Didn't they change the rules to stop teams doing that?

Maybe. I’d be interested if anyone has a link if they did.

I know that last year you couldnt trade a pick for a future pick and then do the reverse trade after matching. But not sure if they have banned trading picks once one of you’re academy/fs has been bid on.

I'm more bullish about Ah Chee than most.
Whenever he plays he seems to put in a decent performance, but is seldom given the opportunity to string games together and build form.
I think he has a role to play as a high half forward who can apply pressure in the forward line and provide superior ball winning at forward half contests. Similar to the role that Venables was playing last year.
Playing Ryan, Rioli, Petch, Cameron and Waterman this year delivered us lots of goals but hurt our ability to win the ball in our forward half once it came to ground.
I'd like to see us play two of Ryan/Petch/Cameron along with one of Ah Chee/Venables to provide a better balance.
In the WAFL games that I saw this year, it was evident that Brendon can bash and crash pretty well, but awareness and composure with the footy are issues. He's had many opportunities to break a game apart, but can't quite get there.

Came in for Kennedy against Freo and synergised well with our smalls, splitting packs and dishing off ground balls. But he isn't a natural forward and unless injury strikes I can't see him winning a regular spot.

It's down to him to own the WAFL early in the season and earn a call-up. If our midfield improves there may be a flow-on effect that gives us deeper i50s and reduces the need for that high-HFF to lock the ball up on our flanks. That role probably would have been handy this year as you say, where we lacked penetration into the forward-line and turned it over for quick rebound.

In 3 years time when Jackson is feeding a midfield

Would we really prefer he goes to GWS feeding their star mids and making them a legit threat to our continuing dynasty or would we rather him be feeding a 32 year old Fyfe and his band of merry blockers who are zero threat,

I want all the WA talent to be taken by interstate/vic clubs. That way if/when they ever want to come home we're an actual chance to land them.

Any WA based players the Dockers pick up this year in the draft won't ever play for WCE as we don't trade with them.

If Melb bid pick 8, that's 1551 points.
20% discount means Freo have to match with 1241 points.
Pick 10 is 1395 points, so they have a surplus of 154 points (around pick 60).

Has the points table at the bottom of the page.

I worked on a 25% discount for some reason

I think the best bit was that was during the whole pre-draft bidding phase of the father-son rule. It meant we bid on him with 6, so North had to match with 8, then we went and traded 6 anyway to Collingwood for the Sheed and Karpany picks.
Ha ha - that is a ridiculous loophole in hindsight. Suckers

The dockers will have a trade lined up if a bid comes before 10. Trade 10 for a future pick. Then use 22 to match or even split 22 as part of additional pre-agreed trades. Then trade back in with the future when it suits them. Still not ideal.
If they dodge with 10, they'll need something back in the 2019 draft of either pick 57 or higher, otherwise they'll lose 176 points worth from their first rounder in 2020. Read another way, they'll drop at least one draft position unless they obtain one of the first three picks in 2020.

This NGA academys was just to appease the vic clubs having a big sook .

All they needed to do was just take the discount away from the academy picks . If green was bid on at pick 3 let the GWS pay full price . The fact they get access to him is the reward .

When players start costing 2 later 1st rounders then they start to seriously think about wanting to match or not .
From memory the discount had to do with the academies in the northern states being funded by the clubs and not the AFL hence the need to provide an incentive for the clubs to invest.

He is out of contract, he has every right to leave. They should have got a trade for him while they could. He now walks to the pre season draft and I highly doubt GC will keep an uncontracted player there against their will. Wait and see I guess
They offered Martin and pick 15 for pick 9 apparently, fair enough I would have thought. I think GC have had enough of being done over at the trade table and not before time.

That loop hole was closed by the AFL.

Once a bid comes in you can't trade out.

Nick Robertson has been delisted.

He would be worth a spot if say Ah Chee leave.

Could even see him taking Smith’s spot on the rookie list, if he was still available in the RD.

I agree, we've really underutilised Ah Chee so far in his time with us. IMO we should've given him, at the very least, a consistent run of games in the senior side, rather than dropping him every second week.

He's really never had the chance a to get a consistent run at it, and I was hoping we'd give him that here. Hopefully he can establish himself in 2020.

Wasn't Bell quoted this week saying he "doesn't want to be seen as easy to deal with"? Can't imagine any clubs doing him any favours in that case.

We have been gunning for a flag. We cant afford to play average players in the hope they get better. He needs to dominate WAFL and force his way in. He hasn't been very consistent even in the lower league.

Thing is with Ah Chee he plays better in the AFL then the WAFL...

He got 4 goals and 25 disposals in the last WAFL game (or one of the last), and we still wouldn't bring him. He's been pretty good at WAFL level with some massive highlights. I remember last year, we kept dropping him when he didn't really deserve it.

IMO he's the sort of player who would excel better at AFL level than in a state league.

He kicked 4 goals that game yet averaged half a goal a game for the season. The majority of his games were under 20 disposals too so I dont think he has been that great. He just isn't doing enough on a consisent basis to be selected. The odd hanger isn't going to cut it. Handy depth but thats about it.

Do we have a quota for delisted players from other clubs?
Not officially, but spots on the rookie list are limited and I don’t think we can afford more than one delisted midfield type on there.

I was more insinuating that I’m against drafting delisted players from other clubs, not that we should have more :moustache:
