No. They really can't because people are flogs. That 50 was a joke, I'm all for supporting the umps but surely a player can talk to the umpires or question a free if they're being respectful
The umps decision is final whether or not it's a mistake.

Hawkins the “most infringed” player in the AFL.
How many goals from frees in his career?

If umpires are able to “interpret” rules how they see fit, it is reasonable for players to ask how they are interpreting the rules when there is confusion. Otherwise how do players learn from their “mistakes” especially when they aren’t making any.No. They really can't because people are flogs.

and how many frees have you seen reversed after players bleated? I'll wait........If umpires are able to “interpret” rules how they see fit, it is reasonable for players to ask how they are interpreting the rules when there is confusion. Making umpires completely unaccountable is counterproductive, there needs to be a mechanism in place for an interpretation to be explained to the infringing team.
Make it respectful and in a controlled environment if needed, just don’t pretend every decision is right and/or beyond reproach.
The rule now is no backchatting umpires.
It’s very straightforward.
clarification on what? you think a player will play differently off the back of a brief pointless chat with an umpire? It is straight forward but a player should at least be able to respectfully ask for clarification on a call IMO. I realise it's a fine line, but things have gone too far the other way

A few, including an A grade Grand Final.and how many frees have you seen reversed after players bleated? I'll wait........

YES goddamitclarification on what? you think a player will play differently off the back of a brief pointless chat with an umpire?
You are assuming all players are treated equally, clearly they are not. Not by the umpires and not by the MRP and tribunal.I think the smart players will adjust if they know what they can and can't get away with.
an umpire had a discussion with a player and then said - yeah, you're right, I'll just reverse that?.........please........A few, including an A grade Grand Final.
Players and spectators appreciate that more than pretending a mistake was never made. Both sides thanked me after the game for being very fair, can’t ask for more than that.
yeah that might work..............playing checkers..........I think the smart players will adjust if they know what they can and can't get away with.
If the umpire explains why they think the behaviour is an issue, most players won’t have trouble adjusting. It is the lack of clarification that causes ongoing issues.clarification on what? you think a player will play differently off the back of a brief pointless chat with an umpire?
you mean not push in the back? or hold the ball? changes like that? You should be able to question their decision in a civilized non threating manner so you can change your style of play or learn how to stop doing what they are penalizing you for, It seemed like Mitchell just said "what was that for " with his arms out in a non threating manner if that is what the 50m was for the game is in trouble and has gone way too far in protecting the umpires.
No. It's not the players job to review umpiring decisions. If umpires are able to “interpret” rules how they see fit, it is reasonable for players to ask how they are interpreting the rules when there is confusion. I know it is hard for you to understand people can admit they made a mistake and apologise, it does happen.an umpire had a discussion with a player and then said - yeah, you're right, I'll just reverse that?.........please........
adjust what? they know the rules - you're making out like they've all changed all of a sudden - supporters........strange things.........If the umpire explains why they think the behaviour is an issue, most players won’t have trouble adjusting.
