If your looking to stir things up ningbag dont worry about us. Look after your own team.

But if it's a serious comment your after then here it is.

Everyone in the media had us in the bottom three before last season. Thats fine with us as we liked the idea of being the underdog because it meant that other teams would under estimate us and not take us too seriously. Combined with lack of infuries and our fitness and skill level, you would have to say it worked.

THe majority of us here on the Adelaide board predicted anywhere between 6th and 12th. Never dreaming of our great run would come to anything.
Never did we complain.
Then again anyone living in Melbourne has no idea what goes on past Deer Park anyway.;) :p

Of course we are over rated.

Last year we were supposed to finish last & this year, with virtualy the same side, short our best ruckman & with our best players 29-30 years old we are supposed to be premiership favourites.

It don't add up.

"Ningbag"?? That's a new one (unfortunately the last sentence isn't).

What possibly could I be stirring up?

I don't live in Melbourne - and I bet I know a damn sight more about Adelaide than most east of Deer Park.

Yes indeed.

I'm not sure which I prefer.

The Crows are certainly being over-rated for this week's game, without a doubt. Freo coming off a good win, playing at home. Adelaide with six first-choice (and another two or three backup) players on the injury list, coming off a close go at Carrara, travelling to Subiaco to make their third road trip in just four rounds.

Yet ... many are still tipping Adelaide this week! I can hear the negative comments even now, should the Crows lose this week.

Well, all I can say is that at least it is different from being totally dismissed as a contender, which is what we got last year.

That Robertson mark was a mark as he held it long enough IMHO.

And the Roo goal was definetly touched. No question there just as Bruce's goal was rightly a behind as the ball touched the post when he was bringing it up to kick it.

To be honset, the Hentschel touch was as dodgy as they come and from the comfort of my lounge room and from the inconclusive footage, I would say it probably was over the line.

The problem I have with Robertson's mark is what he did in order to get that high. Hands on Bassett's sholder and then his head - so for me it should never had been paid a mark due to the infringements prior to taking it.

No probs with Roo or Bruce's decisions and I can't believe what is being said about Davey's one. The tv footage is from an angle each time so we can't make a judgement but the umpire is in the perfect position and she does not hesitate on the call at all.

No

When our full list is out on the field we're one of the strongest contenders around. People rate our strongest list. You inject a fully fit Jason Torney, Nathan Bock, Scott Welsh, Martin Mattner and Ben Hudson into the team.

Add to that moving Mark Ricciuto back into the centre and Kenny Mac back up to the forward line and our lineup looks unbelievably strong and balanced all over the ground IMO.

Thing is you're never going to have a 100% fully fit starting lineup, it's just that the injuries we've sustained thus far have been to key players.

We're alright :D :thumbsu:

I can't help but feel that ATM we are over-rated by the media and supporters as well. Even Michaelangelo Rucci believes sun is shining out of our behinds (possibly so he can get the boots in when we don't reach his lofy expectations). Sure we have the potential to be a very good side but we are not that side at the moment. I know injuries are playing a big part in that but we can't use that as an excuse because every team gets their fair share.

Now many will say that last year we were the hunters and now we are hunted but I honestly don't buy that phylosophy. So does the season now go for 5 weeks in order for that excuse to be true? The regular season goes for 22 rounds and I just can't believe that opposition doesn't do their homework on you for the entire season. I just can't and won't buy that.

This year most of us expected to be not as dominant as last year and some of us like me believed that we will start slow and build our momentum as the year goes on much like we did in 2005. However, there are some things that is just not Adelaide. We have always had a lot of pride in our midfield. We have always had that to rely on and more often than not we will win that battle even in our leanest of years.

Nowdays, thats not the case. We are not getting on top in the midfield. We are breaking even at best. I think there are reasons to this like Roo playing as a forward and Huddo's injury but we have known about these things for a while now. Late last season Craig said that Roo will see more time in the forward line and less in the midfield so we can push younger people through there. Granted Roo is spending much more time as a forward than we originally planned but it still doesn't excuse the fact that we are not winning the midfield battle these days. We still have Edwards, Goodwin, McLeod and Thompson playing major minutes there so we should still be bloody good in there BUT for some reason we are not.

Our midfielders are not as desperate as they were last year. We are not winning as much hard ball as we did last year and we are not tackling anywhere near as well or as often as we did last year. These are the funamental things that are a feature of every premiership contender. Brisbane in their prime were the best most fierce tackling team in the comp. We were excellent at it last year but this year its gone out the window. We have not beaten our opponent in tackles once this year. The closest we got was yesterday where each side had the same number of tackles

Are out players believing the hype and are we in fact over-rated this year?

I don't think we're over-rated.

Our best footy under Craig is spectacular - think the second half of the showdown final; think Essendon or Western Bulldogs at Footy Park; think the last 3 quarters of the St Kilda minor round game last year - but in between we tend to grind a lot of wins as well. Kangaroos at Footy Park, Hawthorn away for example from last year.

Sunday's game was another grind - 20 of 29 goals with the wind, ugly conditions that led to skill errors even from the best players. We got through it.

We're ranked 5th for clearances, 1st in hitouts, 4th in 1st possessions - no need to hit the midfield panic button just yet.

According to pro-stats, we're 14th in the league in tackles - but according to the same site, we were 11th last year, and the table was headed by Brisbane, Carlton and the Bulldogs, none of whom featured in the finals. Maybe tackles (as a statistic) are overrated?

Our intensity seems a bit down, but then again we've come across Collingwood (where the trend of the game was uncontested possession) and the Dees (who prefer an open style of game to a close in one) so far in our travels.

You could argue that a high tackle count indicates that you're constantly chasing the opponent who has the ball. If your opponent has more of the ball than you do, more often than not you're not winning the game.

Yes you could and you would be right

Yes, over-rated compared to how we are currently playing. Our best is alot better than this and will come :thumbsu:

Why are we down?

Injuries to key structurals players - especially in fwd line means Perrie and Trent arent playing to potential.

Roo out of midfield and Thommo off the boil compared to last yr means our midfield aint as good

Rutten - down on last year

Also mate weve had a very hard draw. 0ur first 5-6 wks are as tough as anyone will face all year

Honestly people.. why is it someone makes a leading comment.. and we have to get SO defensive. It was a question reasonably asked, 'weren't we complaining about being under rated last year?'. I don't think there was any malice in it and then some of us on this board tee off. It bemuses me everytime people start to make attacks or get so defensive on these boards.
