but when compared to our outs they aren't much chop apart from Hurley and maybe Hocking (being generous)

Again with the arrogance. Why are you being a prick? It's a discussion FFS!
Thats me being a prick?
Thought I was quite restrained in my responses, maybe I'm just not a fan of backhanded compliments and mundane phrases like "enjoy it while it lasts"

It's amazing what this thread has turned into, I much preferred post ANZAC Day. Both sets of supporters were glowing of the opposition after the great Rd 5 encounter and could not have been more supporting of each team's position.

Are you referring to the snap over the shoulder in the second? Yeah that was "special". I was right in that pocket. Thought he got a high tackle anyway. He had a dream game, couldn't do a thing wrong.

But apparently your small forwards do this every week. Plus with CLoke dominating. Why did Essendon even bother showing up?

Don't know why there needs to be so many hypotheticals and chest puffing from some Don fans, it's interrupting a thread where the main focus is Pies fans giving their perspective post-match.

Just on next week, I don't think we can continue selecting Keefe as a forward. This has been a good experience for him but he needs to go back to the VFL and complete his apprenticeship as a key back.

I would also like to see Caff to be given a go deeper forward, than the mid, half-back he has been played in. One more week before we get our other gorilla back.

We have good players. Thats kind of part and parcel of being the best side in the league. I really don't understand where you're going with this. Yeah Cloke is good, we have other good players too, thats why we win a lot and Essendon don't.

Ryder toweled Cloke. No doubt about it. It was Essendon's big winner for the day. They were unlucky with injuries too. They looked spent in the last quarter.

Pies were sloppy in the first half. The press was too easy to break. The back line looked a little lost without Shaw and Toovey. Swan played like he had the flu. He couldn't dispose properly and was missing a shade of his usual pace.

But we were possessed in the second half. The intensity was the best I've seen since the prelim last year. Bombers shit themselves. Leon was best afield. He's been a revelation rebounding off the back this year. Him and Reid are porbably the two best kicks in the team.

I worry about Maxwell. He's a superb tactician, leader and organiser but I can't help but think there's a more talented player on our list than him to play his role.

Fasolo; superb. The kid has a bright future. Sinclair showed a bit of flair as well in the little time he played.

No. Can you describe his first goal?

I think this describes it well.:p

I love watching the goal umpire move there, hilarious.

I was pretty unimpressed with our intensity early. Our pressure was off, Essendon were daring and their ball use was clean through the corridor. It isolated our defenders (unit not at full strength minus Tooves and Shaw) and created goals.

Also thought tactically allowing the loose man in defense to roam for so long in the first was the reason we allowed the Bombers such an impressive lead. Make that player accountable and I just can't see that lead blowing out as much.

When we lifted our game we tore Essendon to pieces. It wouldn't have mattered who was running out there against us. We are truly formidable when we flick that switch. To come away with a 70 odd point win when we were crap for large parts just highlights how good this side actually is.

Arguments about umpiring or injured players is really just glossing over the difference in quality between the sides. We are far superior.

Sorry for stealing a quote from the Player Review thread Quicky but thought it fits in here better....

> Wasn't happy with how our midfielders guarded the corridor defensively.

This was an issue a few times in the first half. One instance I recall in the 2nd was Ess running off their half-back line through the centre square and Sidebottom telling someone further upfield to cover the guy carrying the ball when to me it seemed the Sidebottom should have been the one chasing harder (was closer and the other Coll player had to cover behind him) but lost ground by looking up and telling someone else what to do. Obviously bad in that it gave the Ess player more time and space and I'm pretty sure it ended up in them scoring. Not all bad though IMO as Sidebottom is a smart player and I'm sure whatever he was telling whoever was the right thing in terms of structure/team rules. If they fix whatever it was that led to Ess getting that much space in the middle of the groung it is obviously good long-term.

Was impressed with the execution in the 2nd half, was clinical and the guys kicking the goals is just putting pressure on the fringe players (playing today or not) to perform to stay in the team. Absolutely thrilled with another stellar display of kicking from Leon.:thumbsu:

Okay, let's keep it real here. Both teams had massive injuries but no doubt Collingwood's out's are twice as big than Essendon's. We know that Essendon's outs are integral to their structure but compared one on one we easily win.

And losing 3 players by the end of the first quarter wouldn't have given you a chance to win the game, even with the 30 point lead in the first quarter. We didn't come to play and even with those 3 players fit we still would have won just the lead wouldn't have been as much. And remember... ""There were a number of issues; one is, I don't think I've seen a side as flat or dreadful early on."- Malthouse at the Post match press conference

Just keepin it real.

WTFRU talking about?

Pretty entertaining game today I thought.

Bombers were very good in first qtr especially, they are capable of good footy and played it well early, with some great long kicks for goal that perhaps flattered their qtr time margin, though obviously good kicking is good footy.

Luke Ball, esp in the first half, was outstanding. His contests at the ball are just so important for us and he has made us a much better team, ever since he arrived from Ross, and found his feet with us.

Fasolo will clearly be a very, very good player...pick 45, well down Derek Hine and co...again.

Pies did some bad kicking today...floaters and helicopters were everywhere!!

Couple of our kicks even made the ball look flat in the third qtr :)

Swan's second half seemed his best form of the year, ridiculous amount of the ball and classy work.

Leon, and Krak were sensational aswell.

Keefe and Caff looked below AFL level on their current form. Caff isn't the player he was last year ( I guess the reasons are pretty obvious) but he must be running out of time to stake a best 22 claim.

Thought Beams did really well 25 disposals, first game back after 5-6 weeks out.

Think we really missed Daisy in first half, we've badly missed Heater, and Dawes' presence will be a huge bonus to Trav, not that he needs too much help at the moment.

For Bombers, thought Bellchambers was very good and should play first ruck for them, Ryder did really well on Cloke and should stay there, so Hille and BC can both play without making them top heavy.

Never felt nervous even when five goals down...we reliably lift when we need to and the two injuries were always going to bite them in the arse, just like against Carlton in their draw this year earlier when Dempsey and Winderlich did their ACLs.

Oh yeah last thing...i'm developing a theory the umpiring seems worse watching it on telly, compared to watching the game live.

Reason: on the telly you get the crap commentary as an extra layer to all the decisions that just further adds to the frustration.

Didn't think it was too bad today actually, though first half wasn't that great.
