After the bye,all things going to plan we are going to have our best back six ,that freo can field. My point is ,your defense have a far bigger influence on who wins or loses, in the back half of the season, than at the start of the season.I'm quietly confident about us playing finals in 2011.C'mon FREO!!

it's gonna be the forcefield of fail. opposition surges will flail against it meekly like a two inch swell against a bulwark of radness.

Outstanding!

Unfortunately after the bye I think we will struggle to win many at all. Our draw is horrendous and we won't have Mundy for most of it by the sounds. Barlow will be a week by week proposition, Suban & McPhee we don't know much about. I predict us to finish outside the 8.

W w w w w whaaaaaaaat?

You don't read BOTR's words - you just go with the general vibe.

I intend to work forcefield of fail into daily general conversations from now on.

Yeah, prophecy has always been my downfall. Even know all I can see in my mind is a 2 inch bull riding the psychic tube of radness.

Where's Chops and his LSD when you need it.....

Our draw isn't horrendous. We've got plenty of bottom 8 sides to play, and almost all the top 8 sides we play at Subi.

Depends how you look at it I guess.

Yep,and with that, alot of the teams competing with us have just as hard draws as well.To me the key is having regained snos & roger back.It will allow our structures to change for the better.Regaining snos has released broughton, which covers mundy to a degree.

The key will be whether our midfield improves after the bye. Hopefully the reason they are holding out Barlow is to have him prepared for after the bye.

Hayden and Silvagni add a lot to our structure. Ballantyne as we know creates havoc up forward. McPhee and Suban add toughness and willpower.

Broughton and Duffield being given extended minutes in the midfield will be the difference.

No team outside the eight has a great run towards finals and Melb has it tough. I expect the Saints to sneak in. Much will depend on how the Doggies can fare against teams like the Dees, WC.

For our next game after GC we will have SNOS, Barlow, Hayden, Grover,McP, Balla, Mzungu all back who have been out recently. Sandi too probably. Most can play this week I seems.

Just leaves Mundy, Suban and McPhee, surely only a week or two after that. Were in great shape.

unfortunately, we wont get mundy back untill right at the end of the year. suban and mcphee having had extended periods on the sideline, sandi possibly not being 100% or even worse getting injured again. and no matter what anyone thinks, we WILL get more injuries this year

we wont win a game after the bye unfortunatelty :(

happy to contribute my verbal diarrhoea to the board, chaps :thumbsu:

i'm a little more confident for wins after the game last weekend. mellington, roger, snos, broughton in the midfield, these guys are hard at it, close checking and intensity lifting contributors, which we've been sorely missing. with the addition of ballyntine and hopefully mcphee soon, we'll be able to take it up to most of the teams to come.

Agree with all of this except for the bolded. Broughton for sure, but Duffield? He likes space. Not much of that around packs. Keep him out of the centre. Play him on a flank if required, but don't really favour the idea of him following the ball around.

Broughton is another story though.

Depends how you look at it I suppose. We play a few of the teams we are competing with for a spot in the eight (St Kilda, Nth Melbourne and WB). Every one of those games is winnable and every one of those games puts us further ahead. I hate the term '8 point game' but we have three of them coming up.

Actually it's possibly five '8 point games' given we have games against the 2 teams directly above us on the ladder as well (WC and Sydney). Again, both those games are winnable and both of those games also move us into safer territory. Heck, after this weeks game we could be just 1 win and percentage from 5th place and 2 games clear of 9th.

North Melbourne, Melbourne, Richmond and Essendon are all a good chance to lose this week.

I'll be confident once we have Barlow back and playing regularly to take the pressure off Fyfe & Hill to an extent.

Unfortunately Barlow's rumoured to have a hotspot where the bone originally broke.

That has been denied by both Barlow and Harvey. Barlow said if that was the case he would be in a moon boot. He is sore after his first game back and the fitness staff are just being extra cautious. I will assume they are being honest.

Not even with our best back six, that FREO have fielded all year?

Our fixture after a bye at a glance

SYDNEY SWANS (SCG) : Swans will probably give us a clinic on how to play contested football.

WEST COAST EAGLES (PS): We need to work through their midfield and forward press which choked us in the first derby.

HAWTHORN (PS): Despite last years final's loss they play quite well against us in Perth.

ST KILDA (ES): Will give us a clinic on how to play contested football.

CARLTON (PS): May win this one given our good record against them and the fact they are prone to dropping off in the second half of the year. But they have a good midfield than can run us of our legs, expecially in the last quarter.

NORTH MELBOURNE (ES): We can't beat this mob in Melbourne, having beaten them just once in our history in the east. That loss late last year to them was disgraceful. Richmond and Melbourne style loss awaits.

COLLINGWOOD (PS): Likely to be the same result as last year's game.

WESTERN BULLDOGS (ES): Enjoy playing us and giving our midfield a bath.

Let's hope the win/loss record is going to be slightly better than I think. This draw is looking ugly.

Why do people think Suban coming back is going to be a big deal? He wasn't setting the field on fire before he injured, just being an average player, maybe a little above average in a few games. It's like a West Coast supporter waiting for the return of Chad Fletcher in 2008.

Provided we get our midfield right (Sandi, Mundy, Hill, Palmer, Barlow, Broughton) and they don't get injured we will give a few teams a good shake.
