Remember the defenders were under enormous pressure

True and I think that's why his disposal efficiency was lower than the more experienced defenders. There's not a lot of time to second guess your options under that pressure. With experience AJ will improve this aspect of his game.

It should also be noted that 18 of AJ's 20 disposals were kicks, which are less likely to be efficient than handballs. He actually had more kicks than any other Swan, and only Gibbs had more overall. AJ was also our chief rebounder, with 6 rebound 50s (more than any other player on the ground). Hitting up a target coming out of 50 is much harder than chipping the ball around, and that was AJ's main job. He was always going to have a lower efficiency.

He only made one disposal clanger all game (three overall, two of which were FAs).

Fair enough but he consistently dropped kicks well short of leading targets all day. I realise it's not always possible to hit a player on the chest coming out of defense but you at least need to give them a chance to mark the ball.

Having said that... I've actually found his disposal under pressure to be one of his best assets this season. He just had a bad day against Carlton and still did the defensive stuff brilliantly.

well reasoned!

Great potential in this guy.

The more pressure game he plays in the better his skills under pressure will get. Elite defenders are forged in the fires of hell and our defenders have a bloody hard job. He's surrounded by some very experienced and skilled players and he's learning at a rapid pace. I'm tipping that within 5 years time he'll make AA.

He and Smith already look like they're vintage defenders.

Definitely has some swagger in him that we definitely needed. Check out the latest Irish Corner for proof.

Definite Swagger.
