The assistants left a while ago now, so plenty of opportunity to put such a story out there if true.

Why are you even bothering, the guy only comes on here to bag a) the coach, b) the players, c) the MC, d) anyone else he hasnt bagged that day. I challenge you to find a positive post from the loot. You are wasting your time on him. Surely you have better things to do.

I for one don't think it is healthy for a president to be great mates with the coach.
How will Eddie and Buckley get on then leading Colingwood in 2012?

You should have said this was a problem before we made the finals again.

I guess Ratten's relationship with Sticks was to blame for the loss in September...

As if Lappin, Harvey and Montgomery would go to Sticks and try to knife Ratten.

And then get sacked.

Nonsense that only the gullible supporter would believe.

Save it for SEN.
Grigg then decides he wants out also.
And that's Ratten's fault?

Whatever makes you sleep at night.
Also mentioned huge play will be made for Roos in 2011.
Right.

Roos is in the media now and heading up the Swans development academy.

Pretty sad that he goes to all the trouble of making up a story just to push his own agenda.

that's fine just live in denial. I bet my bottom dollar Ratts will not coach Carlton in 2012. Look out if we have another form slump like we did this year the natives will get restless. Ratts=Matty Knights version 2011.
i heard that they were restless this year, because roosy for coach, was mentioned mid year. if you have assistants to help you, it is in the clubs` interest to listen to them or don`t have them. it was supposed to be a suprise to swann that monty was sacked.( he found out after the event apparently) why would 3 guys all leave at the same time, if nothing was up ??? i agree with you that ratten won`t be there in 2012. no plan "B". players wanting to go, says something is not quite right somewhere. ratts was a great player, but they don`t always make great coaches. essendon may be about to find this out for themselves...........who knows.:(

don't forget the water temp in the pool at Princes Park is toooooo cold. Club is going to hell

Its the missing ingredient. Get this stuff and a flag is ours. I have it on good authority, a family member of the manufacturer......trust me.
just wish we had some decent physios to sort out all our OP dramas

I don't know what to think. Hopefully everything gets sorted out soon, including trade week. What date is the deadline for signing up coaches?

I'll be damned if I'll bag a Carlton Legend. Think of who you are talking about before you throw the stone.

FWIW....BIB has stated many a times that Rats and one of the assistance never saw eye to eye.... that's why he left...why that way...that's for you to work out.

I'm not buying into any of this crap.

BUT Ratts has this season to prove him self. If we remain stagnat and don't improve then I think it would be time to move on.

Yes they have an excellent relationship and Greg is one of Micks biggest fans.

When you see what he has done with the pies over the last 10 years I would happily pay him $2m a year.

If Judd is worth 1 then Mick would be worth 2.

We do;t have the resources that the pies do...not sure if I want Mick, I like Laidley.

Bur let;s see how it unfolds in 2011..no one picked us to make the 8 post Fev etc, we had a good year really, if some of those senior players kicked straight we would've arguably made a prelim'.

I don't think he'll be coaching eithert in 2012 FWIW.
I think Ratts was part of the grand plan to bring one of our own in to steady the ship, get members back on board, let the youngsters get to 50-100 games. Then if he's not up to it by the time we were ready to push for no. 17 make a decision mid year to stick with him or bring in a coach who can take us to a GF. I get the feeling Swann & Board are leaning towards replacing Ratten but will give him every chance in the upcoming year.

The club knew they didn't take the best coach available when they took Brett on so the must have thought settling the ship was more important first.

The scum have done the same thing with Hird. They were going to drop sponsors, members etc. If they didn't act. They have put a favourite son in just to steady the ship and see if he makes it or not. I think they have done the right thing for now.

The hard thing is making a call on a club champion like Ratts. If he doesn't make it though till 2012 I think he's been given every chance though.

I disagree with you and I re-iterate time and again my recourse to history.

Flags are won by clubs that stick with a plan until fruition, no matter if it takes 10 years (B Thompson was near sacked, 18 months ago there was disquiet about Malthouse with many saying pass it over to Figjam, it took the Hawks a while to embrace Clarkson, Ports major sponsor wanted Choco out etc etc) but strong boards see the course.

Tough boards maintain faith in the coach unless they are clearly not up to it and Ratts has shown he is up to it now, he got a club that finished bottom 2 for half a decade (and took over with us on the bottom) to the finals in his 3rd and 4th full years and a team into finals when everyone said the loss of the coleman medalist would mean not enough goals, so he has clearly demonstrated he has what it takes but history shows it takes much longer than 4 or even 5 years. Should the Saints sack Lyon? Of course not, if they do they wont win a flag in this window (they may not anyway for other reasons but it wont be because of Lyon).

So the evidence is clearly on display that we are headed in the correct direction and we MUST stay the course. Change coach and you reset the clock and start again. What the club needs to do is display the courage to ignore the impatience of the rabble and stick with the plan. I believe we will do that. This rubbish about Ratts given the job by Pratt to shore up membership/sponsors is just that, rubbish. Pratt was a get the best not best available advocate and we interviewed Voss and a number of others before Ratts was given the job and many think Voss turned us down, that may be true but I wonder if Pratt saw he was not for us and was never going to get the gig anyway. If Pratt did not think Ratts could do the job Ratts would not have the job.

Now the only question left is does the board have the courage to see it through, even if it takes another 2 or 3 years? I think the evidence is they will but only time will tell. And perhaps the rabble will be silenced next year with a top 4 finish (I think this is what will happen) and Ratts will get an extension (and take us to 17).

All is not well.

I was reading similar posts on the carltonsc forum.

It seems there is more to it than many supporters are willing to accept.

I thought we were over this infighting, petty games, unprofessionalism within the club. Apparently we're not, from what I've read.

We were this old boys club years ago when we were at the verge of dying as a club. We need to get over it and move forward and stop sticking with old players to move us forward, be it as president, coach, whatever.

Things are not that good behind closed doors at our club, I've turned a blind eye for ages, but it's about time we move forward.

Does anyone on here know about PRatt's son in law wanting to take over from Sticks?

I dont think the Sticks/Ratten relationship is going to move this club forward. Love Ratten as a player, and love what he's done with this club in 2 years, but I dont think he's the man to give us what we want - premierships.

I can certainly see your angle - But saying Ratts was the best not just even the best available is hard to back up when there were clearly seior coaches that could have been poached as well as far more experienced asssitants around than Brett. eg. Mc Kenna, Longmire amongst others. Voss was not experinced.

How can you say those names were "better" head coaches than Ratts at the time?
