Being in Perth never get to see this guy, but at 21 and as a strong marking forward, would he be a decent late pick in this draft if he nominates?? Given the depth of this years draft he would be better as a late pick if he lasts, hard to ignore his continual output, probably one of the main reasosn why Sellar isn't getting game time in the senior side

Re: Another week of goals for Grima

Put my hand up for some good spelling, golas to be translated as goals.

I think he may slip through to a late pick as many of the other clubs will be looking at the range of talent. But with Walker, Henschtel, Tippett and add to that the Gill's and Sellar's on the edges, it could be a great forward structure

Definitely worth a late pick or mature aged rookie listing.

Wasn’t he on Geelong’s rookie list last year or the year before so becoming a mature age rookie listed player is no longer an option? As i understand the rule, that bylaw is only available for players who have never been drafted (rookie or senior) before.

I get the feeling they may have changed that rule in the last 12 months or so for some reason?

You're certainly correct that was originally the rule.

Vic Crow?

It would be nice if the AFL made the AFL PA CBA easier to access. The bylaw would be in the CBA but i cannot be ****ed looking for it at the moment.

I think he was one of Geelongs best players in their reserves last season.
Then i think port were meant to pick him up as a rookie player but didnt.

Ive seen him play a bit, but dont think he will become anything special
Probably worth a team like Melbourne picking up with a late pick. But i'd rather go with youth.

What is it that makes you think he won't make it? His work rate is apparently pretty good, does he have good hands and good speed?

I didnt say i didnt think he would make it, i said i dont think he will become anything special, or else Geelong would have keeped him.
If the crows want to be an average team then go for him, if we want to become the best we have to recruit better players than Grima.

Mature Aged players can now be rookie listed provided they have never played an AFL game. A sensible change to the rule, which previously stated that they must never have been on an AFL list.

However, at 21 years of age, he's probably still young enough to qualify for the standard rookie rule.

But will the Crows select him? It's not like we've been short of opportunities to do so in the past. We had him over for a pre-draft trial ahead of the pre-season draft a few years back, but we opted to go with Jason Porplyzia instead (no complaints about THAT decision). He spent time on Geelong's rookie list, before they let him go at the end of last year despite having been one of the leading goal scorers in the VFL. Another chance to draft him and ... nada. Now he's done well in the SANFL, will the Crows opt to take him in 2008? 3rd time lucky?

He doesnt have anything exceptional about him which you need to be successful in the AFL.

Thats hilarious!

McGregor?
Perrie?
Robran?

Certainly nothing "exceptional" about any of them yet have each had success. Ive seen Grima play a number of games for the Bays this year and he would be a very handy pick up. Can take a strong grab and kick straight, we could do a lot worse than picking him up. (See the 3 previous mentioned CHF's/hacks)

I'm pretty sure he left Geelong's VFL team because
A) he'd spent the 2 years on their rookie list and they didn't need to upgrade him cos of Ablett/Hawkins &
B) He wanted to play at Central Districts with his 2 brothers.

But since they both got picked up in the draft, he went to Bays instead. We should've had 3 Grima's there. :'(

If he's a rookie list chance, I say go for it. If he's on for the main list, then it's touch-and-go on whether we take him. Maybe the PSD (but I'm hoping Adam Thomson is available there)?

I think 1-2 mature age players (especially talls who are very speculative when younger) can play a good role in drafting strategy, at the right time and for the right reason.

IMO the stars align for Grima this year.

To continue our list management (which is meant to be aggressive come the end of the year) we need to again have quite a few picks to continue getting our age balance right, and have plenty of picks in a good draft prior to the new teams. However, this will be our second year in a row with heaps of draft picks (and hence a large pool of youth). I reckon 1-2 'ready to go' players who are still youngish would mitigate this risk.

Specifically, our biggest short-term cloud is over our taller forwards who are comprised of injury-prone players, those with potential but still developing, and a couple hacks who will hopefully be delisted. Grima has the physique, dominates SANFL, and has previous AFL-list experience.

Worth the punt if still available come our 7th or even 8th pick.
