Essendon has to many "Almost Trades". Hopefully knights likes getting involved in things like trade week, and doesn't just sit on the fence like our now departed coach.....;)

Trade week is only good when we seemingly get a very good deal.

This is infrequent, and, unless a very good deal presents itself, I hope we're as quiet as possible.

With our coach has been replaced, shouldn't our recruiting staff be scrutinised as much as Sheedy. Time to replace them with some fresh blood, Scott Clayton would an ideal replacement for Dordiro:thumbsu:

Yep, but I think it was at the end of '98 or '99. '99 if I had to guess.

Pretty sure it was 96, rings a bell for me.

Sheeds took him through the Hall of Fame and convinced him to stay.

Solly very nearly went to Richmond, Dean Wallis convinced him to stay with his "You might not leave Essendon with a million dollars, but you'll leave with a million memories" comment.

Third paragraph mate. 2000. Knew it wasn't as early as '96 because it was when he had established himself pretty well already.

Thanks for that.

For some reason I figured he got a lot of attention after 1996.
He was pretty damn good in the Prelim from memory.

Up with the times arn't you. Guess you missed last year where we changed a few of the recruiting staff and put Merv Keane in as head recruiter. Dodoro is now list manager and co ordinates the recruting staff but is no longer the head recruiter as such.

I must admit I was away last year and didn't know that... thanks for the info.. makes sense why 2006 was such a bumper year!! I know I wasn't the subject of yr post but thought I would let you know that some ppl appreciate being told these things...

The 2006 draft was mainly Dodoro. Keane didnt come on board until after the draft. What it did show was Dodoro was reasonably capeable if his sole focus was on the draft and not other matters in the football department.

Ok.. but long and short we should expect much better trading/drafting by the bombers from now on? Also being the oracle you are.. how much influence does the coach have? Like if Knights is trying to change the gameplan does he say.. "I want X,Y,Z" and then recruiters look at those players.. or does recruiter rank his top 20 players and say this is the next best young kid available and we worry about actually putting together a functioning side in 2-3 years time..

The coach will always have some input but it should be up to the recruiting staff to rank the players in certain area's for the coach to pick from. The recrutiers rate their top 100 as well as rating players in their various groups.
I think that most of the time they like to pick the best available early and then work their stratergy after that. They generally have two or three plans for different scenario's that happen. They will also have all the players rated in what area of the draft they think the player will go.
I know that Knights will be viewing a bit of footage of certain players leading into the draft so he will have an idea of players being picked but it will still be up to the blokes who watch the youngsters week in and week out who will give the most advice.

Essendon in effect chose between Jacobs and Bolts as the one they wanted to keep- I know which I would've prefered. Although pick 6 and Alvey for Jacobs was a great result.

You didnt get pick 6 and Alvey for Jacobs.

Jacobs came to us for Lachlan Veale. You think you got the best end of the deal??

This is what happened,
Out: Jacobs
In: Pick 6 and Alvey

We gave up Jacobs and got pick 6 and Alvey, so how did we not get them for Jacobs? I understand the deal, but that doesn't change the fact we got pick 6 and Alvey for Jacobs.

You must still be cut that you got nothing for Rawlings right?
