i dont know which one will take off

personally i dont expect him to be scott burns, but i also dont entirely like him being in our best 22

As a neutral watching the game if you guys are saying Corrie is soft because Milne kicked that goal where Corrie overran the ball, that is a silly comment.

He did the right thing by attacking the ball and copped a bad bounce. If he keeps doing that for the rest of his career he'll be fine in that aspect of his game.

Fair dinkum you lot sleep with the light on

Like the schoolyard bully always targetting the weak :thumbsd:
So we're targetting Corrie.
You say that is like us being a bully targetting the weak.
So you just said Corrie is weak.
Real big of you mate, would you say that to his face?

Can I ask why Corrie is an easier target than anyone else?

It's an internet forum....they're all as easy to criticise than each other.

Could it possibly be that I just don't think he's a good player? Maybe?

Ryan Lonie pulled on the Collingwood jumper and had an AFL career

Hands up anyone else?

Anyone?

Anyone?
dude jokes relax i liked lonie until he suffered injuries and then he just couldnt get back

Smiddaz is the Collingwood version of ME!

I was telling people "you clearly don't watch {insert my team} play" and putting idiotic opposition quotes in my signature before Smiddaz even know what the internet was.

Thanks for posting these motivational pictures Opti.

Ego boosts galore tonight, now I don't have to cry myself to sleep.

I probably need to watch that section of play again. I remember it as he was the only one who presented and I didn't really blame Stanley because it was his only option because no-one else presented. I stand by everything else I said. I'm not saying Corrie had a great game just that to call for his head after two senior matches is stupid and unfair. Also the fact he cost us nothing means that regardless of whether he fails for us we havn't lost anything.

Quicky,

As an economist I've got to introduce you to an economic term called opportunity cost - thats the opportunity you give up when you take another opportunity.

In this case in picking up Corrie we've forfeited the opportunity of adding someone else to the list who very well might have been a gem long term.

Thats a genuine cost.

As to being "knee-jerk" and "reactionary" in relation to Monday night, it was a totally disgraceful perfromance so much so that it entered the record books as our greatest losing margin against St Kilda. However the motivation for my thread was not only the events of Monday night but our entire season so far. Simply the selection of Corrie is indicative that the club is in a sorry state at present. But then again what would I know as I have only been going to Collingwood games since 1967!

You were being knee jerk and reactionary saying that Corrie needed to be sacked after only two performances. Especially to single out an individual when the whole team was garbage.

You say the motivation for the thread was the clubs performance in the season so far, all I saw in your OP was an unwarranted attack on a single player when he's only played two games for the club. Here is what you said:

No wonder Brisbane were happy to take National Draft selection 93 for Anthony Corrie last year. He is totally gutless and if he can get a game at Collingwood then that is a total indictment on the Malthouse and the rest of the so-called coaching panel. He is a disgrace and should never wear the black and white jumper again. End of story.

Now don't get me wrong i'm not saying Corrie is a star. I'm not even saying he is in our best 22. In fact I wasn't even agreeing that he deserved selection in the NM game after his performances in the twos because I didn't agree with it at the time. Hell i'm not even saying that he deserves selection after last weeks performance (thats a 50-50 proposition IMO).

All i'm saying is that his performance wasn't as bad as you've made out (especially when you consider his role in the team); that to call for him to get the sack after two performances is ridiculous and unfair (i'd love to see how you justify this??); and at the end of the day if he proves a failure at Collingwood or not who cares because he essentially cost us nothing anyway.

You're singling out Corrie and making him the fall guy for the clubs bad season which is a totally ridiculous premise and grossly unfair.

True but it works both ways. In giving up the opportunity to recruit Corrie we could equally have given up the opportunity of recruiting a gem. Which one was the greater risk?? I'm not sure. The article you posted on rookie picks gives some food for thought. Corrie was a proven performer who also had up-side. He at the very least gives good depth and at 24 addresses both an age gap on the list and has the potential to play at the club for many years. Considering the draft we had and the rookies we ended up getting I don't think it was a mistake to recruit Corrie.

You will when he's delisted in a year or two ...

I've already pointed out the fallacy of that.

I think Corries symptamatic of the failure of MM and all those at Collingwood and represntative of where the club is currently it.

Its not corries fault, its MM and the clubs, firstly for picking him up and secondly from playing him when he never should have been.

L Browns another.

I posted that before i'd read your post.

I also pointed out that it works both ways.

It's a bit presumptious to say that Corrie will be delisted in two years. Who knows how his career at Collingwood will pan out.

I explained in my above post why a believe it was not a bad decision of the club to recruit Corrie and I think the logic is pretty sound. You ignored my points there.

On his inclusion in the team I didn't agree with it against NM but he vindicated the decision with a very good performance. On that performance he deserved a game against the Saints. Whether he vindicated his inclusion against the Saints probably not but that works for alot of the rest of the team as well (not that this is an excuse).

On Leigh Brown I think there were different circumstances. I don't believe he should ever have been recruited. Brown for starters is too old and has shown that he is not up to a good AFL standard at two previous clubs. I don't see any of his attrubutes to be particularly high at an AFL level. Very much a stop gap recruitment and one that better illustrates some of our poor recruiting over the last decade than what Corrie does.

On Corrie he is younger and has shown attributes that are AFL level. He has good pace, generally good skills, he breaks the lines and is a tidy finisher in front of goal. The circumstances of his delisting were also different from Browns where he was the casualty of a new approach by a new coach at his club. Corries criticisms are largely revolved around his attitude an issue we have had some success in rectifying in players in the past. Medhurst is an example of this.

I don't see Corries recruitment as a bad decision. His addition to the list had at the very least the same probability of paying off if we had recruited someone instead with this pick and probably more.
