Fine. He goes to Carlton. The 3 stooges at Collingwood can go whinge all they like to the media how they've been unfairly treated. We've got picks 2, 17, 21 and will get 2 young highly rated kids from QLD. Do we really need another mid 20s pick?

We don't know what happens behind closed doors.

We'd like to think that all the AFL list managers are decent negotiators ...

... and first step to any decent negotiation is finding out what the other party's needs are.

You aren't preaching anything we didn't know already. He's just continued his form that he showed over the final 6 weeks of 2014 into this season. What are Oxley's numbers??
Has had quite a few 30+ possession games which is not bad for a kid who has only played 19 games. Still developing as a player, has had a few injuries which delayed his development a bit. Kid is skillful and reads the play very well, needs to work on his "hardness" a bit. I think people are talking about him in the trade because he is a QLDer so there would be no go home factor. Personally I would prefer to keep him, others are happy to trade him

Oxley isn't as ordinary player as you think. You should watch a few of his games. He is strong overhead and reads the game very well. The problem is we already have Langdon playing that role. He is very clean and would be a good player at the Lions. He would waltz into the first 22 and is a good age to only continue to improve. He has shown more at Collingwood than what crisp showed at Brisbane. I think you will be pleasantly surprised once he is at your club.

Freeman is an injury prone player who hasn't played in 2 years. You should be grateful for anything around pick 50.

Again, if you really want Aish like the club says it does, offer something appropriate. We don't care either way, I don't even like Aish and think he's a squib, but for whatever reason Collingwood like him, so offer up.

Haha your a clown
Aish couldn't get a game for a team that finished 2nd from the bottom..
Honestly the laughable attitude that spews out from your club and supporters is why you are a joke and no wonder you cant keep hold of young talent..

Watch the Collingwood v Melbourne game earlier in the year. And while he was a loose man in defence, you will see he has talent and played his role perfectly. In fact, we won the game when Buckley threw him down there as he was a stumbling block when Melbourne had the momentum. Not many kids are natural readers of the play. He is one of them.

You need as many picks in the top 30 as you can get. Remember you finished second last. Also, you are 'building' with recycled players. Not going to get you anywhere fast. Bears all over again.

I feel like there's a Simpson's reference to be had in the midst of this mornings discussions with our Lion overlords!

They are teaching us all a lesson on how to run an multi million $ organisation professionally after all.

Hats off to Leigh and the boys if it were a tactic, but it isn't...

This will go on for a while and gets us nowhere . Let's forget about for a week and see what we got left in the bank after doing our shopping. We should focus on players we can get.

From the Bears board...

Ok let's play tradsies without using Aish picks

Current picks 2,17,21,39,3rd rounder for Leuy,58, irrelvant after.

2=Schache
21=Bell+Casboult
39=Astbury/Jansen/Whitecross
17+39=Academy kids.

Think we can scrape through if we say goodbye to bastinac, and we rob Carlton for Casboult.

I hope Keays gets bid on around 5 and Hipwood around 8-10
Picks 17 and 39 wouldn't be enough points for one of them
Bell and Casboult. Hahaha. The wooden spooners getting rid of players the second bottom team jump at. That's the way to rebuilt your list!

I'm happy to concede that the likelihood Jed's version of events are skewed to suit his narrative, the lions to theres - likely somewhere in between is the truth.

Aish heaped the pressure on himself, creating bigger distractions as the weeks wore on. Had he said in the wake of his injury in rd 17, given an indication of his intentions, we could have planned accordingly, probably even worked with James to get the best possible outcome.

I'm not sold that Oxley will make it, as I said, he's the crisp component in the deal

TBH I've got no idea about Aish ... As I've said to you before, I'm happy to let other folks do the valuations. I don't even know what position Aish plays. (What position does he play?)

I just hope that if a deal does go through that both Brisbane and Collingwood do well out of it. Good trading and good relationships are good for business.

Curious, what's the prevailing view amongst Brisbane folks over the Beams deal? Are folks generally happy with how that went?

It would be interesting to see what the AFL does in terms of the Leun compensation pick. Could it be that they consider providing a later compensation pick order to make sure the Lions at least deal on Aish? I'm sure the AFL doesn't want them to get nothing for him

Then remove him from the deal? Let's say we put O'Brien in instead and it's still good value. We could even if we came out with Treloar and Aish alone for two firsts and a second it's a great deal because Treloar alone is arguably worth two firsts.

