Can't remember the exact words but I'm pretty sure he said something along the line of I won't be surprised of Brisbane send Aish to the psd thats their choice but not a very good one.
Didn't see that as a pot shot, that seems to be a possible option and the truth.
Balmy doesn't do pot shots, very measured and deliberate in what he says.

I don't think LM is saying this because the player chose Collingwood. I think young players leaving early is something that annoys him regardless of which club. Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't he pissed with Freemans decision to leave us and didn't he suggest that we should make him walk to the PSD

So at the end of the day what's the difference with Redden? Apart from giving more service to the club the situation is no different.
its about making a stand, showing the club doesnt accept guying walking out after 2 years and that brisbane just wont roll over for them, i suppose you call it making a stand for the culture of the club and they might have to pay the price for doing so.

I think your source is out of the loop on this one, it was always on once we felt comfortable the Treloar deal was likley to proceed. Targets have always been these two with us sniffing around Howe. Also Scout at EBW has also said all along that Aish was coming.

That said I do not think the Aish deal will happen, looking too hard and Brisbane have painted themselves into a corner. Our only hope is the AFL/AFLPA bring pressure to bear.
Lethal came out hard saying we won't trade him.
Later on he, (almost justified his position) said a fair trade is never done as people over-rate draft picks.
That's the get out clause, if we are fair then it will happen.

We have heard this arguement. Let's wait and see if they stick to it.

I actually think Brisbane will send him to the Draft to make an example that's just our luck

While I've got you, my post was not directed specifically at you BEEG and I don't fall into the "you're big noting yourself" category.
Just think the collective we need to careful what information we post.

It is quite possible LM under rates draft picks because he's never been at a club that is very good at using them, albeit his clubs have been relatively highly placed up the ladder. Collingwood's drafting under LM was terrible and Brisbane fell in a hole after their flags without much talent coming through.

That's pretty much what they said. It may be all just positioning to get a first round pick from us but it may well be that, as Swan said, Aish is the unlucky example that they feel they have to make.

Swan would have been at Collingwood when Port did it to Stevens and they won the flag the following year.

And I think we can get him with the pick we'll have available, so it will be interesting, Adelaide would be a real threat though with the pick they have at 13 IMO. I will make a list shortly.

No doubt he's old school and not in touch or accepting of generation entitlement.

I agree, but it's more about changing the attitude and values of youth than just the Brisbane FC. Sure, they've worn the brunt of many disgruntled players leaving but there are plenty of other youngsters that have thrown a tanty and wanted to go home.

I think Leigh looks at it in terms of a bigger picture in setting a standard by making and example to young footballers coming through the draft. I'm sure Brisbane have issues behind the scenes but as do a lot of clubs.

Once upon a time being drafted was a privilege with most footballers giving everything to their club and not sitting there just wondering how long it is until they can return home. I think there should be some regulation to protect clubs from this happening, like a ROSO that commensurate with the players drafted position.

I have always hated Matthews but its amazing that a man who won us a flag first as coach dislikes us so much

What are the Lions going to do the next time this happens, make another stand?

And another one the time after that and so on.

What a load of rubbish.

You can just see what happens they send him to the Draft and the pick we were giving to Brisbane turns out to be a star

They Will and I still think they got Ripped Off in Beams Trade

Not to mention they can use points for academy selections which helps with the whole retention issue.

Very good point, he did say that which gives us some hope.

TBF I think both parties come out of it well.

When a player of Beam's quality says he want's to come to your club, you do what you can to make it happen. We had no idea at the time that Crisp would turn into such a good player with even more potential for improvement and being able to get DeGoey and Greenwood with the picks also addressed key areas of concern. That being said, DeGoey was no guarantee to turn out as well as expected in his first year. Just need to look at BK and Freeman to see the risk that 1st rounders still present.

We came out of it well in Hinesight

Or maybe he wants a player? Freeman a chance? Seeds is rubbish and we don't need Oxley so can't think of anyone else...

Aish in the PSD isn't good news for our Treloar deal. Carlton would likely commit to him and that would take them out of the picture for picking Treloar which as it stands is a good bargaining chip for us with GWS. Our best bet is to do a quick deal on Treloar and then negotiate for Aish.
According to bucks on Monday's afl 360, treloar deal as good as done.

If anything i believe sending Aish to the PSD would be a huge turn off to any younsters that a potentially going to get drafted by the Lions.

This is how the draft will look like, a rough guide if Aish is thrown to the wolves.

1.) Carlton
2.) Brisbane
3.) GC
4.) Essendon
5.) Essendon
6.) Melbourne
7.) GWS
8.) GWS
9.) Adel
10.) GC

After this it would get interesting...

11.) Dogs
12.) Rich
13.) Adelaide
14.) Swans
15.) GC - North trade for Bennell
16.) GWS McCarthy
17.) Brisbane - Redden
18.) GWS - This will be the trade for a four in one to Carlton on traded for Yarran
19.) GC activation pick
20.) Carlton -
21.) Brisbane
22.) Collingwood for Seedsman to GC perhaps wishful thinking

Out of that our two greatest concerns would be picks 13 and 20, but with a higher contract on his head and a one year contract, it's probably better than 50/50 we could get him in the draft.

That said, I think the Brisbane will eventually trade anyway.
