Why isnt Connolly picking Collard as hes kicked 17 goals in his 7 WAFL matches this year and Fremantle needs players that can kick goals .

1,0,3,1,4,4,4...He needs a go at the TOP level .

Couldn't hurt getting the chance to play alongside the Wiz tonight either.

I think they Souths have Jeff earmarked for a role further up the ground... Good luck to the Demons trying to curb a Souths forward line that has Murphy as the main target, with Collard, Farmer and Sampi rotating through there. :thumbsu:

But no doubt Jeffrey - in his role as "the main brother" at the club - will have plenty to say to young Clayton as part of his tuition.

The Wizard and his Apprentice. ;)

I guess we are going to get the question of how they will 'gel' together answered sooner rather than later - not quite the stage I'd like to see them on, but hopefully they go well together and are both in the purple before long.

Collard will almost certainy get a crack in the next few rounds. His form demands it.
We've all got that feeling that this kid is going to be a long term player for the Purple Horde.

Well done to the selection comittee leaving Collard in the WAFL. he clearly ran out of steam, collecting 2 or 3 possessions in the second half. No point playing him at AFL level until he is well and truly ready for it.

Based upon that standard, isn't there are a heap of guys in the senior side that shouldn't be playing for Freo this week?

He still kicked his quota of 2 goals...

BOG in the first half, barely sighted in the second half. I think he had 17 possessions to half time.

I'd like to see him debut in a fortnight against the saints.

Cant quite work out the logic behind leaving this guy in the WAFL.

The biggest problem with our side from what I can see other than the lack of pace in the middle is no small forward.
Much of our turn around last year was due to Farmer's brilliance, I see the logic in suspending him and dont want it reduced.
But surely with Collard's strong form and our dier need for someone up there its time to give the kid a go.

Personally I can't think of a better forward line for a small forward considering the amount of opportunity your going to get.

He will get injured soon just wait and see.
Just like Ryley Dunn, they waited a week to long before they brought him in and he got injured before he got the chance.

Or the fact that the kid is still young and they don't believe physically he is up to the AFL yet after and interrupted pre-season.

Didnt stop Port with Nathan Krakour (sp) and look how that has turned out so far.

It's not that he's too skinny, the problem is that he isn't fit enough yet. Collard didn't train all summer, and the fact that he ran out of puff in the second half on Friday night indicates that the match committee made the correct decision. South don't have a game next weekend so hopefully Collard has a couple of big weeks on the track and is deemed fit enough to take on the saints. I prefer to see local boys debut at home.

I dont agree with the "Not physically up ready for AFL" part.
Our kids are playing in WAFL against grown men, there are some monsters running around in that competition.
If your ready for WAFL your ready for AFL.

The notion I think is used more for describing the VFL "school boy" league. I may be wrong about this but I always thought they had a different league for the young guys where as our potential drafties just got thrown into the WAFL.

Victorian kids play TAC cup, which is similar to wafl colts. They aren't alligned with a VFL side.

Did you see him completly run out of legs on Friday night?

ah. i think you're missing the point here, sabre. The AFL is alot quicker than the WAFL. So players have to run more, react quicker, and sprint faster.

This is about fitness, not size. Yes there may be monsters in the WAFL, but they are lumbering ones.

When Collard can run out a game, he'll be in the side. Otherwise when he is selected, he'll be warming the bench and used in bursts, and everyone will complain and ask why he isnt being given a proper go of extended football.

and we dont want that, do we?
