If we trade Stenglein then we don't have a big enough tagger for the likes of Hird, Voss and Buckley. As good a tagger as Shirley is, he is not big enough for the ones I was reffering to.

It would have to be something bloody good for us to let Stenglein go.

Realistically, Bode is the only one we can trade that has some trade value.

Bode and someone/something else to Richmond for Pick 6 I know I am dreaming:o

Stiffy, Voss and Bucks kill us everytime anyway, Stinger or no Stinger.

I say, if it improves the team, there's no reason why we should hold onto Stinger like he's the next Hentschel. Drive a hard bargain sure, but don't be afraid to do a deal if it's there.

And yes, you are dreaming Stiffy, probably like I am!

Stiffy, I'm so pumped for this weekend's game. It's almost as if the Crows are playing.

Carn the Lions!

Would have though Dogga would be up for trade too.

And he probably will be as they haven't finished the player reviews by a long way yet.

I would think there'd be between 6 and 10 names on the trade list by the time they're finished, bearing in mind that they are only options being put to the market at this stage and all won't happen.

As long as we don't overreact.

If it was up to me I would trade to get as many top 25 picks as possible. My gut feeling tells me that we will once again trade 1st round pick to get another quick fix :(

Get your facts straight. Johnson was always going, Carey or no Carey.

He was homesick and made it quite clear he wanted out at the end of the 2002.

Johnson was always going...

Who could forget draft day in 1995 when he and Brent Williams both sat together in tears at the thought of going over to play with the laughing stock of the league.

We were lucky enough to get 7 seasons out of him - he always wanted to leg it home. Miracle he stayed that long.

In three words: Dave is correct.

There was no question that Johnson was never going to stay on. As dyertribe said he stayed for 7 years which was pretty good. We probably traded him while he was at his peak as far as trading value goes.

We got a fair deal from Richmond but we screwed up in a trade with the Kangaroos.

There is no doubt that we missed Kane's toughness, ability to use the ball under the pressure and just his class.

Hopefully Reilly steps up in 2004 and helps ease that loss.

No he won't Stiffy, because he is a totally different type of player.

In the modern day vernacular, Reilly is an "outside" wingman, while Johnson was an inside "on-baller" - a genuine hard nut who could win the 50-50 hard ball.

Bode and Bickley took up that role this year, but Bicks has now retired, and with Bode a chance to be traded, we could be a bit light in this area.

On the other hand, hopefully Reilly develops into a real running machine on the wing, because he is a beautiful disposer of the ball.

I would think that our draft selections would include an 'inside" on-baller - but not as #1 priority.

When I said that hopefully Reilly offsets some of that loss I was refering more to Johnsons ability to use the ball and hit a leading forward on the chest. I see Reilly as being capable of helping ease the loss of Johnson in that department. Reilly in time might develop into an onballer but for the time being he is an outside player with a a beautiful kick

Just had a phone call from an inside contact at the AFC.

As you probably know, they are in the process of doing a review with each player of theirseason and future prospects.

Ladhams, Bode and Gallagher have all been told so far that they will be up for trade.

If they don't end up being traded, Ladhams and Bode are safe to stay on the list IMO, but I think that Gags would be at great risk of being delisted.
 Very surprised that Dogga hasn't be told he's up for trade. I'm sure he is too. Last time I spoke the guy, he thought he was gone. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if the AFC tell him this week especially since I don't think he has renewed his contract yet. :(

Yes, Shannon is the one who has been around a while but can't cement a spot. I don't know why though, he was in stellar form in early 2003.

Daniel is the younger one who's supposed to be the next big thing.

I like the idea of trading for Shannon Motlop as well. He could prove a very handy goal sneak. Burns only has a year or so left and Johncock will move into the middle.

Shannon is now mid 20's and has never really consistantly stepped up to the mark since the '99 GF. Otoh, Junior has the class and talent in spades....... as he's been given more games this year he's improved outa' site.

In last weeks VFL prelim against the Box Hill Hawks Shannon kicked a couple of giant goals in the last quarter but apart from that he didn't do much, which has been pretty much par for the course over the year. Just flashes in and out, can be brilliant but only in occasional bursts.

We'd be happy to trade him.

Motlop sounds similar to Doughty (if North are interested?) then. Both in their mid 20s, have shown a bit, but have struggled to hold down a spot.

A straight swap sounds fair. At worst you lose nothing and gain nothing. At best the recruited player steps up given a second chance in a new environment.

I wouldn't under-rate Reilly's ability to go in for the hard ball, as he doesn't lack courage. He is no Roo, but he will go in harder than the likes of Ladhams.

The guy we were really missing at times this year with his clearances was Stinger, as his form really dropped off. I agree with Stiffy that we should not be trading him, as we don't have another tall midfielder like him.

Forget the Motlop guy. He will be 24/25 next year and can't break into the Kangaroos side, how can he break into our side??????

I would rather keep Doughty or trade him for a draft pick. Better off taking a punt on a youngster.

I think he will be very good. Realistically who can match up Adam Goodes?????? Imagine his game style but the size of Matthew Clarke. Can you tell me who could possibly match up on him once he develops.

I'll stake my reputation on it and say I would do it;)

I'm risking the ire of Adelaide supporters by saying Laurence Angwin. He's played ruck-rover with us and he's a darn freak, needs more muscle though but Bradley is similar to Angwin in many ways.

At least that in some way vindicates the decision to draft him at #7.

Here's the deal: Goodwin,Bode and Doughty for Melbourne's pick 5,White and Green...............................you anit having Burton, Green isnt that good:rolleyes:

Fair deal I reakon..........you could change Doughty to Gallagher if you wanted to hold onto Doughty instead;)

As tempting as it is I wouldn't do that. I rate Goodwin, Bode and Doughty but pick 5, Jeff White and Brad Green could get us a hell of a lot more than that.

The deal is White, Green + Pick 5 for Goodwin, Burton and Bode otherwise we'll talk to Carlton about Whitnall ;)

On Luke Williams, Melbourne supporters rubbish him but he is a handy player who's transformed himself from Brad Green/Chris Heffernan like softness into one of the hardest at it players at the club. He's only lightly framed and won't intimidate a Mark Ricciuto but his attack on the footy has improved 500%. He's fairly versatile, can play an attacking half back role, can play as a stopper on the oppositions best small forward and even go forward and be the small forward himself. He was one of our best against you guys earlier in the year playing as almost a CHF. You could do a lot worse than make a move for him.

Yeah, sure is.

Glad he is no longer at AFC & hope we don't waste another early pick on a fruitcake next time around.
