Amusing trend to note

Well Rich didn't get flogged but they did lose to the bottom side the week after and i dont think our performance against Freo had anything to do with there insipid performance today, unless they were all sick from the leather poisoning they had from last week.

Kangas play Port this week and the Tigs lost to them after us, only problem Port are coming off a trip from the west, lets hope they still lose lol.

What I find amusing is that teams obviously "get up" for us. Apparently norf are blood enemies of ours, Melbourne always lift for us, richmond while being abysmal for years seem to grow an extra leg etc etc

This is sooo true and I was thinking it today. I'm so sick of every other club in the league making a special effort to beat us and then they go back to normality every other week. There is no secret that other clubs see the name Essendon and want to send it packing more than any other.

This trend has been doing my head in as it makes our losses look even worse. GRRRR

I posted after the Richmond game that they shouldnt get ahead of themselves, and really it goes for melb, freo and norf as well.

Whilst we didnt put anything on the scoreboard, we did a lot things well in those games, highlighted by the fact we are #1 in the comp over the past month or whatever it is for inside 50's. Again, we clearly had more scoring shots and won the inside 50's against norf.

These teams were all jumping around after beating us, but really it was as much about us not putting it on the board and taking our chances than anything else. Richmond in particular got flogged in the contested ball, clearances, inside 50's and probably whatever else you want to measure, all except what we put on the board.

Norf - well, if I was looking at it from their point of view, they had everything go their way, we couldnt buy a goal with all our shots, they struggled to miss, got a great run lets be honest, we had to use an early sub, then got another key defender injury with Pears playing his first game back...they were carried by their older brigade with most of their young players fairly ordinary and still just fell over the line. Not a game to be jumping up an down over.

I know a relative who is a fairly high coterie member and has been to a function with bomber thompson and had a privatish chat with.

Often, people outside just look at the results and not what the club is building. Bomber knew Geelong were getting there, even when losing games in 06 because they were meeting key KPIs internally and buidling to where they wanted to be. Eventually, results will follow. His one big comment was that they real key is to build a game plan/style which will hold up in finals. Many teams may go ok, but they are playing a game which will never hold up. With Geelong, regardless of many thought with their movement etc, it was all about contested ball. That was the be all and end all for them.

If you went back to Feb, our KPI's for this season are probably well on track. Our contested ball is much improved, we are getting enough of it, moving it forward more than pretty much any other team, we are defensively better, leaking less goals. We have had injuries, but have found a few gems on our list we didnt think would be first 18 last year...we are just not translating this to the scoreboard. But hopefully, that is the next step.

To me, Im wrapped that our contested ball and clearances have held up without vintage Jobe and Heath for pretty much 6 weeks now.

Sometimes, you dont see the forrest for the trees.

And maybe that is us right now. We are all mesmerized by the scoreboard, and not noticing and appreciating the subtle improvement across the board which inst being rewarded at present.

This was never going to be a one pre-season job for the club. It will take time.

Very true.
Not going well but not falling apart either.
Fallen apart last year and each of the previous 8 or 9.

Does the season get down to Buddy's adventures at the tribunal in a few hours?

No Buddy and a chance to beat the Hawks and get the season re-rolling.

BuddyAmazing plays and it's gunna be real tough.

That is an excellent point. However I will wait and see if we can continue with this while we continue to lose (which is more than likley givne the draw).

Of course the one thing we haven't improved on is mentally weak state of mind and continually losing to our bogey teams. Until this changes, we are still a long way off.

We need a culture change as much as a change on the ground.

You get your revenge on Carlton.

I'd say that culture change has started.

Last season we would've lost to Freo by 10 goals, we wouldn't have had the gumption to withstand the WCE fight back etc

This is what I was going to say, we havnt rolled over in any game - maybe the end of the Melbourne game left a little to be desired, which is a much improved area than in the past.

We were in positions to get within a kick or two or better in the last in the Rich, Melb and North games. And the Freo one, who knows if Hurley kicked his, Jetta gets that fifty, Watson snapped that goal etc. 17 points isnt much these days.

You definitely cant have a go at us for not fighting games out.
