pick 9 in the draft we gave up for Tarrant.

Its wierd, every coach confirms you bring a running team to Subi, yet we are determined to trade for key position players. The first coach to identify how to win at Subi will take us a long way.

i don't think many people though the tarrant trade was a good one... but its a done deal now, no point crying about it.

Harvey hasn't made any silly moves yet (Palmer and Mayne are excellent pick ups)

Pace this pace that blah blah blah. We won at Subi without a running team 2 years ago, its got nothing to do with pace, its to do with disposal. Ffs, If you want to look at how pace is good, look at Essendon. Belted with one of the faster teams.

You're right Bradesmaen. We lost last week because we had about 18 guys turn up with zero interest in the game. We lost to Hawthorn and Collingwood because we make too many unforced errors. We are our own worst enemy. Hard to believe as it may be, we do actually have some talented players. If Harvs can get them (or a reasonable number of them) playing to their abiiity, we can match every team in this competition.

As for Armitage, get over it. We can't draft everyone and who's hindsight isn't 20/20? We need to look forward for a change, rather than ruing every little mistake we've made for the last 14 years.

It's unfair referring to it as the Tarrant deal, its not Chris's fault that the 3 parts that we gave away have shown more for their respective clubs than Tarrant has. It should be known as the Connolly-Schwab deal.

err wasn't it pick 8 we coughed up, for Ben Reid?

Yeah. We had pick 8 in our possession after getting it from Richmond for Polak and pick 13. I think the point rgauci is trying to make is that we had pick 8, and Armitage was still available as he went at pick 9.

I thought Riemers was a better one to notice. Essendon got him with the pick that we gave them for Solly. Reimers looked dead set exactly what we need, young, pacey, skillful west australian.

Solly will always be a Chris Bond type for us. Glory days were elsewhere, helps to stop the bleeding with his experience when we are getting hammered, won't get us to the next level.

As for Harvey... Bradley and Johnson were mistakes. Taking a long shot in securing a Alwyn Davey type would have been much much better.

Im pretty sure CC had us winning nearly evey game at Subi and he is now gone.
People like you only want to pick at the negatives like the trades but dont want to give credit for the things that were done right, like near unbeatable record at Subi under CC for a year or 2

9/12 in 2002
10 or 11/12 in 2003
6/12 in 2004
7/12 in 2005
8 or 9/12 in 2006

I'm pretty sure, no I'm certain, that you're wrong.

We were near unbeatable at Subi for one season five years ago then got smashed at Subi in the game that really mattered. Connolly will be remembered for mediocrity, home and away.

I'm less upset about missing this guy in the draft after watching our team today. Palmer, Hinkley, Ibbotson were great to watch. Their run and carry and pressure skills were great. Ibbo and Hinkley still making the odd mistake, but Palmer is a gem.

Can't wait for our new look midfield to have another preseason under their belt. O'Brien, Foster, Smith waiting in the wings. Definately things to look forward too.

Spot on.

Palmer makes the odd mistake too.. too many up and under kicks and his right footer straight infront of me when we needed to kick a quick goal was poor.

He could have made 10 more than he did and would have still been our best midfielder. And that's telling us something.

The downside of playing the kids is they make mistakes. If you want the young guys out there, you've got to accept that they are going to stuff it up sometimes.

Given that most of our senior players make monumental errors regularly, the occasional error when he's completely exhausted is really not that unacceptable from Palmer. If he hadn't been out there today, it probably would have been a similar margin to last week.

Excellent post.
