Agree. Root has morphed from a traditional stonewaller to a so called bazballer, but unlike some in this England team he has the ability to revert back to a patient Joe Root if game situation warrants it. Betting his career average has skyrocketed as a result of this ECB batting policy. You gonna finally post a ton here Joe.
He’s averaged 58 since the start of bazball, 14 hundreds in 41 matches and striking at 67 vs a career SR of 57

I am seeing a greenish tinge. But where it goes from here to Friday depends on Perth weather which looks very un Perth weather with days two to five in low 20s, hardly baking heat.
I can see both teams winning the toss and bowling first and the poms back themselves to chase ...bit of rain about before the test starts and cool cloudy conditions ..reckon it will swing a bit BGman..

We should go with the 3 frontline quicks Starc boland and Doggett...with Lyon..and Greenie providing the backup

I watched Doggett in the shield against WA when he came back form his hammie injury and he looked good. His first spell was rusty but he worked himself in to the game....has a nice outswinger and a quicker bouncer...reckon he will go okay

Reckon Atkinson is their best line/length man over Stokes who has a habit of gifting a four most overs. Have seen very little of Carse yet also looks an accurate seamer. I dont think they will go with both Wood and Archer, too unpredictable.
Thats the issue with the poms will they go wood archer atkinson and carse or tongue ??? along with stokes ?? thats 5 quick medium options .....will be interesting to see there over rate and with Stokes look at me captaincy they most likely will struggle to get through the overs

Haven’t seen a lot of Atkinson but yeah. Think they may go the two big quicks if fit. Carse isn’t he more in between the two? Wicketaker.

They'll go four seamers plus Stokes/Root. I think the percentage play is to have one of Archer or Wood play as you suggest. Playing both of them i see more like "putting all your eggs in one basket" as opposed to "pushing in all your chips"...hopefully that distinction makes sense :tearsofjoy:

Given Wood has had the scare, I'd play Archer in Perth. I'd also be telling Archer to rough Smith up. Could be series defining if he gets in Smith's head and the Perth track is the place for it.

Perth:
Archer, Atkinson, Carse is solid.
Given the weather in the lead up I reckon Tongue probably gets the nod over Potts.

I've seen Jacks in quite a few teams as the 4th seam option. Seems fraught with danger to me. You need 20 wickets to win a test match.

Pitch looks like it will dry out and be very good for batting. Both sides will bat first if they win the toss, I am expecting pitch to crack day 3 and beyond and not much in it for the quicks.
Much dryer surface than last year, once they cut it back it will be a very good batting track, danger for the aussies by producing these types of pitches.
I would like a heap of water put into this pitch between now and friday but that is very unlikely.

Yeah the pitch looks like it'll be an awesome wicket...will do a bit day 1 for sure but not expecting it to break up too much tbh

If we have rolled out a road we are dumber than I can think, actually I can see CA being that dumb so you are probably right.

Curator says it will be a fair contest pitch for batting and bowling and not favored to suit the Poms form of batting. With some warm weather leading into Test start, as you say, he'll probably water it some to keep the green tinge. and with the coolish weather it prob wont crack. You guys recall some past WACA decks and their wide cracks from baking under a seering Perth sun that became a minefield to bat on.

Thank goodness, if we prepare roads in ANY test we are stupid. It's just what the Poms want to charge Boland etc and whack him. Make the ball move a bit for him. I mean I still expect Root and Stokes to bat really well they are bats who can adjust well

17 wickets on day 1 last year. Surely we won't have a repeat of that level of carnage?

You seen our batting lineup? Don't count your chickens

Albo what are you doing putting Konstas firstly, in the team and then in the spotlite. He needs to be keeping a low profile and thinking about shield cricket and what it was that earned him a premature Test debut. Old Father Time Pete Siddle gets a gig too while Charlie Anderson seems to be flavor of the month.

I needed to see whether it was 2002 again

Why on the blue moon are we trundling out Siddle from the retirement village? Why is Konstas being picked again? Just you watch him slap a ton and then the commentary after it will be 'why isn't he playing in the test' and it won't stop. Just what he doesn't need more pressure let the kid play Shield and grade cricket for a year.

Like he did in the corresponding game last year. I had forgotten he had done that.

Yep and what happened the talk of 'he must play'

Literally never want to see anyone fail, but seriously the worst thing for Sam would be doing that again

i am expecting this Perth pitch to be a very good pitch to bat on. I am with you this will play into the Poms hands but from what I looked at yesterday it looks like it will be a very strong batting wicket unless it is heavily watered from now to Friday which would be very much an unusual thing to do. Cricket board may have been involved again here??? But hoping it has plenty of life in it Friday and going into Saturday. But it just looks very dry to me.

I hope it's like last years, I really hate this dialogue that 'oh it must go 5 days'

No it doesn't a fantastic 4 day test where both sides are in the game is just as good. I would love getting back to 300-330 being a 'great score' batting first. I hope its watered like nothing before or at least don't shave it down

So will Doggett who has done his trade in Tassie. Weirdly Starc will find a way to annoy me on a green wicket I always feel he's better on 'good' wickets myself.
I think Starc is the sort of bowler where the wicket doesn’t matter as much. As such he can look great on a benign wicket, but is going to gain as much from a spicy one. So his figures will remain fairly similar.

Test thread this way.

England last test win in aus was in 2011
I think they will win a test in this series the teams are too close and it would be beyond disappointing if the series is done after Adelaide.

Just hoping rain doesn't interfere in one of the matches..... Unless we need it to save a match ala Manchester
