Assistant Coaches

Not sure if others picked up on it in a recent Ross interview but he mentioned wanting to streamline the coaching dept not expand it. Had me thinking we might not replace Stone but rather just shuffle the deck chairs to fill the gap.

Yeah, he was interviewed on a tour of the new stadium. I read his comments the same way as you.

I can second antoni_grover and I saw Hodge having a coffee on George St. He's been here all weekend officially doing some public speaking but I think he's also talking to clubs about assistant coaching roles. His manager said last week that practically every club is sounding him out.

From a lifestyle perspective for a young family, hard to beat Perth, especially Freo.
Hopefully Guerra & Hale have pumped up the lifestyle of Perth. I think Sam Mitchell and his young family have been blown away with the life style here in Perth V Melb.

Streamlining the structure makes sense but regardless of what structure is in place, success will depend on the quality of the individuals in the structure. Unfortunately we don't seem to have much quality in our coaching team.

Very true. So Lyon wants to streamline structure currently he has Hale - forwards, Rock -Midfield, Prior- Backs with Webb,Guerra, Hayden as development coaches. Stone was stoppages coach so all i see is Rock probably picking up stoppages as well? What does Eastaugh do other than ruck coach?

Scham right on money mate the above lot are not very inspiring!!

Are we really getting our money's worth, best available talent wise? Complacency, long contracts have
set in.
Have a look at all the coaches in the past put under pressure by their club, Williams. Clarkson, Thompson,
Hardwick.
Even if hardwick fails, Caracella will take over the reins, our rebuild excuse will wear thin quickly.

No we are not.

Can we just double the $ Brisbane would be offering and get him to come here as a coach? If he's at all willing to move SNAP HIM UP.

"Although the Tigers duo have changed their stripes a few times, one thing hasn't changed: wherever they have plied their trade, success has generally followed them."

Can't really say the same about our coaching team. We've got 7 AFL flags amongst the whole coaching team but Hale and Guerra have 5 of those between the 2 of them. And all as players, our only AFL premiership as a coach comes from Ross as Assistant back in 2005.

We don't even have much premiership success in our coaching team in terms of premierships at the lower levels. Webb has a WAFL flag, Rock has a VAFA flag along with 2 in the schools comp in Melb and Prior coached EP colts to a flag. Eastaugh, Hale, Guerra and Hayden haven't been involved in a flag as a coach yet.

I think it's important and we desperately need to get some successful people into our system.

Get a good skills coach and this will improve the team and game plan immensely and make our assistants look top notch. Sort out the forward structures and we may even be good enough to have a crack.

I don't buy into the belief that only premiership players make good premiership coaches.

Hardwick was a laughing stock up until 6 months ago and now he is being hailed a genius. The Tiges have largely flown under the radar this year only hitting their straps in the last 6 weeks. Just watch next year when teams put more time into defeating them and the opinion of Hardwick will once again change (that is if he doesn't win today).

It's a fickle business.

Richmond have been pretty good all year, a massive turnaround from 2016. It seems that the change of assistant coaches, football manager has played a big part in that. And of course, credit does have to go to Hardwick.

Bloody hell. It's like he is building himself a fort where his generals would never question his right to be king. It's hitler all over again.
His development has stopped as a coach. For a guy that always prided himself on personal development. Has he lost the passion ??
