Well done Steven Trigg.

Steven has not only responded to my email regarding the AFC and the coaching position, but also has given permission to post it on this forum.

He couldn't make it any clearer that the AFC are NOT just going through the motions in their search for a new coach, NOR has any commitments been made to Neil Craig.

I totally believe him after getting such a reassurance.

Firstly what I sent to Steven was as follows:

Hi Steven,

I was watching White Line Fever tonight and found Terry Wallace’s comments rather disturbing. It moved me to make the following comments on the Adelaide board of the BigFooty site, a copy of which is below.

http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=124018&perpage=15&pagenumber=3

Because of the massive push of Neil Craig’s barrow for Senior Coach by a handful of media people, which does not correlate to that of public opinion in general, there is a lot of suspicion that there has been some commitment already made to Neil Craig even perhaps before the selection process was started.

This may well be totally false, but it concerns me and others when a candidate of Wallace’s calibre appears to share some similar doubts.

My personal opinion is that the AFC must demonstrate that its integrity is beyond approach, and should do so by using a medium such as 5AA to once and for all put an end to such unwholesome speculation and rumours. I think that you are the ideal person to do this, and would really appreciate such a public reassurance.

Good luck with the recruitment process, and I look forward to the AFC appointing a quality applicant in the near future.

Regards

Bill

His response was

Morning Bill

Thanks for the mail. I too saw the show last night, and I understand your point - and his - very clearly.

Interesting though! I've several times made it very clear that we're not just going through the motions, and that we want to find the best possible person for the job (inc. twice on 5AA). But aside from the words, it's bloody near impossible to ram home the fact that Neil Craig has not been guaranteed the job.

Interesting too, that we feel the same way about Terry. That is, that just maybe he's already in the slot for one of the Melbourne jobs!

All we can do is continue to state the facts as they are. To convince people like Wallace that it's an open go at it...and undertake the best possible process to get the best possible coach.

Thanks again for the thoughts.

Yeah, I rate him highly as well. I think Chris McDermott is a ********, but some of the things he says have some truth about them. I agree with you, Grolm37.

Thanks macca23 and Stephen for putting my mind at rest regarding the process.

Cheers.

i have the utmost respect for Stephen Trigg and feel that he has been fantastic in the difficult situations that have arisen since his appointment to CEO!

its not easy to keep a sinking ship a float, and i think he is doing as good a job...

as Stiffy_18 has said numerous times, people are impatient (and im the first to admit that at times when it comes to the AFC i can be impatient), but on something as important as this decision is for the club, WE have to be patient, let the "process" run its cause, and if the AFC see fit that Craig is the man, then either accept it, or hand over your memberships to people that want them! there IS a waiting list, people WILL want them!

Yeah good on him for taking the time to ease all our minds.
I just hope Terry Wallace gets the message, although i wouldnt be suprised if he is already the dead set cert for the Hawks.
God knows why you would want the hawks but

Well done Triggy! He's right, though - they have said it before and no amount of saying it again will stop the rumour mongers.

I remember when they said about Ayres "we won't be making a decision until the end of the year" and that didn't stop Rucci et al banging on about it. Even Caroline Wilson said at one stage "my mail is that the AFC will not be making a decision until the end of the year" as though this were some sort of secret she was privy to. With junk self-serving comments like that from people who should be reporting facts, you wonder how much chance a club has of getting the Truth Out There.

(And yes, I know they ended up deciding before the end of the year but that was at Ayres' request.)

Hit the nail on the head.

It's nice for us to get the message, but it's bloody critical that Terry Wallace gets it. Triggy should/will(?) no doubt be contacting him today to reassure him that the club is definitely conducting a fair dinkum selection process.

Thanks for that Macca! My fears that Craig had already been appointed have thankfully been put on hold.

Yeah, tatts comments are spot on.

Hopefully Trigg can get in Wallace's ear & convince AFC is a better place to come than HFC or RFC both adinistration & player list wise (& salary wise too). ie. Don't rush your decision Terry.

Sterling work, Bill.

Heartening correspondence from Trigg - however, I won't be convinced until I see either Terry Wallace or Rodney Eade in an AFC polo.

Fantastic work macca23 and well done to Triggy for replying.

It has somewhat put my mind to rest now that Craig has not been promised the job BUT I will wait until the appointment is made to pass judgement:)

Macca23,

Great email, very eloquently put sentiments, which is the reason I think Trigg replied.

Now, how about sending another golden email off to one Terry Wallace to convince him that the AFC is the place for him?

Or.... how about we get a petition on this board?

Im with you, maccas, I want Terry Wallace for 2005 but if Neil Craig is appointed i will get behind him and the club.
I just want the board to explore all options, members and supporters of the AFC deserve this and we have put trust in the board to do this on our behalf.
Steven Trigg in what I have seen of him seems to be a very capable person so good luck to him.

I can back up all these sentiments on Triggy's 'greatness' in dealing with the fans.

When he was the media person for the afc my little sister won Modra's training guernsey in a raffle at the shed - so my father saw triggy in the shed and off he went for a chat. Talked to him and said 'it's really nice that we won the guersey but do you think we could actually get mod's to present it to her?' Trigg gave my dad his mobile number and told him to call him during the week. We did and trigg arranged for my dad, my little sis and her friend to come down to training and be taken into the rooms afterwards where they could meet Mods and have some pictures taken. Off they went to training. They waited outside the rooms with all the media and then out comes Trigg through the side door, sees my dad and invites them in. Media people still all have to wait outside! He took them to a side area in the rooms where Mods was, they had a little chat, took a couple of photos and then off they went.

I can tell you that my family were very happy when he got the CEO's postition. I have noticed that when supporters of the club talk to him he always makes time for them. Without supporters the club would not be in the position that it is in now in regards to the money and the facilities etc that are the envy of all the other clubs in the league.

I think the club will look for the best that there possibly is in terms of a new coach. Who really believes what is written or said by adelaide media anyway?

Not to sound harsh, but he wouldn't be much of a CEO if he didn't make time for the fans.

While the AFC are a business, their business can only run if they have crowds and supporters. If you don't make time for your revenue base, then you're going to alienate them and that's bad for business.

It would surely be part of his role to make time for fans, after all it is a core part of the AFC's business profile.
