Apologises if this has been posted elsewhere.

Why did they have the Allan Border Medal when the test team was overseas.

Not that I’ve watched it for a few years and generally just check out the winners.

Just seems a bit weird to have your biggest awards night when the test team isn’t in the country.

it doesn't have the same prestige as it once did (if it ever did).

only a handful of players can win it, in any given year and the system is flawed.

When would you have had it? Any earlier and the Men are either already preparing for the Sri Lanka tour or playing Big Bash while the Women are in the middle of an Ashes series. Can't do it after the Sri Lanka series as the Men go straight to the Champions Trophy.

yeah not sure when the best time is.

end of the summer makes sense though.
with BBL and the women's now being more inclusive it makes things tough.

in the middle of our winter won't work as it won't make the news with the AFL dominating.

do we do it just prior to the international summer with the voting period counting for the previous year.
that way, in the 1st test, commentators and the like can refer to a player as reigning AB medallist etc.

i'm not real sure many would be able to tell us previous winners from each year.

do we even have it at all ?

This year just seemed even tighter than normal to try and schedule it in

We know that the night wasn't going to be held until after the BBL season finished & the conclusion of the Women's a Ashes

Obviously the men's test side is currently in Sri Lanka for 2 tests, and the calendar then looks like:

Champions Trophy, 19/02 - 9/03
IPL, 21/03 - 25/05
WIPL, 14/02 - 15/03
Women's NZ tour, 21/03 - 26/03

There's was always going to be absentees

yea absolutely stupid having it with the stars not there.. should have had it a month ago and just worked the Big Bash around it.

call me sexiest but your better off missing the women then the men

Except that one of the awards is the BBL player of the season, so couldn't be held until after the BBL season finished - by the stage the test team was out of the country anyway

My favourite memory re the AB medal night is when John Howard offered a handshake to Glenn McGrath and Pigeon just walked straight past him.
