Andrew Mackie from Cats

Mackie is definitely a good player. I think you'll find that he would actually take a step up if you put him in a team with lesser players IMO.

I reckon it would be the opposite, scarlett basically holds that backline together and makes the players around him look better than they are and mackie is one of those.

Wow - some ridiculous replies on here. Mackie was a high first round pick and he's done everything Geelong could have hoped.

so what. and no I don't think he's done everything they could've hoped.

settling in, on a lower pressure part of the field, after failing to succeed in more central roles is not everything.

you're just hoping he comes good for your dreamteam :D

ps. he's obviously not a bad player, but he's not a terribly interesting one either.

This may surprise you, but Geelong don't care what you think. They spent a lot to get him and he has done everything they could have asked, so they'd hardly trade him for less than they paid. You may think "he failed", but they probably don't care. Only losing a couple of games in almost three years would do that for your confidence.

I thought we traded these guys to get GAJ and Selwood?

Might I suggest Evan Hewitt and Linden Stevens?

I went to school with him when I was a kid. Went to a few Crows games in the early 1990s with him and his dad. Sunday evening games. First game I went to was a Sunday night game vs Collingwood in 1992, we lost by 5 points. Amazing crowd noise!

That took me back! My dad took me to that match. I remember it was raining, the crowd was going nuts the whole time and that for the entire last quarter we had to stand up due to everyone going crazy at the umpires and the game in general.

My mates biggest claim to fame is bowling Mackie out when Sacred Heart came over to play us (Marcellin)

Mackie got man of the Series, gun player.

ok, so you've repeated the price and continued to assert that they only ever wanted a tall running half back.

and?

Yes, I beleive there is a special honour board named after Andrew Mackie as the one who made it all possible.

incidentally, whilst ignoring the made up allegations of "failed" - seeing as you've decided that their great winning run is a validation of Mackie's value as a high draft pick. kids, today's word of the week is non-sequitur.

in 2008, the grand final year, Mackie finished 8th.
in 2007, the premiership year Mackie finished 13th in the Carji Greeves Medal (B&F).
in 2006, he did not finish in the top 11. can't find results outside of that.
in 2005

so far this year, he's not been in sparkling form so he's doing no better than previous years' you'd think.

these are not bad results, but much closer to what I actually claimed than your - super high price, did everything you could hope for.

maybe you just think people have low expectations, or that you don't really speak for the Geelong football club? :D

Luckily I was undercover. There was a scoreboard to the right of the members grandstand and the original scoreboard where it still stands today. The Aluminium seats were flat. Last game I went to with the Aluminium seating was R1, 2003 Adelaide vs Fremantle when Pavlich kicked that amazing goal. Old Football park days were good and our crowd just kept on cheering even in losses.

taking out ablett & selwood who do you think could have been a true star out of these players?

I can't see him leaving Geelong ...the fact that his girlfriend is from here and she will never move from geelong (she is a relation of a good friend of mine!)
