Toast Andrew Moore

I guess once you've got someone locked in a tackle, the idea is to sink to your knees and bring them down and roll them to the side rather than throw them around like a rag doll.

Don't change your style at all, Andrew. That's what we want to see from you.
I suppose you have a fair point.

I'd always been taught to go low and hard, leading with your shoulder, pin the arms and spin/take to ground. I thought the knee-drop technique was better suited to when you're tackling from behind, as it's much easier to avoid falling into the player's back.

Was surprised to see no players from South go to a young guy that was obviously struggling after a head knock.

Bit ordinary.

I really hope Moore breaks into the AFL soon

his career will be at the cross roads and temptation to try elsewhere must be real

Yes, poor dude was knocked senseless!

As for Moore, he is looking so fit & trimmed. Burning up the SANFL, and ready for the AFL imo ... Hope to see him in teal at some point soon!

An effective tackle has three components ...

1) Grab hold of the player between shoulder and waist.
2) Turn the player.
3) Take the player to ground.

... basically, Moore is being penalised because he tackled too well.
You forgot pinning the arms. :)

He's penalised because Cross' head hit the ground and he looked dazed afterwards. It's pure bad luck, but it's not like there's not precedent for it. If Cross had stood up and played on immediately he probably would've gotten off. If Cross had gone off on a stretcher it probably would've been 2-3 weeks. It's the nature if the current system, unfortunately. You might not like the rules, but under the rules that's a suspension every day of the week.

Scott Salisbury made a career out of the grass jumping up and knocking out his opponents.

Almost like being penalised for being strong , the South guy didn't want to go down nicely so Moorey flexed the muscles a bit . I guess it was a bit strong but I'd think a reprimand would've been sufficient

why does everyone think like this?! not every kid is a little **** like ben jacobs. and if they are that big headed then we don't want them and they will not succeed. Moore will get his chance, everyone does under Kenny. he is the man!

Yeah, Aaron Young spent 90% of last year out of the AFL side - but finally broke in for the finals and gave a bloody good account of himself. I see no reason why Moore cannot do the same.

The grass is not always greener at other clubs either - only have to look at Campbell Heath and Lewis Stevenson for that. Heath was basically on the verge of Sydney's 2012 premiership side all year, makes the move to what was considered to be a fairly weak Port Adelaide backline. Played pretty well for a while, but was eventually squeezed out due the competition for spots heating up. Sydney's half back line has been hit pretty hard with injuries ever since he left and you'd have to say he would have found himself with plenty of opportunities there! Stevenson was basically a full time emergency as well, unable to break in because Shannon Hurn pretty much does everything that he can and more. Always gave a good account of himself in the WAFL and it was a pretty reasonable expectation that he'd slot in to the half back flank position for us given our dearth of footskills at the time. Just like Heath, has found that the competition for spots is fierce and may look back and think 'what if' given that Hurn has spent the last year and a half injured.

Both guys definitely have time to turn things around - Heath especially is performing very strongly in the SANFL and Stevenson is about to return from injury, but it goes to show that fringe player at top four club =/= certain starter for a lower side. If Moore is happy on a personal level in Adelaide (nothing to suggest he isn't), then there's just as much chance that he will eventually succeed at Port Adelaide as there is of taking the first opportunity offered elsewhere. Of course there are counter examples where a change in environment and extra responsibility has been the making of players, but it's 50/50.

The slam into the ground tackles have been getting suspensions for several years now. It looks like a good tackle but the players have been told and should know better.
Gee, that tackle was well executed. Didn't look like a sling tackle and is as dangerous as any tackle going around. He rolled the player and his body but his arms were pinned so he landed on his head. I haven't seen an instance where players were reported for that. The club might challenge that.

I watched the West coast game again last night and after seeing the way Naitanui slung Kane in that tackle, then comparing it with Moore's tackle Im still shaking my head. I know one is AFL and the other SANFL, but seriously Naitanui should gone for at least 2 weeks if you compared the tackles.

I've been a critic of his for some time, but I feel today's game is worthy of praise.

With Wines out early in the game, Moore stepped up and played very well. Very happy with his performance.

Well done RossFC for bumping a thread that showed my long long term forecasting ability. :p

Good game from Moore today. He's transcended sanfl footy and now just needs to get up to AFL speed. Showed a bit today and does the one percenters with blocks and shepherds. Solid blue collar contribution.

First time he's cracked 20 disposals since 2013.

A knock on him for awhile is that he needs to get his hands on the ball more, especially for a guy playing out of the middle. Much better game, hopefully the penny has dropped, need him to keep upping his aggression at the ball too. Let's hope he can keep stepping up if Wines misses weeks with that shoulder.

Especially liked his first 5 mins - aggressive!! and first goal.

'Showed the flag' on several occasions and kept at it. May have to humbly withdraw my last weeks comments "not to be seen in a Port team again"

Not THE breakout game but with Ollie being out, this should be his time. Just grab it Moorey!!!
