Collo keeps dream alive
“Unfortunately ‘Collo’ was the unlucky one to be de-listed, but our intention always was to take him back as a rookie,” Rogers said.

“We just had to be a bit cagey how we played it as we had another club sniffing around the edges as late as yesterday, but we knew that we could take him with our second pick because their pick was after ours.”

“It (the de-listing) came as a shock, but the quicker you deal with it, move on and concentrate on your preparation to play footy the better,” Collins said. “Now it’s business as usual."

“This will serve as a spur, but I don’t think it’s a wake-up call because I have huge respect for what I do and I really enjoy playing AFL footy. I think that I prepare and do most things right to keep my AFL dream alive.”

Best of luck to him and hopefully he can make the most of the final year of his contract. My gut feeling is that he will drastically need to improve his explosiveness, elusiveness and decision making. His size and silk aren't great enough to be able to make it in AFL without some other key qualities. Good luck Andy!

The Grunt Match Report

Speaking to carltonfc.com.au post-match, Collins pointed to Northern’s bleeding of goals late in quarters as a critical factor in the loss.
“We had too many lapses in concentration and got scored against in red time a fair bit,” Collins said.
“I think structurally we were okay. They got on top in the contested footy and clearance departments.
“That put a lot of pressure on our defenders with their quick, direct ball movement.
“We’ll lick our wounds for a day or two, but the focus has to be on not letting our fatigue levels affect our concentration levels.”

The Grunt Match Report

AC faces a huge year and needs to perform exceptionally well if he is any chance of retaining his spot on the list in 2014.

Being named in the best players for the Northern Blues is a step in the right direction but needs to back it up consistently.

There is always plenty of pressure on young men who return to their home clubs after playing in the AFL. And it was no different for Andrew Collins when late last year he decided to head back to Bridgewater following stints with Richmond and Carlton.

Given the regular wins, and the fact he's kicked 45 goals in the nine games that he's played, it's no surprise that Collins has enjoyed his first season back in the bush.

"It's nice to be able to have a couple of beers after games," he said.

Collins is now desperate to finish the season with a premiership. But given he's never played in a grand final before, his nerves are already jangling even though the big game, which will be played at Mitiamo next Saturday, is the best part of a week away.

Old man will never like Cripps, every time he sees him play he goes on a rant about how we should never have gotten rid of Collins.

Is your dad's name Abe?
