Will be 27 at the start of next season so can't see the club showing much interest unless it's through the PSD or a deal involving Peake/Murphy.

I think he's 1 year younger than Hase and chasing a 3 year deal which makes it interesting.

There is also the "demanded a massive pay rise" part.

I really don't know about this if it ends up happening. For the right team (i.e. Geelong), he would be a match winner. For us? I'm very doubtful he would be a good fit.

The idea of Lovett coming to Freo making a whole lot of demands is exactly what we do not want. If he is demanding a 3 year deal and a pay rise let the bombers deal with it. Only get people to Freo who want to play for our jumper.

Trade to get additional picks in the draft, not mercenaries from other clubs who make a whole lot of demands. What kind of message would we be sending if we were to trade to get Lovett to Freo then pay him lots more on a 3 year deal.

Players that have been great for us for so long like Haze would be headless. Only get him to Freo if we get him in the PSD for free and sign him on a 2 year deal.

Otherwise, go elsewhere Mr Disgruntled Lovett.:thumbsd:

Caroline Wilson said "he appears destined to Fremantle"... well of course that must be true

I'd rather believe the rumour about Matthew Lloyd being our forward coach. Seems a bit more plausible.

He wont be coming. It just wouldnt make any sense.

I guess if the club are keen but don't want to part with much Lovett could use the same line as Josh Carr last year. "I'll be living in Perth next season but I'd be happy to play for Melbourne/Richmond if they pick me up."

Or do a Warnock, name a $1million asking price, then renegotiate when we sign him.

Yea but he's got a 'younger body' than Hase if you know what I mean. 2 years would be fair enough, especially coming off a trade. 3 is a bit rich.

In any case, the fact that Caro said it means its about as true as pigs breaking the sound barrier, but if so I would certainly be happier with Lovett in the team than Peake - not saying straight trade necessarily, but just a comment on our list.

If we were ever going to get him we should have gone for him last year when he was being offered around on the cheap. Going after him now that his value has been inflated from one good season would reek of the 'buy high, sell low' philosophy of our old regime.

Passing on Lovett and trading Tarrant to take advantage of his sudden increase in value would make me happy that we finally have a brains trust who know how to do it the right way around.

Even cheaper if you use Pick 2 PSD for him

So he's out of contract then?

I guess a PSD pick wouldn't be too bad - unless he's going to show up on massive wages with a figjam attitude and upset the team first ethos we're trying to build.

I thought Caro's comment was a swipe at Harvey and our recent policy of taking on players Essendon don't want themselves. Don't think theres much in it myself.

Harvey will hopefully play it the same way he played the Bradley trade.

If Essendon don't want to re-sign Lovett and/or Lovett doesn't want to re-sign with Essendon there isn't much they can do really.

Or pick 3 to be pedantic. Regardless, I can't fathom why Melbourne or Richmond would take him, so then that leaves the decision with us if he ends up in the PSD.

If it is the PSD, and if we don't go stupid in terms of salary/years ... then maybe its worth thinking about. It might be that Harvey and co. would be enticed by the possibility of Hill, Lovett, Morabito and maybe Jetta all running around through the midfield.

He dissappeared when essendon needed him most, has a FIGJAM attitude and wants lots of money... PASS!

If we can get him on a 1 year deal on less than 300k via the PSD maybe, anything else is an insult to players who love the club (Haselby)

It sounds like a Caro "It is understood" ""truth"", but just out of interest

How would Lovett fit into our team and what would he offer, if anything ??? Can he still play to the best of his abilities or is he in genuine decline ??

If, like some of this threads posts suggest, he's a chasing the bucks and has a bit of an attitude problem, regardless of ability, wouldn't that go against what we are trying to build at Freo' FC??

I can only see this one of three ways;

1) We don't 'acquire' Lovett, we select someone else who has the chance of earning a spot in the 22.

2) We do end up with Lovett; he commands a spot in the 22 through seniority and salary, not performance and takes the place of our fresh draftees.

3) We have Lovett; he doesn't have a walk on spot and has to earn it like everybody else. Competition for spots increases drive for all players. We miss out on what it cost us to get Lovett.

If we use a PSD selection to get him and he has to earn his games I think the worst that could happen is we have a contracted player spending his last years in the WAFL, taking a spot on our list and keeping one other youngster out of development.

Now I write it, that sounds a lot like the Josh Carr situation.

Pass.

I'd preffer to take a risk on a young man with the right attitude that we can mould into the player we want over the years.

Having just read Harvey's review I note that he commented about the draft strategy but also dropped the comment, deliberate or otherwise, about the possibility of picking up a good player through the PSD.
If you only ever look at people's faults then you preclude the possiblility of them improving. We have been criticised for letting players go who developed elsewhere - thanks CC.
Lovett has some skill and pace. Can we harvest that? Sometimes you have to back yourself in. Don't just close the door on opportunity.
As an example - go back and read many of the comments on this site about Paul Duffield over the years. The kid will give our F&B a shake this year. Yet many were scathing in their comments.
If we can do it with Duff then we can do it with Lovett.
Let's not be so negative.
