As our 1-3 year players started training yesterday I find it a little strange that the club is still to confirm changes to the primary and rookie list prior to Friday's deadline.

To my knowledge we haven't confirmed the status of the 4 players on the rookie list or the re-signing of out of contract players outside of the 10 who were confirmed earlier this month.

They did some tests and measurements yesterday when the players returned.

Probably have one more training session on Wednesday/Thursday of this week I'd think. They'll probably have a look at the tests to ensure all fringe players and rookies they are considering keeping have returned in good shape, then make announcements to the players of further cuts then, only likely to be rookie list players, then tell the media and us.

Not sure. Closed sessions (as much as Punt Road can be) I would think, emp.

Yes I wouldn't of though that would become public knowledge. I'm sure one of the esteemed posters on here will have something about which players had too many burger rings and beers over the break :p

You would expect Cartledge, Sylvester and Howat to be released and Collard to be retained on the rookie list (if he turned up to training in-shape)...

That leaves us with only 3 picks in the last uncompromised draft for 3-4 seasons.

If this playing group doesn't develop we could have some serious depth issues once Richo, Bowden, Johnson, Brown & Simmonds retire.

I think we should have been more ruthless in our delistings (eg. King, Graham, JON) and one of Bowden or Johnson should have been given the nudge to go gracefully.

This may have left a hole in our 2009 list but would have given us a group of youngsters below our current crop that can be developed.

Pettifer is another story as the club may feel that if we are going to pay him we may as well retain him on the list (similar to Rory Hilton in 2005).

We will also almost certainly lose Polak who will not be replaced.

With Wallace under pressure there may have been a reluctance to plan for the future knowing that anything less than finals would see his demise.

As for the Rookie List I'm hoping that we look at players in the 18-20 YO bracket rather than older players like Howat, Cartledge, Humm, King etc..

Collard better start working on his weight...has arrived at training in terrible condition

Any more info than that?

Was worried that would happen. I hope you are being a bit dramatic with the "terrible" description but it wouldn't surprise me. :(

If that's the case then he needs to be cut...

Throw him in the pile with McGrath, Peterson & Gilmour.... There's probably a few others that I can't think of at the moment.

We have a great track record at straightening these blokes out

Is this the finally list lodgement we can make?? can we delist more players after the National draft???

I can see us taking 3 kids in The ND... then soughting out the list after that, before the PSD and rookie draft.

I can guarentee Jake King won't be delisted. He was sensational for us in his 1st year and I wouldn't delist him off the back of a few injuries in '08 (his 2nd year). He has a heap to offer.
Would keep Joel Bowden 'cos he is a gun and won a few games for us this year with his smart football brain and experience.
As for Kane Johnson. He was pretty good this year too so can't see him being given the nudge gracefully. I think you'll find he is that important to us that he may even be our Captain this year!

Before people jump on Collards back, lets wait and see if what he says is true.

Some people just love to stir trouble

i think we should give it to a young guy and let them have it for the years to come. or we could give it to newman. he would be the best option for next year. but i hope kane passes it down to let one of the younger guys have it.

Considering he's an elite sportsman, and he was on the chubby side at seasons end anyway, he wouldn't have had to have put too much on to be looking pretty out of shape..comparatively.

AFL players need to sustain a carb loaded diet, with heaps of protein and energy. If this is not coupled with consistent exercise, players blow out. You see it all the time in newly retired players, a year or so out of the game. If Collard hasn't modified his regular season diet whilst he has been off training, it wouldn't take much at all for him to be looking overweight again.

Heard a rumour today that Pettifers knee is worse than first thought and he has had to undergo a second operation. The same person also told me that it is likely that Petts will be added to the delistings by Friday.

I can also guarantee that King won't get delisted, he signed a new contract earlier this month. I think the club made the wrong decision and that at his age he won't improve and will continue to get found out as a small defender.

Bowden had a disappointing season. He is the the wrong side of 30 and may have 1-2 seasons remaining. He did save his season with some strong performances against Port and Brisbane but he won't be getting any better.

Johnson is a one-paced footballer who looks sideways and backwards before he moves the ball on. Very similar to Cameron Ling in 2005 & '06. Is good enough to cut it at AFL level but needs to become an elite tagger or rediscover some run to demand a starting spot in our midfield.
