Injury Alan Didak out 1 month

This is definitely the last thing Didak of all people needed. We saw last season what happens when he doesn't have a solid pre-season. Hopefully he retains his fitness for Round 1.

The club is saying they're wanting to get him right for round 1 (which is 7 weeks away) and an adductor strain isn't the end of the world, it's just unfortunate to happen to Didak of all players. But again, he's done all of the preseason and well up to this point so hopefully it doesn't put him back too far.

Thanks for the update mate I was beginning to get worried, but with some things being said I was really starting to get pissed off,the lad posted "it,s only a flea bite" and he will be back soon.
Good on you mate and go the Pies.

Sad news, for Dids more than anything. We hardly got a decent game out of him this year and most of his credits have run out. If some of the young blokes stup up, it could be tough for him to return. Hopefully no one tries to rush things as that could really stuff things up.

He'll go to Arizona as soon as he can and come back better than he did last year... Hopefully.

Maybe he can work on his upper body to give him more strength and confidence so he can actually win a hardball. It is do or die for him in that regard because his speed will be all but gone. He needs the strength to be our Stevey J. He has the skills of Johnson but he just doesn't have the strength to win his own ball or take the contested grab on a similar sized defender.

It's not the injury I'm worried about it's his mentality towards the contest and last yearI had no hesitation in saying he was the softest player in the AFL, if he doesn't change this then it's sad to say but he probably won't play more than 15 more AFL games.

Not sure you'd be my first choice in a crisis MMD. There's just a hint of panic about you. :D

Unfortunately, I am probably a 'glass half empty' sort of person (though I am better in a crisis than you might think). In Didak's case, he had such a poor year last year that it is hard to see him improving without having achieved full fitness.

Do the words Travis Varcoe mean anything to anyone here?

It's one all, have no doubts about it, Geelong are the measuring stick, forget backline disabled Hawthorn, or forward line disabled Carlton, we need to beat Geelong to win the 2012 flag, at some point in September anyway.

And it's one all, they have lost Varcoe for an extended period of time, and we have lost Didak. Both will have interrupted pre seasons, and most likely delayed starts to their home and way campaigns.

AND BOTH ARE VITAL TO THEIR TEAMS' ULTIMATE SUCCESS.

Forget the rest, keep an eye on the Pussies, because where they fall, we can rise, and at the moment's it's 1-1, and the game hasn't even really begun yet.

Bring on 2012, one injury doesn't ruin our chances, especially when it's minor.

IT'S US AGAINST THEM.:):D

Not great news, but not the end of the world either.

The club now has to be careful with him, and they need to ensure he has more time then usual to recover and build up a good fitness base before he debuts for the season.

Personally, I wouldn't be even considering him for round 1, if he is to be out for a month, I'd give him 5 weeks to fully recover, then place him on another 4-5 week program to give him his own mini pre season before he returns.

We don't need him in April and May, we need him in September.

Agree 100%. Waited all year for him to come good last year and it never happened. Maybe a month off then a comeback via the VFL would have changed it.

Oh Woe Oh woe oh woe are we
Al Didak’s torn his groin, you see,
His season gone, it’s time to moan
And sook and cry in grief and groan.

An abductor tear has drained the cup
From which we must with sorrow sup,
Our dream of Didak in full flight
Now clad in darkness, stripped of light.

Shocking news and whilst I definitely don't think it's curtains for Dids, I'm not too optimistic about what 2012 might hold for him after this setback.

I hope we take a cautious approach with him and in doing so, opportunity opens up for others. A good showing in the NAB Cup would make Fasolo a certain starter rather than the likely sub and whilst he's no Didak, I'm reasonably confident he can perform the role -- it may even speed up his development.

Then of course there is Macaffer and/or an incentive for the likes of Seedsman, Ugle and even Elliott to push their case with more gusto.

Certainly not the sort of news we wanted before a ball has been bounced and I was looking towards Didak to be a source for improvement after falling short last year. Nonetheless, we carried Didak for most of last year, we can cover him during the first half of this year.

What has the club had to say about this? If it is diagnosed as a four week injury it makes no sense that it is torn off the bone. A four week torn muscle is pretty standard. It isn't great news for certain but it is hardly dire straights either. If it is a standard tear there is no reason to believe he wont recover and get back to his best for a large portion of the season.

Bad news, but even if it's a ten week injury, he'll still be back and hopefully fresh by mid season, ready to wreak havoc on his tiring opponents.

Well, that's the hope :)

But he is a confidence player as I think Bloben said earlier, and he did give that impression very strongly last year that he just didn't 'trust' his pec repair.

That is a concern for sure, hopefully that side of things is addressed as well as simply the injury itself.

Anyway, someone else gets a go, so it's not all bad; just sad for Didak though.

Collingwood director of football Geoff Walsh said the club is hopeful that Didak will be back on the field in time for round one.

“Alan has torn his adductor muscle and will miss the next four weeks,” Walsh said.

“He has had scans to confirm the injury and now will go through a rehab schedule to hopefully get him back and ready for round one of the home and away season.”

You'd think those scans would have revealed if it was off the bone, and they wouldn't be saying 4 weeks.
