The amount of time it takes for the umpire to bounce the ball after a goal is kicked!!!

Sometimes everyone would be waiting for the umpire to bounce, and the ump would be standing there for 2 or 3 minutes. I know this is for the commercials breaks but this year seems to take way longer than usual. It really makes me angry as i believe it slows down momentum.

Anyone else notice that?

Don't know what was goin on there. The red light was flashing but there was no action. On one occassion I reckon the red light went off 1 minute before the bounce.

Yeah I noticed this as well last night.

Is it perhaps because of Channel 7's practice of showing a replay before they go to an ad break? Not sure, but does it take as long at game's that are being televised by Channel 10 (who go straight to an ad break after a goal is kicked)?

I'm pretty sure the umpires have to wait for a bright light to flash from the broadcast area before they can bounce the ball to show that the ads and replays have finished.

Compared to Channel 7 games, Channel 10 games are considered lighting quick.

There used to be a remark going around that the umpire would wait until he saw a red light of a camera to bounce the ball. I cannot remember how long ago I heard that or where it was from I think it may have been from The Sunday Footy show one year.

Yes, which indicates the telecase is back from the ad break... but because channel 7 shows replays before their ad breaks, which at times seem longer anyway, we at the game have to wait longer for play to get under way again. (Or so it seems).

That's cos Channel 7 showed a replay, and two ads. The umps had to wait for the telecast to restart.

At the Saints v Cats game last night they had the same delayed wait to pay GA Jr a free kick after a goal was scored .

When you are watching the game on free to air that delay is a blessing when they chock the ads in . At least you dont miss any of the game .
