So called up yesterday and asked for an updated waitlist number, went from 1900 to a current number of 1800 and told him pretty much wtf?how? Then asked about my brother who was 3342 and he has dropped down to 3201.

Something stinks here!

I'm going to lose my mind if this is the case

This is an absolute disgrace. For those who signed up around the same time as me (2010-2011) we were told that the wait time for gold would be about 7 years. Mine is now looking to be at least 20. Whilst they aren't going to do anything, the ACCC should investigate the AFL for misleading conduct.

Its all the medallion club, high end interstate club local club members and other non afl members diluting capacity in the last 10 ? Years

VCAT might be a better bet.

I signed up for both in 2011,mcc just accepted ppl from 2009 so mcc is now quicker even though it's only provisional.
I signed up for MCC in 2000 then AFL in 2012. I was thinking I wouldn't take up the MCC when it was offered as I would already be Gold AFL. With the introduction of Provisional MCC came up sooner than expected in 2017, but my wife convinced me I should still join and I am so glad I did. Restricted took another 7 years (2024). Maybe I will get Full by 2030 or 2035. At 3500 on the waitlist, will AFL be any faster?

Full MCC intake is up to Jan 1994... it might be a close race!

Interesting. Gold is supposed to be capped at 30,000 members, likewise Silver which means 60,000 in total.

Yet they are selling Bronze, and Silver is deemed to have a waiting list. So obviously either Gold or Silver or both don't have the full 30,000 caps.
Judging by the posts above I’d suggest silver is 30,000 and gold 27,866.. obviously they have barely upgraded anyone to gold over the last 2 years and have passed these onto medallion club/corps. Something needs to be done about this, it’s garbage

I’d guess that knuckling down on Absentee members has forced people to pay up and remain active as gold whereas previously they could put a membership in hibernation for years, which freed up gold upgrades for silvers. Because they need to hang in there, there’s less movement.
Nope the natural attrition should be way more than that

100%. With the current cost of living challenges there’s no way only 60 out of 30k have dropped out
Even still of the 15,000 AFL Members, more than 60 should have literally died in the last year (as awful as that is to think about), let alone even a small number of people giving up membership.

It should actually be 30,000 gold members.. makes the 60 drop off even more dodgey
What the Absentee member rule change has done is to force them back into gold - ahead of silvers.

Absentee members (who were previously Gold) get priority over silvers being offered fresh upgrades to gold - so with many of the former having to jump back on in mass if they want to retain their membership, there's little left for the latter.

That's the point I was making in my earlier post, it's much harder for silvers now due to Absentee members not being able to perpetually put their membership on ice year-upon-year. When a Gold member goes Absentee, their space opens up for the next person in the queue - but they stay at the top of the waiting list so they go straight back into Gold if they elect to or as it happens now - they are forced to.
