Is it ok that we paid the equivalent of pick 15 more than what brisbane paid for a contracted neale last year .

That should have been the maximum we paid for kelly .

We could have traded our future 1st + 24 for a pick around 10 to add to pick 14 then demanded a 2nd in return and kept 33 as well .

Everyone keeps complaining we have no young midfield talent coming through well thats not going to change for at least 2 years now that we paid massive overs .

And this is my point exactly.

We'll wait and see how the draft pans out but i really think we should have still been hitting the draft having added kelly to the side and having picks 33 and 36.

I've already put the names out there for who I want and if none of them are available at those picks i'll write down on the day who i would have picked with what we had available.

We may have over paid a touch bit it still feels like we paid with buttons instead of coins.
Just a whole heap of buttons, and Geelong took all of our buttons because that's all we had.

Here's one for you - our picks this year of 14, 24 and 33 were worth more than pick 3. Why did we not trade up into the top 5, surely Melbourne and Adelaide could have seen they were getting a good deal! No one has ever answered me on that one - yes, I don't buy into the DVI points thing to weigh up trades.

We have just secured elite midfield talent coming to our club so why are we moaning that we're giving up three draft picks that could all be busts anyway? What would the young midfield talent add to a flag tilt in 2020 that Kelly could not? No one has ever given me an answer on that either.

Alternative is Kelly isn't in blue and gold by the team the draft starts, and we look for someone as good as Kelly with pick 14. That would work out well.

Do you think hitting the draft this year and next in full would be better for our premiership window than sacrificing some for Tim Kelly?

Ya win some you lose some bruv. I'm not perfect, contrary to popular belief 💃

Laverde needs to ditch that spud team before he comes good i reckon. Don't think i wanted Cockatoo any more than anyone else on here though from memory.

Maynard i was right about, pity he went to that team. Jury's out on Scrimshaw, Bailey and Eli Smith.

I remember I was pretty keen on both Laverde and Cockatoo. Disappointed when we did not get them. I also remember being pleased we got Sheed and didn’t even have an awareness of P Cripps who went a couple of picks after Sheed.

Drafting is an inexact science and I agree we paid more than I wanted to but I would not give up Kelly to get the picks back.

So with all our list changes, does this mean Mutimer, Allen and Brayshaw are likely to be the only uncontracted players on the senior list? (if Schofield and Ah Chee extend as expected). Meaning thats probably the 3 delistings required to take 3 picks?

Masten has already gone - Mutimer and Allen is my guess.

Okay, so I think we overpaid a little - but seriously can people stop losing their bloody nuts just a little bit?

We can't draft mids for quids right now. I see no evidence to suggest that a) this draft crop is somehow notably better at the range where we had picks than years past or b) we've somehow got better at drafting mids.

Despite that, we've just secured a premium mid. Bugger me.

I don't love the trade myself, but I'm happy to see us be opportunistically bold when circumstances present themselves like they did here.

I think the way more interesting question is what do we do with our game plan this year, given the exposure we saw last year and the new talent in the middle? Get excited you sad sack campaigners.

Everyone agrees we over paid by adding pick 33.

And that's pretty much it.

After nga bids and shuffle 33 becomes 36/37.

Oh well swings and roundabouts. Remember all those extra 2nd rounders we sneakily procured in the past few seasons. Well we just spent one.

Did Simo really say we now will look at trading back into the early rounds?

That will have to include a decent player.

Would laugh my are off if we traded back in and ended up with better picks than we traded out. Maybe that's why we did the Kelly deal so quickly.

It would be the same without Tim Kelly.

Now: Ah Chee, Allen (assuming he's not delisted), Venables etc etc
Hypothetical: 18 year old Vic kid with pick 14, 18 year old Vic kid with pick 24, top WAFL player with pick 33, Ah Chee, Allen, Venables etc - but no Kelly

Which would you prefer in 2020?

No team has good depth to cover multiple injuries to star players to a sufficient level. The list cloggers are at all 18 clubs who you pray does a decent enough job when injury and suspension hits hard.
Your acting like if we got a better deal we wouldnt have got kelly which is BS . We could have got kelly using other simular trades as market value and then had a better draft hand to build our next generation.

We only have to delist 2 more. Mutimer is 100% gone, brayshaw is a great young player but athletically is very likely not ever going to be at afl standard. He is slower than mitchell and priddis were when they retired.

Allen is yet another what if. You can have all the pieces of the puzzle and sometimes it just doesn't quite come together.

I'd suggest Allen and Brayshaw are still on the list as we are hoping someone else may be interested in them and it might give us a slight pick upgrade or as per ****ing usual the club just won't release anything until they have to which is the next list lodgement date.

But in the end it turns out it wasn't the value we were hoping for and we had to spend perhaps a bit more than we liked to get him.

Still, better to have him here than not. Like I keep saying, if we lost him because we were hung up about a pick in the 30s I would encourage everyone to riot. We are not the only club in the land that had to bend over to get a key cog in the side for a premiership tilt.
