after 3 rounds of footy, here are some things i've noticed already

*We have no leadership - Johnson, Bowden - this is your responsibility

*Pattison and Meyer are our new tivendale & ray Hall - Give patto a bit of slack - its taken our 3 first choice ruckmen in simmonds, knobel and hall to get injured for him to be taking such an important role - try and be patient with him guys , i agree at the moment he looks ordinary - but he is not why we are losing.

*deledio MUST play more in the middle! it's insane to have to start every attacking movement from centre half back and expect to win - isn't he just taking away from raines game by playing that role??

*Pettifer needs to get slapped a few times to make him try and put some pressure on

*gaspar's defensive work is not the terrible liability we all thought it may have been this year - but his disposal still isn't any better

*schulz can play - tambling can play, polo needs to be able play the type of game he played in his first match i.e no so defensive - and tivendale and krak aren't the worse players on our side, pay a little respect.

*we need to recruit some key defenders - we keep recruiting tall forwards! i think polak has the ability to be a great marking forward - or an average CHB.

I have noticed this.

* The ball comes out of our forward line WAY to easy. Even from 15 metres out, it hits the deck and is swept away with ease. The ball gets pumped long into Collingwoods forward line and it seems as though they're always a chance to score.

* It's the older players that are letting us down. When Schulz took that super mark in the last quarter and I heard the umpire say 'Richo, you'll have to take the kick' I was pulling my hair out!

* Why in a pack situation does a player handball to a player 30cm away from them.

* When are players going to break the habit of winning the ball from a centre square ruck contest and hurrying a kick over their head. No other team does this anymore.

i agree with all these as well - the forward line issue is beyond a joke now

:) PETTIFER needs to find out which number tram goes to Coburg!!!! He can spend his time out north until he learns to chase, tackle, harrass and exert some semblance of pressure on the opposition!!!!

Three games have been PATHETIC!!!!

Don't mean to troll but thought I would share my independent observations re tigers. On Friday night you had enough of the footy to win but it was your skill level that lost you the match. I don't know how many times the ball was turned over, even with relatively little pressure applied.

The first half you looked like a very competent footy team. Whether you tired in the second half and your disposal suffered as a result I don't know. But as Collingwood edged closer, your game plan to go long and direct to Schulz and Richo fell apart.

It reminded me a lot of the cats last year. Bomber attributed it to a lack of fitness. This year we are apparently fitter and our skill level at this early stage in the year does not seem to diminish as the game goes on. It did last year.

Anyway just some thoughts. Good luck.

he was cracking trade value last year but it was the typical richmond "1 good year and your a superstar" that made him get re-signed

get used to the pathetic games

Couldnt help think the same thing. I was one who was keen to trade him last year and got a mountain of "you dont know what your're talking about" - that includes you Harry!

he was cracking trade value last year
.... and that is "EXACTLY" what i would have done with him

...and that aint hindsight it was out there .

Oldest rule in the book ... buy low, sell high .

Pettifers value will never be as high as it was last year , and when you look at a bloke with a questionable attitude who has had four shit years out of five ... he would have been my first card laid on the table .

don't know if the answer to every problem is "shoulda traded them when we had the chance" - the real issue is the continual inconsistency of our players - one year to the next

to say we should have traded them is just running away from the real problem - WHY DO SO MANY OF OUR PLAYERS SHOW SO MUCH - THEN DO SO LITTLE??

patrick Bowden is another, tuck also, and over the years - Rodan, daffy, naish, holland have all done it also - among dozens more - WHY??

Pettifer can play, we all know that - he can be one of the few match winners for us, but for godsake - surely someone at the club can make this guy work HARDER when the ball isn't in his hands?? Until we can make all our players do this, we aren't going anywhere - trading them is not doing much except getting an oppurtunity to have another play do the same thing - because odds are, that is what is going to happen

That also goes for the other forwards that we have. Hence why it comes out of our forward 50 so easy. If all our fowards harrass and tackle the ball will be down our end more often

I don't agree that Pettifer has only had one good year. He started coming good in the second half of 2004 when he was shifted to the back flank. That was the year Wayne Campbell told him to start working harder or piss off. Followed up with 31 goals in each of 2005 and 2006.

It is time for him to get another kick up the arse now though. He keeps trying to bump players off the ball instead of attacking it himself. That type of squib's game works ok for Byron Pickett, who can lay a bump. But Pettifer just bounces off and he needs to start putting his head over the ball and winning the pill himself.

We're better off than after the first 3 rounds of last year...

last year we played good sides and had a tough draw

5 home mcg games were meant to be a kickstart for the tough adelaide double header ahead but we have stuffed it

2004 . . . he was shifted to the back flank.

Didn't see much footy that year. Was he ever accountable for a player?

I love his aggressive leads for the ball, but as others have said, his defensive work inside 50 is average at best.

And since when has he been a midfielder? What was he doing in their in the last quarter on Friday night. He just looked like he had no idea where to go. Was he tagging, or was he meant to be an attacking midfielder??

Bad coaching by Terry. We were getting thrashed in there so Terry mixed it up and Kayne was also out of the game, I would have chucked him in defence to get some numbers back.

Pettifer is not a midfielder.

terry's selections in the midfield rotation are just plain pathetic this season! Deledio needs to be playing so much more in the middle! on SEN this morning they had a poll who would you prefer to have marc murphy or LIDS. murphy won fairly easily - thats not good, we have made a number one draft pick start looking like a top 20 pick.

then weaver must be watching the doggies too much - having a Gilbee type HBF is brilliant - it makes you so dangerous all over the the park

But the doggies have WEST, CROSS, COONEY, HAHN, RAY playing the middle - we don't

Bit harsh on Pettifer guys. Alright he was terrible on friday night, but he was clearly struggling with some sort of knock against the swans and he kicked 4 and was one of our best against the blues.

It might be that we dont have any real enforcers on the field that Petts has felt he needs to step into that role. Terry just has to tell him to stop worrying about the opposition and go the ball.

Bit harsh... get ****ed it is. He did absolutely nothing for his first 5 years. He then plays one good season - not great, but good - and then he goes back to his usual lazy and selfish attitude. He should be bitch-slapped. That's all he deserves.

And lets remember, he's a first round draft pick! I'm sick of him...

Pettifer has too much Medhurst in him. Looks good on the lead, can kick a great goal from outside 50, but pressure the ball when it's coming out of the forward line . . . just too hard:thumbsd: .

The last time I saw a Tigers player do an inspirational run down of an opposition player was Chris Newman in the Internation Rules against Ireland ages ago. Chased him from the forward line to CHB and dragged him down. It was fantastic:thumbsu: .

WTF do we have to do to get our forwards to chase and tackle though??? And those that do make some effort get shepherded off too easily. Against the Pies Dale Thomas held off Tivendale for about 30 seconds. For Gods sake, they were 30 metres in the clear, show some mongrel and grab him by the jumper and throw him to the ground Tivva. They would've played on anyway. He's about 16 years old in his second season and you can't get passed him - unbelievable!
