Agree with your aforementioned comments. Contrary to what many think, I have absolutely no problem with Buckley being the senior coach now and to be honest from say around 2014 onwards when the window would have been well and truly closed. The 2010-11 coaching regime with an aligned playing group should have been given 1-2 more years to possibly eke out that elusive 2nd flag. And given the club's history over the past 50 odd years, I would have thought that would be the number 1 priority. Whilst there was no guarantee of that 2nd flag, the coaching handover at the end of 2011 ensured that there would be no 2nd flag.
It was Malthouse who ensured there would be no flag in 2011.

Oh dear, we have the coaching virus thread appear.

Been done to death.

Toxic bore.

Other than that,, enjoyed the Rendell article.

We actually rebuilt really quickly. Started 2013 and within an inch of a flag in 2018. I do think that we should have been more comptitive than we were in 2013-2017. I don't think we were well coached, but the re-build was a very good one, so I'm always a bit annoyed by the constant criticism of every recruiting choice that wasn't perfect - overall, our list builders have been very very good.

I'd agree if not for the injury issues over that period. Can only cover so many quality players sitting in the stands watching on instead of playing.

When I'm talking coaching, I'm talking the whol kit and caboodle, not just match day decisions. Don't forget they were the injuries we had to have. We had to re-condition and break a few eggs in the process, due to Buttifant's stuff ups - that was the message from the club when Jason Donavan took over and injuries skyrocketed.

True SV, but some people need to be reminded they lost.

Lost what? I suggest we as a total supporter have lost plenty over the past 8 years. But then again, I'm about the club achieving ultimate success rather than supporting any individual within the club at the cost of ultimate success. How about you two?

There was great debate on this board about who should coach Collingwood in 2018 and beyond. On one side there were posters who believed Buckley should be sacked. Given Buckley is still our coach, those posters clearly lost the debate.

Thank goodness they did, because we are now a top 4 side with every chance of winning the flag. Had a change of coach been made, that may not be the case.

Thanks for your response. Very detailed.

I suspect that most Pies supporters put Buckley ahead of the club, even unknowingly. I have never understood why you would give anyone time to do an apprenticeship whilst in the main job. It's called opportunity loss and it just doesn't make sense. And that is what happened until the end of 2017 - lost time. But what's done is done. For what it's worth, I think Buckley is the perfect leader to have at a club in these unprecedented times when arguably club survival is more important than a premiership.
I could not name a single Collingwood supporter who would put Buckley ahead of the club. You don’t seem to know us very well.

Thoughts on the Gimp taking over the role.. giving power back to the people of Collingwood.. and end the corruption.. that has crippled it?

Oh yes you are right that those who believed Buckley should have been removed lost that debate. Too true. I am assuming that you were in the camp to retain him? So tell me, given that the years 2013-2017 were very poor, a fair sample size I would have thought, what was your basis for keeping him on if it wasn't at least partly a love for a past champion player? Furthermore, would your position at the end of 2017 been different if the coach was not a past champion player? Please be honest because every time I ask this question, supporters such as yourself tend to deflect.

Thanks re.

I don't pretend to be a man of the people. But I do try to be a man for the people.

Then you are a quality individual. Tell me do you feel that our Broady born President, who constantly infers that he is a man of the people, might just be telling a few porkies maybe?

I think with his high exposure in the media.. you've got to allow for some f ups along the way.. he's only human.. I think he wanted to get Buckley in there.. asap.. I think he had an inkling Buckley was going to turn out to be somewhat of a Noob/Mr ABC poker player type as a coach.. when he should have been on the lookout for a shark.

As progressive as Ed has been along the journey.. he does have lapses of old school in him. Part kid in awe of a champion player.. marketing.. sales.. advertising.. and he just expected everything would just fall into place nicely. Wasn't a well thought out decision. Very 90s.

Oh come on. It is entirely relevant to have a debate about the coach every year. This will be his eighth year and whats he done? Won one game only. Lost the match before that. We can only rabbit on about Beams and covid19 for so long. I suppose you want to talk about horse racing. Next it will be socks and the most boring game on earth: golf.

Buckley oversaw a successful rebuild between 2013-2017. Due largely to the toxic legacy left by Malthouse. Had the club decided to part with Buckley at the end of 2017 I would have been disappointed, but would have accepted it. The club is number one for me and all Collingwood supporters. I am glad though that we stuck with Buckley because we are well placed now.

Can you give some examples?

I actually agree with your comment that the club is well placed now and I'm comfortable with Buckley at the helm. As I have said I think he is the right guy in the current climate to be the club figure head. What I'm not happy about was his conflicted initial appointment as I firmly believe it cost us a genuine tilt at another flag in 2012-13 which is all that matters in my humble opinion. I wish him well going forward.
