Is there bidding and matching in the AFLW draft? I didn’t think there were any zones per se (apart from the concessions for the most recent expansion sides). Just the (optional) state-based nomination system.

Not like the men’s, they don’t use the DVI

For example as it stands in Queensland who have a number of top prospects, other teams can bid on players, and they can match, but if they nominate for Queensland, then only the other Queensland team can bid (and usually they've got an unspoken agreement to take their respective players). Evie Long nominating nationally is a huge coup for the comp, would have been great to see more, but it's a good first step.

I don't think anyone is meant to understand the draft system to be fair. Literally some recruiting teams were in the dark over some rules. Like initially many believed Tassie and NT players could pick a state they wanted to go to (like how some have gone to QLD and NSW in past years) but then they found out it was North/GC or national.

I too hope for a national draft because that is far simpler
