yes Thats what I read too,
But I imagine it would be easy to join but hard process to leave.

Think easier not to be part of it all together in the first place.
probably has a $2 billion dollar exit penalty

What a sad sad couple of days for people on either side of the political spectrum.

Albo has seen his chance after the Bondi attacks to control the masses further and jumped on the opportunity.

These laws have been a disaster in the UK and will do exactly what it’s done for Reform UK to One Nation.

I see the crackers are out in full force declaring free speech in Australia to be dead without explaining exactly what they want to say that's now banned.
I’d imagine there are many contentious topics potentially unable to be publicly “debated” anymore.

I’ve got no issues with punishment for hate speech but I don’t think young adults should be spending years in prison for hot headed tweets to 30 followers with zero real threat.

Marque Lawyers gotta be one of the more ignorant people on the planet.

Not surprising that's where you get your opinions from.
You're getting more medusala by the minute, minus the class and including the dummy spits.

Trump threatens 200% tariffs on French wines and champagnes after Macron rejects 'peace board' invite, escalating Greenland dispute tensions

I wonder what Tarriffs trump will impose on us if Albanese rejects the peace board offer.
Who cares - we barely trade with the USA

What is good for some now, may not be good for you later (under a different say more right wing government).

depending on who takes offense, it looks like things are going the way of whats happened in Britain.

Potentially criticism of anything against the government narrative.

Criticism of mass immigration - someone takes offense, get a knock on the door.

say free Palestine from the river to the sea, someone takes offense, potentially get a knock at the door.
Palestine action group could get listed as a prohibited group.

Tony Burke gets to label prohibited groups, who doesn't Tony Burke like? Does he want to use this to come after Australia First Influencers?

Politically....this could be a way for uni-party (Lib/Lab) to shut down One Nation before they begin and lock in the existing parties.

Just trawl over their candidates social media posts, find someone who takes offense to something they posted and lock them up until after the election.

Defending someone's right for protest and free speech does not mean we are advocating for them.

We saw overstepping ministerial powers when Novak got deported and banned for two years.

I get that Novak is not popular but him posing a national public order threat was fantasy

I don't love the laws either but the cookers might find themselves taken a bit more seriously of they didn't catastrophise everything which happens that they don't agree with.

This. Hate speech is determined by the government in power at the time.

The enforcement of the law would look vastly different under the greens compared to one nation for arguments sake.

I think from the Aus govt perspective Novak had to be shut down.

As he inspired people to not just blindly follow the government advice, particular if they had already been exposed to covid, as natural imunity.
Novak was fracturing the solidarity among those who had taken it and the government narrative that you had to take the vaccine.

He was treated harshly.

That he would rather not take the vaccine, and miss grand slams and risk losing the GOAT status and finish behind Federer and Rafa for the choice of protecting his body from possible vaccine side effects.

Its awesome that he became the Goat anyway.

How does Albanese fix social cohesion. Look after the problems you are supposed to be fixing as the sitting government that are effecting people daily, plus do things now that will help future Aussies.
  • Reduce National debt
  • Maybe make some cuts to government spending
  • Tax resources more
  • Review education system

Why doesn't he have a bill to correct the economy and make cost of living easier for Australians.
Fix the everyday concerns for Australians, give them a chance to get ahead and there would be less stress.
- Food, power, housing cost of living rising, wages not rising as fast, everyone is just getting angry.

that's right. There are people in prison in the UK for opposing the genocide in Palestine under their version of these laws.

Does Sonia Kruger deserve prison time for her opinion?
Not under the new legislation because hate speech against Muslims is still allowed coz that’s a religion.

what about Eddie McGuire :) that would be funnier. Adam goodes took offense.

Thinking about what Rankine said, imagine an AFL player gets thrown in jail and misses finals, due to something said.

I don’t think that’s what the law says.
I haven't been following it too closely, but on the radio last night I understood that one of the reasons the Greens didn't support the bill was because Muslims, not being a race, aren't protected.

Happy to be corrected, but whoever the commentator was (political correspondent from the Fin Rev, from memory) was pretty clear about that.

I believe that’s in regards to reciting religious texts

more specifically not being thrown in jail for quoting the quran (which may contain verses that could breach the new laws)
I don't believe other religious texts have these issues.

The bible contains a lot of hateful content.
