I went to Bakers Delight this morning to get a couple of things and was shocked when as soon as the girl saw me she said, "a custard scroll?"

I hadn't ordered yet but she pre-empted what I was going to purchase which displeased me. I have ordered that maybe 3 times but now I feel like I'm the "custard scroll girl"

The same thing happened a couple of months ago when I went to a cafe and ordered a muffin. Well now every time I walk past, this woman pulls it out before I order.

A couple of years ago I was going through a Flake Shake phase from Wendys and this girl didn't only assume I was going to order that, but she proceeded to make it.

Well I decided to throw her off and say, well no actually I want an icecream. But deep down I really wanted that Flake shake.

I hate this, why can't they just wait for me to order. I don't want to be labelled when I go to a shop. Can't they just pretend they haven't seen me before.

Needless to say, I will not be going back to that Bakers Delight again.

It might sound petty but it freaks me out!!!!

I think you have some type of phobia......maybe "preemptmyorderaphobia":p

"Norm!"

No, I love that ****. Makes me feel as if my life is a TV show. Next thing you know i'll walk in the pub and the whole place will exclaim "Norm!"

It ocassionally gets me down, like when i was a regular at my local noodle shop and I felt bad ordering anything other than veg-satay (because she'd usually already written it up before I got to the counter).

But, at the moment the dudes at the Curry shop near work know me so well they give me discounts. Massive discounts.

At the local BiLo one of the deli dept girls calls me the salad lady because I buy salads from there regularly. I don't have a problem with it and we laugh about it. I think it's good to get to know people at the shops because it makes shopping fun. If they were presuming what I was going to get and I didn't want that I would tell them.

Well I am one of these "anoying shop assistants", now I only get that way if the customer does one of two things.

1.Bitches to me like I made the food, my response is then to patronise them and suggest they try else where. This will then mean that I ignore them next time they come in.

2.Bitches to me like I own the store, see above for my response.

What people need to realise is were getting minimal pay, we probally have to stay up the rest of the night to study so leave us alone. You dont like what you get you go somewhere else, you dont like the service you go somewhere else.
Furthermore Im not getting paid enough care about your life hence I'm never going to say "How are you" and my closing comment to you will be bye.

I hear ya!

I hate shop assistants that speak like a robot "Hello, how are you?" and "Have a nice day"

Sure it's polite and thats probably what they are tought to say, but you can't tell me that they really give a toss about your life.

I quite enjoy it when hot assistant girls help me pick clothes whenever I go shopping.

But I really hate the chocolate bar Nazis at Shell Convenience Stores. I buy a bottle of coke and slam it on the counter and say 'thats all thanks'. Somehow the 'thats all thanks' never registers in their brain and they always without fail ask me 'would you like 2 cadbury bars for the price of 1'.

Exactly my manager got on my back for not saying that.
I informed him people dont want to hear that, they find it anoying and baseless..

:p

Funny that you mention Robot people.
There is this guy at the post office.

And it is like he is programmed or something.

Its like this..

"Hello, How may I help you"

"Ahh I would like to pay for these bills, $50 off this and $120 off that"

"Yes I can help you with that" (like he is programmed?)

"That will be $170 thanks"

"Here is your receipt. If you like you can use this stampler to stample the receipt to your bills" (at this point he motions the stapler towards me with interest.

I then use the stapler and he says "Thanks for using Australia Post, have a nice day!"

Scary Bloke. All his movements are like a robot too....

Its a lot worse when every friggin customer ask you that. WTF am I supposed to say? "Busy as hell, p*ssed off with management and want all customers to die".

I like it when shops I go to regularly remember what I want.

I go to a particular Subway often, and always get the same sub, and they always remember what toppings I want.

I also work at a bar, and there are a few regulars there, and I don't even have to ask them what they want, they approach the bar, we have the tribal 'nod of the head' exchange, and off I go to make the drink.

I too don't mind if the employee in question is an attractive girl, as there's nothing wrong with chatting to a hot chick. With the girl asking Hurricane75 for a 'custard scroll', she is probably trying to do what she is expected to do in being nice except in another way.