I'd also argue that Anderson doesn't need to be good he just needs to improve our list and for mine he'll do that more than Rioli for instance.

Getting back to Aish. The whole situation is starting to annoy me. We need him big time and the further this drags on the more I just want to see the clubs getting it done and resolving it professionally ala Adelaide and Geelong.

Yeah it's all good to hang shit on Brisbane, but no one wins out of the current state of play running it's course. Look at Adelaide they've bled quality (Dangerfield, Davis, Gunston and Tippet) over the past 3-4 years, but they just get on with the job...
Thus is what bugs me about Brisbane so much more than anything. Adelaide have lost more quality than Brisbane the past 5-10 years and Brisbane have bought in much more quality than Adelaide. The Crows have had to deal with sanctions/loss of draft picks delivered by the AFL yet they keep their heads up and move on. They traded their best player and a top 5 player in the AFL on day 1 of trade week for unders yet Brisbane are kicking up a stink over a pick 7 who made it clear he never wanted to go there in the first place.

Examples of a quality, respected AFL club, compared to an imploding unprofessional rabble.

The clubs were warned about this weeks ago that compensation isn't what it used to be. That, added to finishing second on the ladder will lead to that result.

^^ This

The compo system has been revamped to avoid the Frawley type scenario and clubs have been advised. Paul Connors also flagged Luey being 3rd round compo under the new system. Which has turned out to be on the money.

Obviously WC weren't listening as they shouldn't be surprised on Selwood.

Think this is just getting clubs ready for no compo moving forward.

We would have got Beams a year later for nothing, so lets not pretend Collingwood have hearts of gold, they were only looking after themselves.
Yes but;
a) It would be stupid to lose him for no compensation, as Brisbane will find out, and
b) we didn't wait a year and then send him to the draft, jeopardizing his prospects of continuing his career where he wanted to, which Brisbane apparently considers to be acceptable practice rather than petulant grandstanding.

I would like to agree with you but i dont think brisbane are doing anything illegal. Just being campaigners.
It's not about whether Brisbane are doing anything contrary to AFL rules. The AFL rules themselves might be illegal - ie an unreasonable restraint of trade. If a player has no binding contract, gets an offer at new club but can't get there, or can't be sure of getting there via the draft there are plenty of lawyers who would love to take on a restraint of trade case.

This whole situation isn't a knock on Collingwood. I think, as the dust settles on last seasons trade period, both sides are really happy with how the Beams trade worked out. You're taking it far too personally if you think otherwise.

Its Aish and Pickering, and the way they've dealt with the situation that has got the club offside. I think if they'd been more forthcoming with the truth things would be slightly more amicable with them, but they weren't so they need to sweat...

Fair enough, but what if Aish really was undecided to the last minute?

Pretty good case? Ayee lmao. Do you honestly think the AFL will sympathize with a glory chaser? Unless we have a sudden change of heart, he will be at Carlton next year and you guys are just going to have to accept that.
I am sure the AFL would not have a lot of sympathy for Aish. What they do have is fear that a legal challenge will invalidate their restraints and ensure all uncontracted players are effectively unrestricted free agents. Brisbane want a longer hold on draftees. I can't see the AFL backing that for the increased restraint it places on players.

And they'll still probably ask for a trade in 2years time.

Look them up. It's not hard.

Aren't you offering an ideal that Aish wanted out last season? If so, why didn't he speak up then?
He did. The Lions refused to trade him, which is fair enough, because he was under contract, but they must have known there would be an extremely high chance that he would just make another request in 2015.
Why continually postpone contract talks if he never wished to actually engage in them?
Seems like a pretty switched on kid. First rule of employment is never burn your bridges too soon. He hasn't done anything wrong by Brisbane. He fulfilled his contract and requested a trade because he is unhappy at the club.

I think if Brisbane let Aish slip into the PSD the AFL would surely take this into consideration for future Priority Pick requests.

Do you actually have any proof that we aren't negotiating for Aish, or are you still you basing this on Lethal's tough talk pre trade week/month?
What is it with Lions supporter? Fall back line is 'prove it'. If stuff in the media suits your arguments, then that's what we have to go by, but if it doesn't, all of a sudden the media can't be trusted.
