Amazing Test: Aust v Pakistan Sydney 2010

Thanks Vader very interesting reading just goes to show what a spell he had over the Poms.I still say in 2006 when he got big Kev around his legs there was a rush in the England dressing room for the back door.

The India stat is interesting maybe more tests against them over there than here but they were known for their foot work so maybe a combo of a few things.

I often wonder and my mates often talk about Warnie and the great Windies sides Warne to Richards ??????

Pity Warnie did not get to play some more about Bangladesh

Against India, Warne's record is 5 tests (2 series) in Australia, 9 (3 series) in India.

His worst (ever?) series was his debut series, against India, where he took just a solitary wicket whilst conceding 225 runs. Including this series, his average against India in Australia was 62.56. Excluding this series (which leaves just one other 3 test series), his average against India in Australia drops to 41.88.

His average against India in India was 43.11, so other than that disasterous first series it really didn't matter where he played them - they always took him to the cleaners.

My personal opinion is that he was at his best in the mid-late 1990s. He never got to play India during this period - he played his first 2 tests against them in 1992, then had to wait until 1998 before he got to face them again.

Warne vs Windies could have been very interesting. Quality spinners were always thought to be their greatest weakness - just think how Bob Holland and Allan Border ran through them on turning SCG wickets back in the 80s.

Murali has taken a LOT more wickets against the minnows (he'd be well behind Warne's total if they were discounted), but he consistently takes wickets against all countries. The Australians & Indians feast on his bowling, taking him for 36 and 33 runs per wicket - nobody else averages better than 23 (the minnows have not the foggiest idea how to handle him, averaging 11 and 17 per wicket against him).

Im a huge fan of Murali...have been ever since I first saw him ball in 95. Ive also been a huge fan of Warney as well. The two of them along with Mark Taylor were my cricketing heroes growing up.

I think those stats say it all really, he holds a better average against all the big guns except Pakistan. Something most people overlook when talking about Murali. Maybe his wicket tally is padded by playing the likes of Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. However, swap the 14 Zimbabwe tests with some of the shitful England teams that Warne got to face every 18 months and im sure he'd still have taken a similar amount of wickets.

A well deserved pat on the back..... in my defense, however, I did say:

The Pakistani's field placements today were bamboozling to say the least and of course they did much to contribute to our win. :D

Bloody awful day for cricket really. Can you ever take a result seriously again?

i fear this is just the tip of the iceberg too....

Reading another forum evidently a large Australian sporting code is now dealing with very similar issue's, although its not yet about the fixing of results it is about things like "first penalty whatever" and such!
Pretty strong smell

Well then it's only a matter of time (if it hasn't happened already) before it happens in AFL.

Personally I think betting on any part of a game should be banned. This way there is less likelihood of someone wanting a match fixed for monetary gain.

Agreed.
I'm so uncomftable with the Betting agencies sponsorship in this sport, I'm uncomftable evertime the commontators speak about the odds and give agencies plugs. I'm also uncomftable with the fact the agencies suspend betting very easily if it looks as if they might lose coin but they don't suspend it if it looks like the punter might!I know this sport is a buisness, a economic benifite to Victoria, it is now a political thing, makes me more uncomftable.

History tells us things!

Yeh, but then you just push the problem underground. You can't exactly place a spot bet on when a no-ball will be bowled down at the pub - it's all the black markets in the sub-continent. Simply banning something doesn't stop it from happening.

Not really basing this on anything, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Aussies' noses were not entirely clean in this game either. They are protesting just a little bit loudly for my liking, a bit too much in denial. Not to mention Ponting making the worst captaincy decision ever by batting first, then doing the same thing again in the same conditions against the same opponent barely 6 months later. Either he is incredibly stubborn/stupid, or there might be something a little fishy going on there. In Ponting's case, I think he is just a rubbish captain, but you do wonder...

I don't actually think the Aussies are/were on the take, just saying it wouldn't surprise me.

Nothing would surprise me anymore... and that's a sad, sad statement!

I know we can't do anything about international cricket and the mega bucks that changes hands over those matches... but we can and should protect AFL. Stop the betting and (attempt to) keep the game clean.

No way should they ban betting on sport!

Well Kudos to Symes15, Vader, a1118868 and myself.

Amer, jenny61_99 and birdmanptr, you're all too trusting individuals!

Say what how can a Aussie test victory and fixing be used in the same breath. If the Aussies lost against 5th rate sides now that would be fixing.

Whats got me thinking is the Ashes in England 2005-2009 maybe some Aussie boys aint clean would explain Broads figures in the 5th test 2009

Code:
Bowling O M R W Econ

  A Flintoff 13.5 4 35 1 2.53
 GP Swann 14 3 38 4 2.71
 SJ Harmison 4 1 15 0 3.75 (1nb)

The losing team is generally going to be the fixer;)

I'm not suggesting Australians fixed the Sydney test (although Ponting did his darnedest to lose) I'm suggesting Pakistan did.

In 1994 Salim Malik approached Shane Warne the night before the first test of Australia's tour of Pakistan and offered him 200 american grand if he'd get the waughs and Tim may to play badly. Shane Warne reported this to the authorities.
Malik as the fixer, trying to fix a win for pakistan. History though says this was planned long before the event (event malik denied and pakis roasted Warne) with an approach to Warne and M waugh the year before in Ceylon offering them coin for pitch information. It was niave of them to take that coin for such easily precured infomation (dare say the curator could done with the cash)but little did anyone know the bookies were evidently testing the water.
The water turned out to be septic.
I remember Warne wouldnt go to pakistan for the puppet investigation citing his saftey(he recieved threats) and Mark Taylor went recalling Warnes reporting of maliks attempted bribe.
Australia was most unwelcomed in the WC held on the sub continent the following year after the investigation that found Warne to be lying and I conclude our performance in the Final of the World cup was slightly precured by the ill feeling.

Pakistan barely contribute anything of note, the place can't be trusted to secure the safety of cricketers and they're players have once again been exposed as jeopardising the credibility of the sport. Suspend them indefinitely from the main test playing group and international limited overs bar the W/C when they can come in with Scotland, the Netherlands and Kenya every 4 years.
