Say what?

"Aisake, 23, 201cm and yet to play at AFL level, is thought to have attracted interest from Collingwood.

"Collingwood never inquired about him today, so whether they are looking to see if we delist him or not and select him in the draft, I'm not sure," Icke said.

"He's got unbelievable athletic talent and a new club may show some patience with him." "

WhAT? They can't be serious!!!

Someone please tell me this is a joke.

Carlton appear to be put O'hAilpin brothers on the market

  • CARLTON'S Irish experiment with the O'hAilpin brothers could be over.
Setanta and younger brother Aisake appear to be on the market after day one of trade week, with the Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide showing interest in 25-year-old Setanta.
The Blues would like the Bulldogs' second-round selection (No. 32) and although they would ask for Port's No. 22 pick, selection No. 38 is a more likely talking point.
"We're listening," Blues football manager Stephen Icke said yesterday.
"A couple of clubs asked about Setanta, and he's back in Ireland at the moment, but you never know how serious the interest is until such time they put something on the table.
"He is contracted so it would have to be something of benefit to our football club before we consider it."
Speculation the O'hAilpins and Carlton were set to part in the off-season has been alive for several weeks.
Setanta is contracted for the 2009 season, but it's understood the brothers had a testy finish to the year with coaching staff.
It was reported mid-year that Aisake, who is out of contract, and development coach Matthew Lappin had a verbal exchange while playing for Carlton's VFL affiliate, the Northern Bullants.
Aisake was dropped to the VFL reserves as punishment and received a stern talking to by senior coach Brett Ratten.
About the same time, Setanta was dropped from the seniors -- which had nothing to do with his brother's behaviour -- and then suffered a leg injury that kept him sidelined for the last eight weeks of the season.
Confused and disappointed about Aisake's treatment, the brothers then left their long-time player agent, Gerard Sholly, and joined Michael Quinlan's stable, which includes Sydney's Tadhg Kennelly.
Quinlan was last night unavailable for comment.
Setanta has played 46 matches in four years, including every match of the 2007 season.
It's believed he wants an opportunity in the midfield as a running wingman.
Aisake, 23, 201cm and yet to play at AFL level, is thought to have attracted interest from Collingwood.
"Collingwood never inquired about him today, so whether they are looking to see if we delist him or not and select him in the draft, I'm not sure," Icke said.
"He's got unbelievable athletic talent and a new club may show some patience with him."
The brothers returned to Ireland post-season for a family wedding. On the way, Setanta joined an expanding list of players seeking the exotic treatment of German soft-tissue specialist, Dr Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfarth, for an apparent calf muscle complaint.

How has he attracted our interest yet we didn't enquire about him? Another media made up story?

Re: WhAT? They can't be serious!!!

Haha i would piss myself laughing if this happened. So hard that my bladder would explode.

I'm already pissing myself at the prospect, there's this guy over on the carlton board that is saying how much Aisake reminds him of Franklin... I almost drenched my laptop with coffee.:thumbsd:

He didn't say the AFL team were interested - Perhaps the VFL team wants to sign him up... Although even then I'd doubt he's worth it...

With the extended rookie list it wouldn't really hurt to rookie list him. Although I do think it would be a waste of time. It's not really a risk to give up a rookie spot we aren't losing much.

Now, now .... Chris Bryan was one of your two best ruckmen this year.

Still, it's a good year to be in the market for a ruckman (Charman, McIntosh, Warnock, Seaby etc). If you did go after one this year you would not have to pay over the odds like last year with Wood. A second rounder should land a decent one.

Try to make the distinction, Bryan was one of our two most experienced ruckmen and Wood will go past him soon enough. My definition of paying over the odds is using pick 17 on Hampson. If he was any good then the brown paper baggers wouldn't be trying to recruit Warnock. Maybe they can try to fob him off on the Gold Coast.

As for the O'hAilpin's I always think of the Irish potato famine, spuds of the highest order.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but a 17 yo Hampson destroyed a 19 yo (AFL listed) Wood in the 06 QAFL GF. There'll be more of that to come.

Maybe Hampson will turn into a good player but more than likely it will be with GC17, he won't like being stuck behind Kreuzer and Warnock (if the cheats get him)

This is getting way off topic but I actually think Carlton will play all three ruckman if they get Warnock. I reckon they might be looking at playing Kreuzer forward next year with Warnock and Hampson rucking.

As for O'hAilpin, I am all for rookie listing 202cm players but there must be other 202cm rucks to look at.

This from a man called "Chip".:D

Much as I'd love to see more of my fellow countrymen playing for Collingwood, I don't think he'd have much to offer if he's already 23 and hasn't played at AFL level - not even at Carlton.

Sports journos are a bit short of material atm; expect more of this ill-founded speculation until we see a few deals coming through.

think he is to old to rookie anyway,he is 23 dont want him anyway he was playing vfl reserves this yr he is crap!

David Fanning used to destroy Andrew Bogut in basketball as well. I don't see Fanning anywhere near an NBA team at the moment.
