Well I'm just back in Sydney from Melbourne.

My son (8) had his first day at the 'G and had an absolute ball.

However the problem is that it was stupidly expensive. I waited for the Public allocation because I had my parents coming as well. However, for whatever reason the Ticktek website wouldn't process my order. I ended up having to take the Lou Richards lounge package (which was great, but...) because I'd already paid for the flights and booked the hotel.

So if I'm going to convince the wife to do it again, it has to be on a budget. Can I get member tickets earlier that the public offering with additional non-members? Will next year's game being hosted by Essendon complicate things?

What about cheap accommodation? I'd like to give my wife a reasonable number. She loves Melbourne and may be along for the trip next year as well, so it also has to be wife-acceptable.

Well pretty much being a Essendon home game will make it harder! 50,000 Essendon members pretty much get first prefence unless you take out a 17 home and away reserve seat package!

You will more like get general admission seats probably on the too deck of the Olympic stand or ponsford stand!

For cheap accommodation the City Square Motel in Swanston Street isn't too badly priced.

As far as ticketing did you try going into an outlet? I sometimes find if you go to an outlet and talk to a person they can help you out a little more than the computer will when you have a slightly more complicated ticket requirement.

a few ideas, this is my routine when i drive down from wodonga anytime i get the chance

Get the missus to buy you the ANZAC dayticket for xmas/birthday on a 3 game membership card which guarantees you a a seat, no need for any ticktek/master crap. Once she has bought that for you,you can lock in cheaper earlier flights. Make it a yearly ritual with the boy.Go to the dawn service with the lad as well. One thing im not sure on though is if the club will have that available next year if its essendons home game, should know by October though when membership deals are brought out

Stay at the parkview on st Kilda road, a Short tram ride to Fed square then walk to the G with your boy. Its $150 a night for twinshare but that includes a awesome buffet breakfast for 2. on the way home stop at the westpac centre for a few beers and show the boy around

feel your pain though, it always expensive being a interstate fan
