Statistically though, is not all there is to it. Often when Rutten's opponent is kept to a minimum, he (Rutten) has also received assistance (double teaming and another of our players cutting in front of him) or the supply to their forward line has been cut off. I am sure the umpires see all of that too.

And so do most other full backs - just because we are better at it people have a pre-conception that it happens for EVERY contest. Kinda of like the calls that we flood and flood and have no other game plan. All full backs get assistance no matter what their fans claim.

Don't quite know how you brought umpires into it - if you meant the AA selectors a case in point is one Robert Walls the other week on the couch. After the Brisbane game they were discussing Rutten v Brown - Walls was very dismissive of even contemplating that Rutten could be considered for a position in the AA team. While this discussion was occuring with Walls stating that he always gets help they had three contests on the screen where it was just a one on one between them and rutten winning each contest.

personally, it really knows me That Walls in on the selection committee. HE's just so so stupid. (I tried to think of another way to put this but thats all I could come up with)

He has absolutely no idea.

Maybe, but I have an inkling that Brett Harvey will get Brett Ebert's forward pocket, which is a joke. Harvey has played majority in the midfield this year.

The forwards that I think will be picked are:

Pavlich
Brown
Franklin
B. Johnson
Riewoldt
Harvey

Harvey plays about 60% midfield, 40% forward. When he plays forward he usually presses outside of the forward 50 a bit so it is a bit deceiving at times. He has kicked 31 goals, still a fair few when he was in the middle. He often goes forward when he gets a hard tag and runs him a round a bit outside 50, gets a block, goes inside 50 and has a shot.

4 key forwards? (arguably 5 if you include Johnno, who has played at CHF before, at least in name)

Yep, it's a ****ing joke.
Obviously the selectors didn't take much notice of the towellings both Scarlett and Glass recieved last weekend. Never happens to Rutten, but oh - he gets help.
If his job was so ****in easy, how come our backline turned to shit without him? If he was getting so much help, how come sides still don't score through other avenues.
I swear, it's like there's some competition wide conspiracy to rob Rutten of the recognition he deserves. Last year it was "Oh but he's not as damaging on the rebound as Scarlett and Glass". When the same old morons finally got it through their thick skulls that this wasn't the case, they made up some other bullshit argument. If Scarlett did it all himself, how come Jon Brown destroyed the Geelong backline last week when Egan went down? Surely superman Scarlett can handle it all by himself because hey - he NEVER gets help!
