Paul Roos

"It's a good opportunity for him (Buchanan). We had some discussion with him at the end of the year – both us and Amon were undecided – should he stay at Sydney or should he go," Roos said."He's a premiership player and a fantastic player, but probably his past couple of years he's been battling a little bit."

Pick 28 for player even his coach says his past few years have been well below par. Roosey is laughing all the way to the draft table with this deal.:(

It's not really pick 28 for Buchanan though is it?
I assume we wouldn't have given up pick 28 if pick 39 wasn't coming our way from WCE.
So it's more pick 28 for Buchanan and 39, or Buchanan for an 11 pick slide.

For Buchanan, 27 next week, it was news he was half-expecting as he prepared to fly to Bali for a holiday. In post-season reviews with the Sydney coaching staff, both parties expressed the need to move on. The 116-game premiership half-forward from Colac played nine senior games in 2009, missing most of the last half of the season because of knee surgery. ''It was a bit of both, really,'' he said. ''We didn't set anything in stone but we were on the same page. If something could come up that benefited both parties, that would be good.''

Amon's got more size about him than I realised. Should add some grunt to our young team, be it forward, in the middle or both.

Nice bump, and on a Collingwood player too :thumbsu:

Yeah. He is a lovely kick to. However that goes wayward when kicking for goal. Vossy loves the hard at it players and I think that is why he targeted Buchannan!

It's a long time since he has been consistent with his disposal in any area of the ground. You expect his ED% to be lower than average because he wins a lot of his ball in packs but I will be honest and say he really did not have a good two years disposal wise. If he can regain focus for you guys I will be very happy for him and you for investing in him.

Buchanan now has wife Cara and 16-month-old daughter Elke nicely settled in to their new city after he initially stayed with Lions team-mate Cheynee Stiller during the house-hunting phase.

He is just a “week or so” from resuming full training and was excited about his new club.

Also mentions that he played cricket with Browny when he was a kid at Geelong and that he finished top 10 in the B&F in Sydney's two grand final years.

AMON Buchanan learnt early in life that you can feed off the brilliance of Jonathan Brown no matter what sport he plays.

As a youngster Buchanan used to play with Brown in junior representative cricket in Victoria and the duo retain their love of the summer sport.

 Maybe my computer's playing up, but why has no-one mentioned Amon's great effort against the Dogs? I was really impressed with his hard ball gets and work around the clearances. If he can stay fit he could be just the kind of inside worker we need to assist Black. Seems to me that Voss acknowledges Buchanan's lack of real leg speed and is grooming him to fill a role that requires strength instead.

I didn't see the game, but I heard it mentioned that his best quarter was his first and then faded a bit. It was suggested that this indicated that his engine is only big enough for him to play short bursts in the middle.
