You guys must be spewing with his progress.

You got him at number 2. And are playing him as a tagger. What the hell? You dont want to get a no. 2 player and have him as a tagger.

I would be spewing. HIs disposal lets him down as well.

I would be praying he improves.

Most supporters are very happy with his progess. He's still only 20, and ussually plays back, with some time in the centre, much like Luke Hodge in 2004, and look at him now. The only problem is his disposal, very ordinary, cost us a goal when he missed a 15 metre pass to Simpson but hopefully will improve that aspect of his game with confidence.

I'd be more worried about Wells, has played 70+ games. In his 4th season you'd expect him to start playing more consistently and dominate games more often, one of the most overated players in the AFL.

He shut Shannon Grant down in the second half, can't ask much more than that from the kid. If I was you, though, I would be worrying about the Kangas first pick in the 2003 draft. He continues to struggle in the VFL and probably only has one more year to prove himself before he is delisted. Also I would be worrying about the first round draft pick that was given up for Wrest Point 'Johnnie'. Sadly for the Kangas, the only young player with any talent is Daniel Wells and he only provides spasmodic input.

Be good when Walker can actually play an upfield position and not have to play back all the time.. although i think his apprenticeship might be over next year :)

Another generalisation. Walker generally has been very good this year with the run he has provided. He gets called on to do a tough job when an opposition player runs hot and suddenly everyone assumes that is all he does. When things go wrong it is all hands on deck and your normal game can go out the window. Walker is not exempt from this. Fortunately Pagan played him in defence and in midfield tagging roles much to the disappointment of many of our supporters. Now we see that Walker is capable of running lines and providing great rebound but also have a defensive side where he can nullify any opposition player. Kudos to Walker and kudos for Pagan for teaching him the lessons he needed to learn.

His kicking really is bad!!!! The rest of his game is good to real good but he undoes his good work and breaking lines with his kicking:mad:

Agreed.
His kicking is actually almost pitiful for AFL standards, i can't be bothered looking up the stats but if he is not leading the comp in clanger kicks i will be most suprised.

but he needs to kick better. It's a serious issue in his game ... why hasn't he improved in that aspect?

A VERY VERY GOOD POINT, and it shows a glaring problem that may not be Pagan's fault coz he's a faultless coach, aint he? But, the problem is thus: OUR SKILLS COACHES AREN'T VERY GOOD AT COACHING SKILLS. Simple.

One extreme to the other Shlomo. Just because you get called on starting thread after thread about Pagan, you decide to pout and be sarcastic instead. It's all pretty transparent, not to mention a giant yawn.

imo walkers longer kicking to position has improved this year but it's his kicking to a target over 20-30 which is garbage.

I would be more worried about your own list which is terrible, by the time you actually get some young talent, the likes of Harvey, Grant, thommo will be too old.

Walker is getting better, no doubt. Almost kicked a ripper runnin goal from 50 - he's got some touch about him, but he needs to kick better. It's a serious issue in his game ... why hasn't he improved in that aspect?

I'd be more worried if he wasn't getting the ball Thrawn. The fact that he is getting the ball and backing his run and pace is a good thing. I think he needs one more preseason under his belt and we should start seeing better things from Walker.

This thread was not about my list it was about Walker. Having said that you can not doubt Wells performance last night. He was the cleanest player on the field. Our second best player by far. This year has been far better from him as well, more consistent. Everyone sees him as overated because he got these big raps etc, but the problem is he is playing to instruction. If Dean Laidely would let him run free and say do what you want Wells, we would see alot more individual brillance. In saying that he played a fantastic game.

Yes we are all dissapointed about Trotter, Pick 9 and has shown nothing yet. But given no real oppurtuinity. Over the years our early picks have been awful which is hurting us badly now. Our later picks have been okay though.

Murphy for Trotter? lol

no one gives a fcuk what you think idiot. i read your original post and you were having a crack at walker who last night kept harvey quiet and then stopped grant who looked like he was going to kick about 8 goals.

You say Wells is restricted because he is playing to instruction, well you should know so is Walker. If Walker was allowed to run free you would see the same results.I reckon next year the reigns will be let go

You are kidding right. Harvey played his best game for the year. Did well on Grant, towards the end and was lucky Grant didnt kick str8 and make him look worse.

Yes i was having a crack at Walker because i dont think he is delivering.

dont go for the blues but looks like he will be a top player in the afl in years to come. shows he can shut down players. we all know that simon goodwin shut down dal santo and he was excellent. great player IMO. has pace and now is learning how the best do it, when pagan lets him go watch out for this kid. I DEFINTLY would NOT be spewing over his progress looks to be a gun and is progressing very well, we now know he can play tall from his performance on croad. GREAT PROSPECT.

Now you are leaving the realms of discussion and leaning towards mischief making. Someone says they don't support the Blues and think Walker is progressing well and you are basically calling them dishonest. You make claims about Walker, the least of which was his disposal. His disposal most agree with but his progression we do not.

I note you are not now answering points made by others in the spirit of debate. You defend Wells because he is playing a role set by the coach but do not afford the same respect to Walker who is fast becoming our Mr Fix-It, which in itself is a huge mark of respect by Pagan.

Who would have thought when Croad was ripping Whitnall apart earlier in the season, that Walker would be the player to shut him down? Prior to that he had only played close on running players. We now know he is versatile, can run, can play tall and athletic, can run off his opponent ... if that isn't progress compared to last season and beyond, I don't know what is. He is obviously a more confident player than he was before and he is starting to position himself more.

I have seen Walker deliver pinpoint passes into the forward line this year too but he is prone to kicking a few clangers. The fact he can kick well sometimes probably shows he has a flaw in his style on the run that he can correct.

Walker shows every sign of being a mercurial Jared Brennan type with his pickups and backing himself, which is why Pagan is trying to force feed him on the discliplined game.

When Walker has made defensive skills a permanent habit, Pagan will release him so his offensive side can come to the fore. I'm pretty confident Walks will go from strength to strength. My only fear is that he feels lost in the ranks as Murphy gets all the attention. From what I have heard, Walker will appreciate not being in the limelight though, so he can quietly go about developing his game further without as many expectations.

Walks is developing nicely, and will a midfield gun for many seasons to come.

:o

I have no problems with hearing opposition supporter's opinions on this board, but please, get your facts right before you come in here.

Maybe his poor kicking at times ,has something to do with being left handed and right footed, his right hand isnt as effective when it comes to dropping the ball.
