The perfect solution is simple.
Ressies colts play 16 games (+ 2 byes), League play 18.
Anything else compromises the fixture.

Only problem I see for the ressies and colts is that if you continue to space out the 18 senior games over a 21 round fixture and the ressies/colts only play 16 of those, you're creating a lot of byes over the course of the year. I guess it could be managed, teams with byes could play scratchies or something.

Other issue is that you're getting rid of the chance to have a third marquee matchup over the course of the season. So you'd cut down to two Freo derbies, two Perth derbies. Those four clubs probably wouldn't be overly happy with that.

Subiaco is the only WAFL club that doesn't need the financial assistance gained from an alignment. Even without the Subiaco Oval deal.

I would be looking at teams that have limited long term sponsors locked in. They need the money the most.

First allowance given by West Coast this morning, a standalone will only play away games.

Where would our home ground be? Not like we would play them at Optus! Not sure if playing at training ground is possible, up to standards etc. not sure if Optus could deal with all these extra games tearing the track.

Lathlain would be the obvious ground if we were to have a home ground, I'd be happy to play only away though if it'll smooth the path towards having our own ressies team. It's incentive to get out and about and check out the other WAFL grounds.

With 10 teams, there is already more total League games - the WAFL recently cut back the number of rounds to save money - it will be stupid to add 2 more rounds back that compromise the fixture.

This is not a big issue.

Your suggestion would cut down the number of games per team for ressies and colts compared to now. That's the drawback and why I suggested making it longer.

But you're right it's not a big issue.

Foundation derbies seem to be the only one that attracts huge crowds for the freo and perth derbies.

Our training ground Lathlain is a WAFL ground - but Optus would be better.

MCG and Eithad have multiple AFL games every week.
Optus has 1.
A WAFL 'curtain raiser' before 9 Eagles game should be fine.

Optus would be best for both the Eagles and the WAFL (exposure for the league and players).

Disappointing that if we get a reserves team the bye will be back in no time since Freo have already said that if we get a reserves team they'll need to have one as well...
I read the comments as they were happy with the Peel arrangement but if we get a stand alone team, they reserve the right to have one as well but not necessarily now. Just that if they choose to in the future they can.

Yeh, both PEEL and Freo are happy with the existing arrangement.

Interesting attending a WAFL game and witnessing a Gavin Taylor getting a very long ear bashing from the president of a club rumoured to be positioning themselves as the alignment alternative.

If the Eagles had a WAFL team that played 'home' games as curtain raisers for Eagles AFL matches we could sweeten the deal for the other WAFL teams by offering them a cut of the bar takings during the WAFL match... You'd expect around 10 000 - 20 000 people to rock up early each week to watch it, so the food and beverage consumed may be considerable.

You are dreaming, mums dads and uncles will be the only ones there. If people were interested as you say East Perth would be getting 5-10k crowds.
I agree a stand alone side is the way to go and also agree playing curtain raisers is good but thinking those types of numbers will be there is just ludicrous. Pending when they start the game maybe 10-20k might be there for the last quarter at most.

I doubt many eagles fans have any interest going to wafl. 10-20k is dreaming. Maybe 1-2k.

I think you miss the point that its at the same ground - same day.

You are already going to that venue - for me coming down from gero it makes the teip more worthwhile

10 - 20k watching the last quarter/half is what I was thinking. The point is that is at the same venue, same day that the Eagles are playing. A significant number of Eagles supporters, who are already going to the AFL game, would go in earlier and watch at least some of the WAFL match. They don't need to go in for the whole match. As it is, heaps of people already arrive an hour or so before the match, and there is usually nothing to see.