Annoying, arseh*le customers are what annoy me. Please, show so manners and do get so agravated.

I work on checkouts sometimes and I forgot to ask a guy for his Fly Buys. Anyway, I put his credit card through to pay for what he was buying and by the stage he hadn't realised that he hadn't given me the Fly Buys card it was too late because the transaction had already been processed. Next, he says 'Can I put the Fly Buys though?", I tell him that it is too late to do it via the scanner but I could write it down manually. All of a sudden he goes, 'Well how ****en' stupid is that' and as I passed him the validation slip for him to sign he comes out with, 'I'm not ****en' singing that, **** off', so I said, 'Fine don't sign it, I don't care, it will be transacted anyway'. He walked off and complained about me, however my supervisor came over to me and said not to worry about him because he is a serial complainer.

Oh and another story, a few weeks ago I stopped a couple who tried to walk out of the store with a trolley full of stuff (after security told me about the couple and previous incidents), anyway I stopped them and the guy started screaming abuse at me, like, 'You are ****in' idiot, why would you take orders from these ****heads, go get ****ed you ****er' etc etc. Anyway the lady said that that they just wanted to go to the service desk to complain and thats where they were going. I refused to let them out until she asked me to escort them to the service desk with the trolley (which I did), so they could complain about security. She told the Store Manager that there are 'apparently there two other women who look exactly like me who have stolen stuff from here before and I'm being victimised', and this and that. It turns out that this couple has stolen tens ouf thousands of dollars worth of stuff.

And you start to wonder why some service stuff don't look very happy sometimes, and act a bit like robots, it is because of arseh*le customers.

Sorry about being off topic, but you should be thankful if you get that kind of service, they are only being nice.

Ok after reading all these comments I think I should give these people a break.

I guess you guys have to deal with a lot of crap everyday.

I can only imagine how difficult some customers can be.

Are they just trained to ask the same questions regardless of the order?

One of my mates went to KFC at 8pm one night to buy dinner for his large family. The store was empty. He orders:

2 buckets of chicken
3 large chips
2 large coleslaws
2 large potato and gravys

What does the shop assistant ask?

"Will this be eat in or take away?"

Yeah, I tend to be somewhat embarrassed going to the same fast-food outlets all the time, because I *always* get a special order. I don't like mustard or pickles on hamburgers so I always order without them.

So I'm sure that the fast food vendors in Highpoint are probably sick of my face, my voice, and my "ketchup only".

Which leads me to another problem: I have an accent.

It's funny; I would have thought mine would be just about the easiest one to understand, considering all the US pop culture bombarding you, but it is funny how many people still ask me three or four times what I want. Does it catch that many people off guard?

OMG that is so funny that you say that.

When I go to McDonalds I always order my quarter pounder without pickles and mustard. I can see them rolling their eyes as i get closer.

At Hungry Jacks I order my cheeseburger "ketchup only".

Same LOL maybe they should just stop making damn burgers without this crap.

And to top it off, you have to wait about five minutes for them to make the "special" burger.

There's a very easy solution to this problem - make them all plain, and add toppings as people order them. It's not difficult!

Nor practical or cost effective.

I don't mind if they say "how are you" and be genuinely pleasant but I hate the ones who take too much of an interest, "busy day?", "got much planned for the weekend" etc.

I don't think I've copped "have a nice day" in this country, I hope I never do.

Gotta love discounts!!!

I became quite friendly with a chick that works at my favourite cd store...and cos i used to buy lots of stuff from there every week she'd give me some pretty crazy discounts!!! Like 40-50 dollars off the stuff i bought.
Gotta love that!

Personally, I find making small talk with hairdressers a bit of a chore. You can only talk about what you are doing, or have done, on your weekend for so long.

There have been times when I've ordered my "special" burger and its taken them 3 times before they get it right.

They can keep all their burgers with weird stuff in it, but they should also offer a plain burger with sauce sachets so you can add what you want.

Really shouldn't a cheese burger only be cheese and meat. Although I do like my ketchup.
