So this guy can come here & vandalise things & get a suspended sentence, which can never be enforced because he is allowed to go back home.

Wonder what would happen to an Aussie if they went to America & did what this ******** did?

What really annoyed me was, he said to reporters he couldn't wait to get out of Australia, hey idiot, don't let the door hit you on the arse on your way out & don't bother coming back.

Carey should have been jailed like this guy. He thinks he can go to a country & treat it like crap, then say he can't wait to get out of the country because they got upset about his vandalism & took him to court. I just hope that they have made sure he can never come back here.

No it's about an idiot who came here just so he could vandalise, if he had have been Black, Middle Eastern, or Asian, this thread would be 10 pages long now.

Seems only crimes committed by the above nationalities get any interest, if you're a westerner, then you can do whatever the hell you want.

Actually, he came here to participate in a legal graffiti-art contest. It was after this was cancelled that he moved into illegal street art, or vandalism.

Absolute crap mantis. Why the need for "American" in the title? There are plenty of local vandals who do not get jail times-do you start threads with "Australian" vandal in the title? It is irrelevant where he comes from.

Well, regardless of where you happened to get arrested and charged, would you not be happy to leave? I would say he has taken ownership, having paid for the damage caused-which is more than most do.

That actually looks pretty good, much better than the rubbish tags seen around the place. I guess one persons art is another's vandalism, but I guess the fact remains it has to be cleaned off and that costs money.

I like seeing urban art but most of the tagging kids do is vandalism.

I'm glad you posted this, came back to the thread to do the same. Banksy is a genius IMO. Sadly though, people such as mantis will see this kind of thing as "vandalism".

Blokes like this should be encouraged instead of prosecuted.

Bingo, some councils put up walls for people to display their art which looks good & is OK, but when idiots decide to paint public transport & peoples private property, then they are nothing more than vandals.

I know these vandals aren't to smart, so someone should tell them they can actually by canvasses to put their masterpieces on.

Hopefully this idiot goes & tries to paint the White house, see how happy his own people will be with him.

I'm not sure what to say to that.

Not keen on private property but government buildings, trainlines, public places etc is ok with me.

Also advertising and billboards (yep a lot but not all are on private property, so my bad).

Visual pollution IMO. Sometimes it is thrust into my vision and I am almost forced to look at it. It isn't signage for businesses or aesthetically appealing.

Billboards suck and whereas buildings must follow codes, gain council and in some cases approval of neighbors (some might argue for good reason), advertising where permitted can sometimes just be allowed to saturate the visual scape and it is a proverbial eyesore.

It is everywhere ****ing else, books, magazines, movies, music videos (product placement). So if I have to tolerate seeing it when out in public places (billboards on private property maybe but designed to take up part of your field of vision whilst driving), the worst being besides highways, on overpasses or bus stops then they do so at their own risk.

Reverse Graffiti is also another interesting concept, as is Eco Graffiti.

The fact it is actually cleaning a mess and beautifying grimy or run down spaces still seems to allude authorities.

Splashing up ones signage, stories in images and later dissenting thoughts or satire, as a means of self expression is one of the oldest (perhaps the) forms of artwork. Throughout early history then into the beginnings of civilised society it has existed be it cave wall, coliseum, senate house, billboard or Mantis's bus stop.

So pretty much if it isn't pointless vandalism I have no issue.

If you don't ask for permission, then yeah, however good it looks, it's graffiti. It's a simple enough rule I think.
