Has anyone else noticed that since grif has been in the side the crows form has sky rocketed because tippett can now just concentrate on being a forward. it is suprising how it took so long considering the obvious scoring problems the crows had early in the season when we couldnt kick over 10 goals.

It is suprising it took so long considering last season we had sellar in the side as the second ruckmen when the crows reached there top form late last season.

Yes and we will miss the big fella hopefully not too long out.
Sellar must be kicking himself but what can you do.
Please don't just bring in Bock we need a second ruckman.

Yes, however you also need to consider the re-emergence of other players who had poor pre-season preparation/injuries finally finding fitness.

I for one am particularly happy with the inclusion of Brad Symes providing a link between half-back/midfield and half-forward.

Two rucks allows Tip to play forward most of the time. He is the target up forward that straightens us up and we have seen (most of) the u turns across Half Back go away.

Just heard a stat on AA that we average 70 odd points five weeks ago, in last five weeks we are over 106ppg, and in top five for i50 scoring conversions.

Good teams have two Rucks.

Structurally I definitely think Griff's inclusion has helped us, Tippett has now kicked 18 goals since Griff returned(as opposed to the 13 he had before hand) and is now looking like the force he promised to be at the beginning of the year. I really, really hope that if Griff misses next week, that we bring McKernan in to second ruck, Tippett must be left at FF.

Its all about the structure and I cant believe it took so long to realise Kurt had to be our stay home forward. Where would we be if if we'd played two rucks form game one.

We'd be right where we are now, due to effectively playing 21 men every game. Griffin came into the side as soon as his form justified it.

So, does SMacks form justify inclusion?

So, presumably Bock in, but who gets axed if McKernan comes in too? Stevens was the board call last week.

And how would straight Bock in, Griff out affect the structure? Could Stevens play dedicated 2nd ruck?

Craigy did say in his press conference that he'd be very reluctant to mess with the structure that two ruckmen provides, then mentioned McKernan and Sellar. I'd really like to see McKernan tear the game apart today and put this decision beyond doubt because he's done enough in patches this season to justify an AFL call up.

Bock will probably come in for Davis, but I'd prefer that we drop Stevens. Stevens has been ok but Davis is nearly on par, if not better. His continued development is more important that Stevens' flexibility, which we don't even need any more with the way we've structured up with three genuine talls and resting ruckmen.

There is absolutely no way that Davis will be dropped. He embarassed Gumbleton last night and his 1-on-1 work was the best it has been all year.

Stevo won't be dropped, particularly after his stellar performance last night. Craig loves him and he would have to have an absolute shocker for him to be dropped.

The first obvious change is Griffin for Sellar if he is fit. If he's not, McKernan is the only choice left and Neil acknowledged this in the press conference. Neil rates Shaun highly so if Sellar can't train this week you can be virtually write Shaun's name down on the team sheet. Neil also mentioned that they don't want to move Kurt nor Stevo so this further solidifies the likelihood of Smack getting his first run of the year.

As for Bock, I can't really see who should come out for him. Heck, I don't even really want anyone to come out for him since he's the most likely of our players to leave for the Gold Coast you would think. But you would assume that Armstrong would be the one to make room, with Davis taking a BP or HBF and Bock moving to CHB. Neil is very pleased with Tony's performances of late though so who knows.

Can't do this, we'd be unnecessarily tall. Either Davis/Stevens come out, or we go with one ruckman. The other alternative is that Bock comes in for Griffin and we use Stevens as the back-up ruckman, I'd hate for us to go down this path though.

Based on all the reviews I've seen here on BigFooty - no, his form does not justify inclusion. It depends on whether they want to select in form players, or maintain the existing structure.

If structure is more important, then SMack plays in spite of insipid SANFL form. If form is more important, then it would probably be Bock who replaces Griffin.

Agree completely, two rucks makes us so more potent, allows flexibility and frees up Tippett. We were crying out for this, I was struggling as to why this didn't happen earlier but it has so maintain the structure.
If Griffin is out then there is no reason on earth not to play McKernan, included in this equation is his SANFL form.
Davis wasn't tearing up the SANFL nor was Armstrong or Sloane...all were serviceable but not demonstrating that they had to be picked.
Give them a go where the skills improve markedly and they can back their own pure football talent and we've all witnessed the results.
McKernan is very talented and a ruckman.

Keep the structure, two rucks...."When your on a good thing...stick to it!"

As I posted previously, Griffin in means there is less pressure on Tippett's knee tendonitis playing in ruck. In addition, Tippett is a much better FF than a ruck.

McKernan's form doesn't justify inclusion in a team already pressed with talls. But I think we really need to give him a run at some point if we can afford it.

Bock will probably come in for Davis

FALSE

No way Davis is getting dropped... no way no how na ah!

As for Griff replacement Smack looks good on AFC this week... not sure about his ruck work but he really attacks the ball for a good contested mark around the ground, is confident with his disposal and was good for about 15 disposals last week. He just doesn't look a ruckman size... but might be a good matchup for Natinui.
