Is anyone else looking forward to this tomorrow? It's free on steam and is made by some of the Valve guys who worked on L4D and who are working on Portal 2.

It's a top down co-op shooter which is apparently (I've never played the mod it is based on) quite similar in gameplay to L4D. Here is the trailer:

It also comes with an SDK which includes a tile editor, so expect lot's of awesome custom maps, mods and campaigns to go along with it in the future:)

edit: Also, it's PC only at the moment, no Mac.

I won't have it until Wednesday because of it's release time, getting up for work and my off-peak starting so late, unfortunately. Are you going to be able to squeeze it in your cap Kerrby? It's 2.5 gigs according to the steam page...

Anyone else who's interested in joining can add me: Forrest_GIMP

You should go download the "I hate mountains" campaign for l4d so we can play through that:thumbsu:

Quick impressions.

The ammo system is pretty bad, if you reload even just having shot one bullet you lose all the ammo that was in that clip. If you run out of ammo you have to hope your team mate who's a medic gives you some ammo. That's pretty much the only way to get ammo, there's lots of box and crate smashing but you don't get any ammo so it's pretty much pointless .

Pretty high-ish system requirements for a top down shooter with very sub-par graphics. The enemies are also pretty bland. They're basically just larger headcrabs from Half Life crossed with the facesuckers from AVP. They all look the same as well. Not much else to say about the graphics.

You're very reliant on your team mates and you have to give orders which are quite confusing with the buttons. Like if you want to open a closed door, you need to hold shift then hold 4 while aiming at the door you want then run a certain distance away and then your team mate will open the door :/.

There's only one campaign! From user reports, you can beat it in an hour. Pretty much the only reason to keep playing is to get the hat in Team Fortress 2 or level up to get better weapons.

It's pretty disappointing since it uses the upgraded Portal 2 SDK engine. I guess I was expecting a bit more but it's free and comes with the upgraded Source SDK engine with a tile map. I also heard you can import CSS, TF2 and L4D maps into it which would be interesting.

i was having fun with it, gonna go back on later. It improved alot when i was with the same 3 players for a couple of maps, we had the teamwork figured out a bit better

Ah okay, I'll have to play through the whole thing a few times to get the techniques going.

I just don't see how it'll take me away from L4D and CS:S though.

Add me: Stud_Kick_Ass

Hmm... doesn't sound quite as good as I hoped. Ah well, nothing to complain about either way considering it's free.

pretty fun, only played a couple of levels so far. Would love it if it was 1st person.

I had fun with the game, until some serious ***** joined and said "UR DOIN IT RONG". We were just playing medics and spam healing haha invincible ftw

You can actually play it first or third person. I'll get the code in a minute.

Forrest and I have been playing this game, it's actually quite good after a while. Only in co-op though, do not play this in offline.

The ammo system still sucks but it's getting better (the game that is).

EDIT:
firstperson
asw_hide_marine 1
asw_controls 0

First one enables firstperson mode, second one hides your marine so you can see, third one changes the camera controls to be more FPS like.

Or wait for this to come out: http://www.moddb.com/mods/alien-swarm-firt-person-shooter

I can't find the third person code, sorry.

Played this a bit last night and it was surprisingly really good. Agree with Kerrby, this should only be played in co-op. Most of the fun is trying to get through it with your friends or other people.

Cheers brah.

The tesla gun is crazy overpowered. It's good.

I hate it how if one of those headcrabby things jump on your head, you need a medic to continually heal you for it to finally drop off.
