Common knowledge that it cant be brought to the seats.

What impedes this?

I dont believe it is the liquor license because they have the pens outside.

Is it to protect the SANFL games - you can drink at your seat there so that would mean people would be more willing to attend local level games?

PS the prices suck.

I created a thread about this on the Port board a couple of months back. No one is really sure why these rules are in place. It's most likely to do with problems which are thought to be started by alcohol consumption in the arena.

Yeah but you can go down to the bar and piss on so I don't see why you can't drink at your seat, I spend quite a bit of time at the bar and it's always a good vibe down there. Even at the Collingwood game there were heaps of Magpie supporters down there and a lot of banter was had, we gave them shit they gave us shit, it was a good laugh.

Probably partially licensing arrangements, and partially so everyone can enjoy the game better ie to stop alcohol being thrown on other supporters, as what tends to happen at venues where alcohol can go to your seats.

Personally, I'm against people taking alcohol to their seats.

It's obviously not enough of a problem at those other venues to make them follow AAMI's draconian rules.

Out of all the away games I've attended, I have never seen alcohol being thrown at someone. Anything can be thrown, why would people choose only to throw alcohol?

I've heard it's a specialty at Melbourne games at the MCG - a friend had it happen to him.

It's the only sporting venue I've ever been to where this occurs. If being able to drink at your seat is such a bad thing why do no other grounds have the same policy? It's just over the top wowserism. The fact that you can drink in the corporate boxes but not in the outer doesn't sit well with me either.

I've been to the MCG countless times and I've never seen that happen. I honestly don't see any alcohol related problems. I think AAMI should cater for those who do, and those who don't want to drink. These days, they only cater for one group.

Agreed on both counts. I just don't see that it achieves anything.

Isn't it banned in your seats because it generally means people will drink more and when people drink more they are more likely to get violent?

Have you ever seen violence in the crowd at Telstra Dome, the GABBA, the SCG, or at the MCG, I have been to all of these places, had a drink in my seat, watch my lot play and have rarely seen any real problems.

I think a glass of red per quarter is not going to make me violent.
Standing at the bar the whole game could cause a few problems though.

I'm pretty sure it was banned because people were becoming violent after drinking too much back in the early days of Footy Park.

I'm really not sure. But the vast majority should not be punished. I'm sure there is another solution which will allow people to drink if they wish to do so, without causing problems for everyone else.

They can drink if they wish to, just not in their seats;)

From somewhat of an outsiders perspective, I think it's a pretty irresponsible policy. For some people (like me) drinking and watching footy goes hand in hand. If I can't enjoy a drink at my seat then it won't stop me from drinking, but I absolutely will not miss any play. What it did mean is that I downed my drinks between quarters quickly.

I drank the same amount of drinks that I normally would at a footy game but they were squashed into small blocks at 30 minute intervals. I know I have the choice not to drink, or to miss some of the game, but that's just not how I roll.

Mind you, take the good with the bad. At least they sell full strength at AAMI.

It was both that plus the constant people moving back and forwards to get the beers and then returning. With the bloody seating the way it is, the constant comings and goings was getting on peoples nerves. Then going to the toilet.
That should be banned as well while the game is on. :thumbsu:
