I did ponder this as I was posting. While no-one can say what would have happened in another 12 months at Carlton I have a suspicion he would have continued on as he had previously and got onto the park for his 11-12 games. My suspicion is we don't manage players (injury-wise) as well as some clubs. It just seems we have an ongoing injury list greater than other clubs (I maybe wrong here but just my impression).
Did you notice the muffin top under the jumper? The key has been not training as hard.

Which part is not true? The dinner invite or Malthouse's rant on 5aa.

You're a little hysterical. Mick made one of two mistakes! We finished 18th this year and Mick's coaching played a significant part in this. If only he had made one or two mistakes.

Malthouse brought in a new era of professionalism and discipline to the playing group, and getting rid of those players who didn't respect their teammates, the fans or Mick's authority as coach. (Duigan and Laidler were moved on for not respecting the coach)

For too long now, the players have run this asylum, and if winning a spoon is the price we have to pay to ensure a much more professional and disciplined playing group, than its worth it

Trouble is Malthouse " new era" was a blast from the 70's my way or the highway approach that just does not work in leadership these days.

Jarrod won't be the last bloke for his wife/partner to have a say on where they should play or how much to ask for. If I was a partner of a player and thought they should ask for a bit more or a longer contract I would say something.

Anyhoo onto the second week of finals and hopefully the two matches will be a a tight contest.

Mick did bring something akin to an asylum. It's called bedlam. Chris Judd had a more positive effect on the playing group with his professionalism and discipline. Mick was a one trick pony who dragged the life out of the playing and we see the results of his time right here, right now.

I agree broadly, but the fact that he insisted effective and reliable backmen also be able to swing forward indicates that he was losing the plot. Effective zoning defense has slingshotted the Weagles into a probable GF this year, but MM couldn't get past his insistence on fast, 1 v 1 defenders. The game moved on and left him behind, and his legacy at the club would have been more positive if he practiced some of the modern professionalism he so demanded from the playing group.

A big issue was that MM demanded respect, he didn't command it.
You would think a 3-time premiership coach (including one premiership at a club that has consistently invented new ways of losing GFs) would command respect, but then our players also let down a Carlton champion, so it is no surprise they wouldn't respect someone that knew the key to winning premierships. Mind you they absolutely loved the caretaker coach who was happy for them to play the unaccountable football which suits them best.

I just hope our players don't start cracking it when Bolton lays down the law about the type of football the club needs to play to be successful again.

Wasn't it because he didn't want to be part of a rebuild and North offered a two year contract.
I thought we didn't offer him the same 2 year contract, ours was more conditional on him playing a certain number of games this year.

Pretty sure it was only a 1 year deal, with maybe an option for a 2nd.
