Just got an email from the RFC saying that I haven't attended a match this year.:eek:

Now, madtugger, don't worry... I've been to every match in Melbourne. However, I think with an AFL membership perhaps it's put it out of wack a bit? Not sure. Perhaps Stig can confirm.

What this probably does too, is it puts the attendance out of wack for each week too. *faints*.

Yeah AFL member so it's obviosuly something to do with that.

What I don't get is that the club worked out that I went to both the Brisbane/Fremantle matches a few months back cos I was entered in to the comp to win a trip to the Darwin game..

Yeah if you got this and you have attended matches, it would be an AFL member issue.

This is (supposed to be) for RFC members who have purchased memberships directly through us and not swiped their membership card through the barriers on match day.

i.e: I got an email, as I use my staff card to swipe in and not my club membership.

I think these are a very poor PR exercise from the club bordering on the diabolical - Why?

Because

1) what happens if someone is sick and cant get to games, they buy a membership because they love the club but still get the email. What has this member done wrong? Hasnt he paid his or her dues? Hasnt this member dug deep probably under difficult circumstances to help the club?
Why does the club want to send this member that email? I thinks it poor, very poor from the club.

2) what happens if that same person or someone else has paid for their membership, made a decent contribution to the Tiger Fund and bought some merchandise? Why is this person made to feel bad because they are unable to attend games.

IMHO people have a reason for not going to games. What does the club think is going on - that people fork out their money for no reason at all. These people IMHO are people who love the footy club deeply, they have their reasons for not attending games and the RFC should send out an apology. They wont do it because they dont understand.

PS- I have a family member in this situation and to be honest that person thinks that that particular email was just terrible. RFC should be better than that - better still they need to start understanding why people become members, why others do not and why some others buy merchandise and all the rest. In the end, we are Richmond and no Richmond supporter should be made to feel bad by the club.

I agree.... infact I reckon it will discourage some people getting memberships next year or instead they will get the 3 game membership...

I got the same email and myself and my fiancee have been to every game in Melbourne! I emailed them back and they said it was an MCC issue - whatever that means?!?

The Richmond membership and PR team as a genereal rule do a fantastic job but they could definitely have worded this one better.

It's an "IT" problem.

Your cards from RFC and AFL have unique identifiers. They aren't linked except by name and name means nothing to the card readers.

AFL club support members with a Reserved seat get a full RFC membership card in the mail. You can actually use that card to get into the game . Infact I'm the opposite to a number of people here in that I'm yet to use my AFL membership card to get into a game. I have young kids with RFC memberships and I don't want to be going in a different gate to them.

I'm an MCC Member and have been to every game at the G. I got the same email, responded and received an appropriate explanation that MCC and AFL memberships are not cross referenced to the Richmond Membership in the Richmond records.

Fair enough, something for them to sort out now. No sleep lost on my part.

Now here is something I am actually 'expert' in (although clearly I know nothing of the RFC member database).

That they're not linked is poor, but can easily happen.

I'd suspect however that, as MCC/AFL members get a different type of membership, that there is a field that records this information ( member type), and thus the problem should have been avoidable. As such, I'd suspect that the database query that generated the list was poorly constructed, meaning that, ultimately, it was human error.

That said, I doubt the RFC has/needs specialists on it's payroll to work on databases, and I've seen enough mistakes from people who do this stuff all day, every day, to judge them too harshly.

Foxtel IQ has a little detector that informs the club if the live coverage being played on your television.

You guys have been caught out. Just admit it.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there...The email was obviously sent my madtiger.

These people might have been there, but they just weren't being loud enough!

Lift your game, and your voice, and the club wont hassle you!
